      dabmotha Subarus are super easy to work on you can work on pretty much anything on an n/a Subaru with basic hand tools also I have worked on Honda's and Subarus and the Subarus are typically easier tuning of a turbo Subaru is where the ej gets finicky

    • @zachjl96
      @zachjl96 6 років тому

      dabmotha but that doesn't make them hard to work on Subarus are still easy cars to work on and can usually do anything with basic tools and plenty of ppl turbo na subies with the stock ecu and are just fine around 8-10 psi although obd2 gc chassis na ecu's are a less willing to run a turbo well but 02 up na ecu's adapt a little better so he really should be fine as long as he doesn't run to much boost below 10 psi and he should be okay

    • @anthonyi2221

      @dabmotha you can run up 5-7 psi w/o a tune on a na/t subaru. N/a subaru timing is pretty aggressive

    Hi, quick suggestion. I have a TD04L on an EJ251 with a 5psi kinugawa gate, due to the small turbo on a larger engine running small boost it has to bypass a LOT of gas to control the boost, which the stock internal gate just can't do. I was hitting 12psi, and even hit 8 psi with the actuator arm disconnected from the flapper!
    Enlarging the wastegate port from 24mm to 29mm and smoothing out the 90 degree bend in the WG port made boost absolutely rock solid within about 1/50th of a psi @ 4.85psi.
    Also I think the stalling is due to your air flow meter accounting for all the air, but when the BOV opens it acts like an air leak, causing a momentary super rich condition, which causes the stall.
    Great work, happy that there are others crazy people doing the same mods as me.

    You are leaning out the engine... adjust the amount of fuel ....you definitely need a tune!

    • @Ceba551
      @Ceba551 5 років тому +13

      If he keeps it at around 5 psi he's only leaning out the engine until adaptive fueling learns the bias through the O2S (That's the whole point of the inner and outer loop fuel controller... all fuel injected engines employ some variation of this strategy). What's actually happening is that he altered the sound of his vehicle and managed to halve the resale value... But yeah, with a tune (he will need some kind of type of engine management capability) he should be able to dial up the amount of fuel the engine uses to achieve stoichiometry at any given speed/ density. He will prob want larger injectors so that the limit for "turning up the boost" isn't his stock injector duty cycle (flow capacity). I suppose the limit would be blowing up the fragile old internals of the motor at that point.

    I played the same game with my 07 Legacy. Fuel. Fuel was the bane of my existence for so long. The factory Ecu wanted to feed too much fuel in and it would "stutter" from taking in too much fuel. Maybe not your problem but from someone that has been there, it was mine. Lucy the legacy is a happy camper and a daily driver now with 200,746 on the original engine. Lightly modified before the Borg Warner K03 found a new home.

  • @Firefrei
    @Firefrei 2 роки тому

    I like that you are of the brave people to put a turbo on a n/a subaru. I have a '06 legacy and i know that turboing it isn't worth it because for the amount of money it would take me to put a turbo on, i can just the gt version and go up from there. I say turboing a n/a ej series engine isn't quite worth it is because the engine isn't made to make enough boost to make the conversion worth it especially with my car because i would need to raise the engine or delete part of the frame to make room for an uppipe and attach downpipe to stock exhaust, get a stronger driveshaft and maybe transmission, install oil and cooling parts for turbo, new ecu because my stock ecu can't compensate for adding a turbo and can do little to no tuning with stock ecu. so instead of doing all this and spending more money, i'll just get the gt version.

      @@riozz5201 Because if you run big boost without proper tuning detonation occurs. And then its only a mater of time before the piston comes apart or something just as catastrophic. I dont know what Suburu's compression ratio is so I cant really speak on it, but its generaly accepted that if you only put 4 to 5 psi to an engine, stock ECU's can sometimes handle it. If the stock fuel system can handle the extra load. Its all dependent on make, model, condition, yadda yadda yadda.
      Only this is youtube comments, so if its not done by the book or how their pappy did it back when they have to say you're an idiot.

    Cool cool cool, but you can hear from miles apart you're on 3 cylinders, and also, what does the turbo do? Add more air. How does the ECU know you're adding more air? MAF. Where is the turbo? After the MAF. So does it really need a tune? I guess maybe because of the different intake manifold, the MAF readings might not be as accurate, but other than that, maybe the ECU is a bit confused, but it has MAF and O2 sensors so I don't think there is too little fuel being injected...

    • @ssskinner28
      @ssskinner28 3 роки тому

      I also believe that the ECM of a turbo car wants to see a Wide Band O2 Sensor or AFR(air fuel ratio) O2 Sensor? The ECM for sure would need to know how much air is coming in for it to be even possible to get a good tune on it? I dont know I am just wondering because I have a 2006 Impreza OBS with a N/A 2.5 and everyone I have talked to told me to make it right just buy a wrx or Forester X they say it to ,uch work like all the wiring harnesses and all and Axles and Subframe. 😂😂😂😂these videos have me cringing so bad. But at the same time you are very inspiring to do all this by yourself. I have a 2007 2.5I inpreza (so essentially the same exact car) I honestly would love to connect with you and share info. I have an associates in Automotive so I'm very knowledgeable and I really kinda wanna learn from your mistakes if I can😂😂😂

    Have you had to swap the transmission yet I have a 07 Na wagon swapped to the ej205 just lost reverse in it now the trannys dumping gear oil when I drive it and burning it off the exhaust manifold I’m fbo now going to swap to wrx 5 speed was expecting the Na impreza 5 speed to go anyway but a 6 speed swap it’s like 3500$ to expensive for me rn

    U didn’t put a blowoff valve right?
    MAF sensors don’t play nice with it on NA subies(the older models prolly change for these models idk)
    So u have to either run bpv or rock the good ole turbo flutter 🤣
    As I stated in last video u need fuel pump, fmu if u decide to go to like 7 or 8 psi(shit will blow up but the fmu slows down the process). After those things you’ll be ok till u get a ecu and tune then you’ll be great 👍🏾
    Don’t rush the process bro even if u want to push out vids

    Jesus this thing is going to blow up very soon, would be running so lean... even my turbo motor runs lean with basic bolt ons, you need a tune.

      1000 miles later and it still hasn't blown up, yeah it leans out if I give it hell but I'm just easy on it. I bought new injectors and I'm learning how to tune so stay tuned for that video man!

      @@GoldGuyRides Excellent, I would recommend EcuTek as a tuning software for stock ECU's, I'm expecting my Forester to pump out around 190KW ATW with a VF35 and the EcuTek tune.
