This is all fine and good to HEAR a great choir sing such a spiritual song but IT IS NOT WORSHIPPING GOD! The congregation LISTENED but did not participate in the WORSHIP, they were not singing songs with thanksgiving to their God and creator. THAT is what He wants to hear, songs of thanksgiving FROM THE HEARTS OF HIS CREATION to Him.

Mike Gross I understand your point......however worship is something deeply personal that causes an individual to respond in awe and wonder of their Creator God in numerous ways: you see patriarchs in the OT worship their Creator God thru their "OBEDIENCE", some built altars, others brought blemish free animals to be sacrificed, or built tabernacle or temples in worship, some simply washed Jesus' feet with their tears and dried His feet with their hair. Some in the New Testament have uttered mere statements of awe and wonder, such as: "My LORD and my God", "Lord, I believe help thou my unbelief", "Truly this man was the Son of God", "Remember me when you enter into Paradise." Scriptures in the Old Testament advise us to be very careful when we enter into the presence of a Holy God not to be quick to speak or utter rash vows. When one of the Great prophets was sent by God to a mountain to experience God, God was not in the Thunder, Lightning or powerful wind, but God was present in a "still small voice". A passage in Scripture, book of Psalms, states: "Be still and know that I am God." Jesus, in the New Testament said, "They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." Scriptures in the Old and New Testament emphatically state THAT our OBEDIENCE to the LORD GOD and His oracles, principles, precepts and commandments IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF WORSHIP!! Clapping, shouting, loud praises, big bucks in the offering plate, Loud Hallelujahs, Praise the Lord's, and Amens, or even tithes and offerings in the collection plate are a stench to God when we blatantly walk counter to His Word, have put other "god's before Him", or are holding unforgiveness, bitterness, or revenge in our hearts toward anyone. WORSHIP is truly unique and personal, tailor made for every individual, as far as their expression of adoration to God. It is not a one size fits all form of measurement to use to judge the thoughts and intents of men, women and children's hearts. The North Star of True Worship is Obedience to the laws of God from a humble heart washed and made clean by the blood of Jesus Christ. May we all like the Great prophet Samuel, in the Old Testament, when as a child heard his name called out by God and on the third time he replied as he was advised by his mentor Eli, "Speak LORD for the Servant heareth."

How do we know that the congregation did not participate? I saw several people stand up, looking joyful - is that not part of worship?
