Great interview with Mary! It is nice having her perspective from living there for six years and I love her appreciation of the people and customs of Mexico, which I believe mirrors yours.
It was a very easy conversation as you are correct, we do share so much in common with Mary regarding so much of the culture here in Mexico. Plus, we think, that the more that we give to the community, the more that we get back and that enriches everyone.
what a great choice!! This lady is very fascinating and has story that keeps me thinking about what ONE person could achieve given the right circumstances. I get the feeling that Mexico feeds her spirit in the Arts, in humanities, and really feeds her spirit overall. She doesn't mince words with her descriptions, she has a wonderful heart for the people. very thoughtful lady! Thank you, Gina and Mark,
We agree! Mary is a force unto herself. And you are correct that one can do a lot when one decides to eliminate the obstacles that we normally place in front of ourselves. Thanks Diana.
I love this video concept - interviewing an expat who has been living in Oaxaca. Mary has a great perspective on getting involved with the community in her daily life. And I love the work she does with animals as well!
It does help a lot that Mary is so insightful and immersed into the community, Cynthia. She was a lot of help for us in Oaxaca, especially with the kittens.
Hello Mary. Former Seattlelite here also, now living in Costa Rica. I do like living here, although I’m interested in other people’s stories of moving to other countries. Thanks so much for this informative interview. I can relate 100%. The main thing being, LEARN THE LANGUAGE. There is really no excuse not to. It opens up a whole New World, Plus, the anti-Alzheimer’s effect, which has been proven.
Great video. Realistic and practical video. Lots of great information and advice. Especially since we are looking at Oaxaca as a landing spot. Thank you!
Tenemos gente que nos importa en ambos lados de la frontera. Además, es importante escuchar más de lo que hablamos. Jaja, algunos dicen que hacerlo de esa manera nos hace más inteligentes.
I have lived in Mexico for 5 years. I notice that EVERYONE now walks down the street looking at their phones which wasn't true when I arrived. This is happening all over the world. I know we should honor the culture that was here when we arrived. Of course that wasn't true when the Spanish invaded Mexico or the Europeans invaded the US.
So very true world wide. Nobody takes the time to get their nose out of their phones. It is problematic in several ways, first, they don't look where they are going, and two most believe that the secrets to life are held on that device. LOL
I moved to the mountains six hours east of Oaxaca City. Small pueblo where my husband grew up. I brought collars, leashes, and harnesses for a rescue and have yet to be able to donate them.
Oh I wish I could talk to Mary so bad. I’d love to know how she got her cats there. This is my one big barrier of moving to Mexico is traveling alone as a female with my 2 cats. Did Mary have a companion 6 yrs ago that helped with her move? Did she drive or fly her cats there? I’m convinced I want to move but I’m so worried doing it alone just the driving part and the border with my cats. I wonder if I should hire a companion to drive across the border with then pay for them to fly back once I reach my destination. Wonder if there is such a service.
I drove down with my dog and had no problem at the border. Yes there are people that will meet you at the border and drive you down. There are also pet transportation services.
Latino culture, i don't know what's that. Mexico has more than 67 dialects and they represent different ethnic groups. Every state in Mexico has a different culture depending on the different ethnic groups that form that state. It's difficult to believe that everyone south of the US-MX border has one culture.
It doesn't, and it shouldn't. She is stressing to viewers that anyone who wants to live in Mexico needs to adapt to Mexico and not bring those attitudes with them.
I hope you guys can strongly consider Canada instead of México, think about it, the USA and Canada share a lot more than any of those countries with México, especially language, furthermore, the mentality, if you decide to live in Canada, your presence is harmless, but in México, your differences with our rich culture ruin everything, we the Mexicans, we are having a consensus all over the country that we are fed up, we are demanding to our lawmakers to tax foreign people and harden laws to stop your migration. Oaxaca is one of our cultural reservoirs, and the native people from there are making a movement to demand the preservation of their roots and rights in front of you, people only thinking about climate and cheaper stuff, rather than assimilating your way of life to the indigenous people.
We are already Temporary Residents of Mexico. Maybe it did not come through correctly, but we love the Mexican way of life. We have no desire to change anything about this fabulous lifestyle. We try very hard to assimilate with the local culture and so far, in our two years in Mexico, we have made a lot of friends with people here. We hope that they preserve all of what makes this country magical. Thanks for watching.
@@avemaria3673 It has a lot of validity for some people. There are some that want the same lifestyle, and that Canada would be a good choice. We really like the lifestyle here in Mexico and embrace the wonderful culture here. That I think is the difference. If you want to change, come to Mexico, if not, go north. Thanks
I could say that conversely maybe you should not watch videos about people that are trying to assimilate into this wonderful culture. We are trying to show the beauty of the lifestyle that is in this wonderful country. Do we need to know more? Yes, that is what we are documenting as we travel through Mexico. Thanks for watching, but if we aren't your cup of tea, please try other channels.

@@GringosRUsWe look forward to meeting her someday!

I enjoy very much this interview, and learn from watching it. Thank YOU!
Our pleasure! Glad that you enjoyed it Wilfredo.

Glad you enjoyed it!

You could do a lot worse Sammy. It was a great time there in Oaxaca.
Thank you for you honest feedback
Any time! Glad that you found it helpful.
Outstanding folks!!!
Thanks Winston. Nice win for your Cowboys today. I know that it came at Terri's expense though.
Me alegra saber que estan interesado en como piensa la gente...de allá y de acá. Saludos.

We love history. It helps us to connect with the area that we are in. We really did enjoy our time in Oaxaca.

Thanks! I got it at a Joe Walsh concert. Under the "FUNK" is "49", and on the back is "WALSH". 🎸🤘💕 ~Gina

@@donnacaskey277 Thanks for the information on that Donna. That is what we love about all of you, the willingness to help and share.
Have lived in Mexico for 30 years - much more relaxed here and feeling of freedom. Great escape from the rat race!
It’s the best way to live. Now that we have experienced it, we look back and go "WHY?" LOL

The guest was lovely but the hosting wasn't very good. It seems like a punch list of questions rather than a real conversation.
Yes, we did have questions prepared so she could think about her answers in advance. Sorry that we let you down. Thanks for watching.

You must be from the US. You’re so rude and negative.
You are probably from the United States
