That is the same engine as mine (04) I had what i thought were carb problems. I cleaned and rebuilt it more than once and never could get it to work right (rich). I checked the forums and found there was some kind of 'defect' in some of those carbs...i ordered a new one and wow what a difference! I few seasons later it started acting funny again...this time I had a small tear in the air intake boot...very hard to find but a new boot fixed her right up. good luck mate!
Yeah it is a hard thing to diagnose because it comes and goes so fast. At first I was thinking carb issue but after talking with the local Polaris dealer he thinks electrical. So I am hoping he has more experience with this than me and am going to try cdi and coil first. I will have the cdi tomorrow and will try that first.
I have thought about that but it is charging the battery when I test it. I can't test it when the problem happens because by the time I get the seat off the problem will stop. I should know more in a few days.
I have the 04 Ranger 500 6x6 , It ran great until it got warm then would slow down so I had the belt replaced along with a tune up and rebuilt the carb , ran good for a few then back to slow so replaced the primary clutch ran a lot better but after a few back to slow so rebuilt the secondary clutch and still is doing it. Any advice appreciated
If it runs good until it warms up you might have an engine problem. Have you done a compression check? Another thing that shows up when the machine gets warm is a bad fuel pump.
Did you ever figure this machine out. I have 02 500 HO and it's driving me nuts. It will start but not rev. I tried different things and it runs like new, put it back together and a couple weeks later it shits the bed again
My friend has a 2002 Series 11 that is cutting out and surging. On the carb there are two vacuum lines that go into one. The line is broken and I cant find where it should go. Do you remember?

My problem was the switch was bad. But thanks for the info. Maybe it will help others.

Hopefully the coil fixes it, but it looks like a carb issue. Probably need to replace the needle and seat because it sounds like its flooding on you.

Did you ever solve the issue . I saw a video on using a fuel wics 33040 filter to prevent flooding

I had a bad key switch. It was shorting out causing the machine to randomly cut out and even quit.

I think those two lines go to the intake air cleaner.
