Not sure if you still care for the answer but you simply gotta know the key scale you are working in and the key of the acapella. If they aren't the same, try to pitch it the same or change your key entirely.
Just do your research in terms of finding the key and tempo of that specific vocal and then pitch it up and/or stretch it to fit the melody...basically find a vocal that is in the same key as your melody!
