007 SEVENTEEN LOCKS ONE DAY
Вставка

- Today's video is a little different, its a little fast and more music and less talking. I just wanted to convey how exhausting the locks were. It was a lovely day. Not looking forward to going down again though as there is thunder forecast that day. Normal style videos will return on Sunday.
Thanks for all the support.

I think by now you may well believe the name of your boat was very apt. Perseverance indeed
Good to see the canal in use. Myself and mostly my Son spent some time on the restoration of that canal mostly in the ASH vale cut. At that time is was no more that a stinking ditch and my Son when he came home needed washing down with a hose before we let him back into the house it was that bad. As to the way Nav., it was about that time I had a look at it and I thought it was in a bad way No Pun., It would seem they have spent some money on it for once.
So glad your done did his time getting washed off so we could use the canal! M
I really enjoy watching you travel and the scenery, but at 79 I don't want to do locks. Thank you for the ride.
Thanks for coming along
Finally catching-up on some of these early Vlogs! - It is a shame that this one ended-up a bit of a race through as the Deepcut flight holds a special place in my heart. Back in the 1970's my Dad learned Bricklaying (as a hobby) working on restoring some of the locks.
Another excellent video. Sure you even missed noting some at the start as you come off the wey navigation. I used to commute on my pushbike along part of it. That was hard enough and I didn't have to work locks.
I remember some of those Wey locks being really heavy.
Greetings from Michigan, USA. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
It's amazing that you managed to cope in the early days without George's help . It's easy for you these days with his navigation and organisational skills :-)
It’s amazing how he always knows where we’re going! M
@@MinimalList A natural helmsman ( helmsdog :-) ) .
You persevered!!!! Congrats!!
So, being very limited here on Vancouver Island as to what we can do I have been feeding my late life passion to overcome the cancellation of this years journey to the UK for more boating by catching up on various vloggers going back to the beginning. CC is up to date, Foxes Afloat took a couple of weeks to view all 103 since I found them, Jono seems to have moored up and gone off somewhere so I have picked up where I left you last on this vlog. This is going to take a while as I think I saw you at 278 up on the Chesterfield Canal and here I am at Bond (007🤣). So get ready for the stupid questions because I believe the get good answers and learning is part of this. We plan at age 76 if we cannot finish the K & A with our friends on the Wessex Rose (I pay big bucks for 3 meals and a bed to work the boat) this fall we will do than and the Warwickshire ring on our first hire next year and then, hopefully with continuing good health, do the 4 Counties and Llangollen in 2022. Ambious for a couple of wrinklies but it is way it is. So be gentle please! Be safe.
We’ll get to be gentle! Have fun catching up! It sounds like a good plan through 2022, knock wood there will be no more interesting times after this year! M
SO enjoy the bits that are uncut at the end.
Thank you!
Fun and fast moving. When the subject matter is locks, that's quite an achievement - I'll be watching again
great vids, did my first canal trip in April on the Avon ring, I'm hooked now and want a boat, met a lady who had a thing for the lock paddles(forgotten what it's called) that had a rachet, she said it made the work easier but you had to wind it more to do it, she said it was the best thing she's bought, looking forward to seeing more of your adventures and learn from your ways and mistakes,( hope there's not many), enjoy your new life, I'm jealous
Excellent Work! Probably can't get any more than that in one day, so its all down hill from here!
Seems exhausting! Appreciated the outtakes!
I wondered if anyone had found the outtakes
That's it Jo put your back into it lol.
That’s some locks .. wow
You guys are a hoot. It was a real pleasure meeting you at the Crick boat show. Hope you found the solar panels you wanted.
Cheers
Barry Nix lovely to meet you too! Thanks for saying hello! Still not sure what solar to go for but we will get there!
Excellent stuff!
👍
Nice vid - loving the outtakes 😂.Seems like you're finding your feet nicely - good on ya x
