- The Sunila pulp mill and the adjoining residential area designed by Alvar Aalto are famous works of modern architecture. The Sunila project (1936-38, 1947, 1951-54) is the largest that was completed according to the original plans of Aalto. Sunila is located on the estuary of river Kymi, by the Gulf of Finland. In addition to the 12 terraced houses and apartment buildings there is the manager’s residence Kantola, a sauna by the sea and several maintenance buildings. The Sunila residential area is protected by law due to its architectural values.

I love all of your videos! It’s so nice seeing what my relatives in Finland see.
That's so nice to hear! :)
The Sunila project looks really very big ! Definitely Alvar Aalto is a great architect! It was nice to see this video!
Thanks! It was nice to show one of the most famous projects of Alvar Aalto.
Hei! Voisitko tehdä videon Karhulasta... Minun lapsuuspaikka...
Hei, mielelläni voisin tehdä jossain vaiheessa, kun olen taas Kotkassa käymässä :)
@@Polulla Se olisi mukavaa :)
Alvar Aalto was one of the biggest architectural criminals to ever live. Because of him, a lot of beautiful old buildings were destroyed so he could build some ugly concrete boxes.
I hate to say that, but I honestly think this kind of architecture is extremely boring and depressing. Alvar Aalto had some interesting entries when it comes to functional buildings, but I'm a big anti-fan of using this kind of style in residential areas and the great shadow of modernism is something which in my opinion is dramatically making Finnish cities uglier than they could be (specially from the Turku disease period).
