Fun fact, while not unheard of, we are actually souls inhabiting a physical vessel known as a body, to interact with the physical plane. While the body is susceptible to aging, we as souls/spirits, do not. The Shadows could be within the same logic. I am not sure if the Shadows here are based on the Shadows from the Persona series, the Wraiths (which are basically Souls made out of Nether), or even based on Shadow People. You guys in the comment section are free to let me know about that.