Thank you! I was wondering if anyone was actually watching till the end to see the secret outtakes! I could actually make a whole video of outtakes there are so many! 😂
lot of locks for one day, wait until you try the Kennet and Avon, locks and Swing Bridges oh what fun they are great video's hope to see lots more from you.,
Narrowboat Apostrophe yes! I think this is just the warm up for the K&A!
Great work, ,,,"Oh yeah what number we up to again",,,, lol, safe travels 😄✌️
Haha. We genuinely lost count. Silly thing is all the locks were numbered by the entrance so we just needed to look at that but we didn't notice till the last few!
he he,, such a relaxing way of life this narrowboat thing eh !!! at least it will keep you fit, another cracking video you guys
Mike Hatswell yeah, it makes me laugh when people on the tow path comment how idyllic it looks! They don't know the half of it. Not complaining though, it is pretty wonderful, I'm just not sure I would use the words idyllic or relaxing to describe it so far!
If your going to do this boating lark, you've got to use the correct jargon. The locks have gates. The ones that you go into when going up are the bottom gates and the ones with the cill are the top gates. The stretches of water between locks (on a canal, at least) are called pounds. When we bought our boat, we had to do 45 locks on the first day. They were, admittedly, narrow and not wide ones. I don't think anyone really knows what lock they're currently on, you just take it as it comes. It's easier that way. Good luck on your travels.
Mike Shipp haha thank you, good point. The thing is we do know most of the correct terminology, we are just not in the habit of using it yet. Will try harder! Haha
hey, ... jst found u guys so binging vlogs 1 thru 10 ... xcellent, thnx
Glad you're liking and welcome aboard! M.
Great vid and it doest matter what you call stuff lock gate , lock door paddles sluice it all makes for good watching well done on all those locks guys
Thank you!
why have I just found your channel!
Well we haven't been around that long! We've Been watching yours for a while though! :)
Thank good Video very interesting.
OK bro... I'm caught up and subscribed. Great videos! It looks like you guys are tired and it is probably more work and troubles than you though, but man... what a journey. Hi Jo!
First off, all credit goes to Jo for the videos, all I did was get Final Cut Pro on the Mac and set her loose.
Yeah, a wee bit physically harder than originally expected, though that's really just on the days when we are rushing due to either a limited length license or a specific goal. For the most part it's just beautiful.
Michael Morehouse can't wait till we can come visit. you have room in that thing for three more, right? :)
Steven Morehouse sure! Three little ones! ;-) Would be great to see you all over here.
Phew,, not sure I would be keen on that many locks, I was worn out just watching you two doing all the work.
I think that is why (in other vlogs) they do their best to bypass Birmingham, because theres about a million locks there.
+Rob M we have beaten this record now. Our new PB is 29 in day. Caen Hill on the K&A, managed 26 in two and a half hours!
wow a lot of work that day.
At least the weather is nice fer ya.
Wait till you get to Tardebigge, over 30 as I recall, close together so all must be done in one day, no stopping overnight until you're finished. Usually start early in the morning to get them all done before night. When we did it it was raining all day. Not the most pleasant day! We came across one couple that started at 5am!
So this was just the warm up then!
There's lots more fun waiting for you on the cut. Enjoy
LOL
I managed to do 24 locks in a day, lucky you had the sun we had pouring rain and wind and then realised the 25th was having work so got stuck for a week! we're going to try vlogging when we get our new boat but probably won't manage to film us doing the locks, they're exhausting 😂
Oh goodness! That sounds annoying and exhausting! Rain is forecast for our trip back down the Deepcut flight so that might be less fun. Good luck with the new boat and you should vlog it. People seem to love watching them and on top of that you will have them to watch back in years to come!
did you say your first names, I can't remember
Michael and Jo!

Subbed but i'm not a lover of all the annotations. Good luck on your journey.
Sombody sounds North-American ;).
A bit of moaning, just get on with IT, you're still " young " comparied to most boaters!
All I heard is we are still young and you this reason we really love your comment! :)
