    I think these bags would be even better for traveling with some packing cubes.

      Thanks man! Yea...I’m fortunate to have a good job but I do go without in other areas of my life to finance this. Really hoping to re-monitize my channel to help defray some costs! Thanks for the sub and watching my vids. It all helps.

    Hey man, first of all I'm a big fan of yours all the way from Singapore! I'm just wondering if you could do a review of the Rhake & Hauser? Thanks & keep up the great job! :)

    • @MissionWorkshopReviews

      Thank you so much! I hear MW has quite the folllowing in Singapore. I have no immediate plans for the Rhake, however the Hauser review is on its way. I am a bit back logged with lots of new stuff, so perhaps another month or so before the Hauser. But I’ll make it a priority for you. It’s a really great bag. I was surprised how much I liked it.

      Mission Workshop Reviews Great!!! Thanks so much man, yeah your review of the Radian is great! It’s like an almost complete backpack, good to know MW listens to what we need/want. Also, yeah MW is big here but not many people could afford them, so you don’t see much on the streets. I’ll be waiting!!! :)

      Fairoz Samil in March 2017 I saw a prototype of the Rhake. And I was like “wow. This has like everything people complain MW bags lack.” And the guys at MW told me “yeah, we listened.” So true. Radian as well. It really does have it all. But boy is it pricey. Worth it though.

    What are the dimensions when the bag is fully packed out compared to the fully packer 40l r8

  • @michaelortega25
    @michaelortega25 6 років тому

    Can you comment on the cargo volume? I saw your review last week and bought one, got it yesterday. I'm disappointed with the cargo volume. I can't believe it's 42 liters. I have a smaller r6 and the vandal (which I love). The vandal says 29 to 65. I think the 65 of the vandal is way more than twice the space of the radian, so I'm finding it hard to believe that the radian is legit 42 liters. Unless my vandal is somehow supersized.

    • @michaelortega25
      @michaelortega25 6 років тому

      To add. I did a somewhat unscientific measurement with some 1.5 liter water bottles I happen to have (bottled water). I could fit 6, with about half as much space above, so I think I could fit 9 if the shape was different. That's 9 * 1.5 liters is around 14. If I assume that the bottle is a cylinder (it is) and to compensate to a box that would enclose it, I'll be generous and give it a 2x. Do I come up with about 28 liters. Not sure how to get to 42. What am I missing? Are they measuring outside dimensions?

    • @MissionWorkshopReviews
      @MissionWorkshopReviews  6 років тому

      michaelortega25 there’s actually been a lot of talk around the Radian’s capacity. I did a lot of side by side measurements of it next to a 40L R8 for someone on Mission Workshop’s subreddit. Here’s the deal: liters are determined by filling the bag up with beads. IMO, the Radian has its most cargo capabilities in its ability to expand outward. The clamshell design allows it to bulge better than most. Also, the roll top opening allows for additional space. I will say it is quite close between a 40L bag and the Radian otherwise. As for the Vandal, the upside-down triangle design of the cargo area allows for a deceptively large amount of crap. The 65 liters is over a 50% increase in capacity on the Radian. So keep that in mind when comparing the two bags.

    • @michaelortega25
      @michaelortega25 6 років тому

      Mission Workshop Reviews thanks. I'll try more when I get back from my trip. I get that the vandal 65l is more, but it certainly feels a LOT more than the 40, not just 60%.

    Nice review. I do wish that the length was a bit shorter, but I'm assuming it's part of your presentation and style (first time viewing your channel). On the topic of the travel flap at the very end of the video, I think it's more for being able to fit the bag into overhead bins or under seats easier without straps sagging. As other comments mention, it does not look like you would want to check this bag in under any circumstances due to lack of security locking features.
    I would also like to hear more long term usage notes for this, given that the review is about 3-4 months old, how have you found this bag? Is it too large for you to use as a daily driver? If so, what would you change about the bag to make it usable for both commuting and traveling both?

    • @MissionWorkshopReviews
      @MissionWorkshopReviews  6 років тому

      Thanks. This was my second longest review (a complete run down of every Arkiv accessory (at the time) is my longest). The Radian is a big bag, with lots of features, and a HUGE price tag so I thought a short review wouldn't do it justice (or justify the huge price tag). As for the travel flap, MW markets it as airport luggage turnstile friendly, but there are many uses as you described. Me personally, I use this bag for camping and I tuck the straps away when it sits in my tent for a few days for tidiness purposes.
      I have toyed with doing follow up reviews on certain items (like the RunBikeHike socks) but since I only post every fortnight, I usually have new things to review. Nevertheless, I am happy to discuss my usage in the comments. Despite being a big guy (6'3"), I am not a fan of big bags for EDC, so I think the Radian is too big for me. But I do think people can use it for EDC. Since I have multiple MW bags, I use my 20L Fieldpack as my EDC, and I use the Radian for campouts and traveling. But I can see people totally using the Radian for EDC. For me, the clamshell design is clutch, especially in the tent. Its like a roller suitcase that I can comfortably carry on the trail to my campsite.
      If I only had one bag however, this would be a strong contender (the Rambler would be the other). The Radian has so many great EDC features (laptop sleeve, iPad/water bladder pocket, water bottle holder), as well as great travel features (clamshell, extra padding on the arm straps and grab handle, Arkiv rails). The only downside is it is ALWAYS 42L whereas the Rambler, despite lacking so much, at least cinches down to a very manageable 22L when not fully expanded. I will say the Radian does get a slight edge over other 40L bags, like the Fieldpack, for potential EDC use because the back of the bag utilizes a new design for MW which allows for more air flow compared to the air mesh on the older bags. Hope this helps. And thanks for viewing.

      Thanks for your feedback and insight on the long term usage! I actually just picked this bag up since I'll be relocating to India for six month assignment and I'm planning to travel carry-on only. Really appreciate your comparative analysis on the EDC notes!

    • @MissionWorkshopReviews
      @MissionWorkshopReviews  6 років тому

      Ah--well I think this is the right bag then. For constant travel, this is the one. The clamshell is really clutch for hotel living. The thick arm pads are great for hauling it around the airport and making bus/train connections. Its a little too much for a day pack, but, not totally out of place either. And its nice to have 42L in case you find some great souvenirs while you're out and about. I would definitely recommend some Arkiv accessories. The most versatile in my opinion is the Folio. Also, and I should have noted this in the review but didn't discover it till later, the integrated water bottle holder is nice to have, but be careful when stowing the bag in overhead bins as the water bottle can fall out. I actually have the Arkiv roll top accessory for my water bottle and don't use the integrated water bottle holder. Although, if you want two veritcal zip Arkiv accessories (they are nice to have for quick access stuff) you can still use the integrated water bottle holder. Just be careful when stowing it in overhead bins. Good luck on your forays to India!

      Lalo Berón thanks. Appreciate the support. So Mission Workshop is very supportive of my channel and I get some inside info here and there for my breaking news segments but I pay for almost all the items. That’s why when UA-cam demonetized smaller channels like mine it hurt a lot. Been trying really hard to get to 1,000 subscribers so I can be eligible for ad revenue again. Almost half way there!

    How difficult is it to change out the buckle if you get a Radian with the regular compression buckle? Is this something you would have to take to a seamstress to change?

    • @MissionWorkshopReviews

      joel segovia no need for a seamstress. It’s a simple Velcro operation. Takes all of two minutes.

    The check in capability is kinda made semi-useless as you can’t lock the bag.

    • @MissionWorkshopReviews
      @MissionWorkshopReviews  6 років тому

      Suppose that is an issue---however a small wire combination lock could probably do the trick if you thread it through the zipper pulls.
