- We start our journey in our Roadtrek Zion campervan to Alberta, Canada and stay at various lakeside and riverside campgrounds in BC on the way there: the Princeton Municipal Campground, Kettle River Recreation Area and Moyie Lake Provincial Park. Our first stop in Alberta was Castle Provincial Park in the southwest corner of Alberta where Gordon was amazed at the stunning views while paddling Beaver Mines Lake and hiking the Table Mountain Trail.

I remember when you first got Mr. Finch. He was a bit nervous then about van travel and camping. Clearly, he has now embraced both. 😀
Yes, he seems to enjoy it though like Gordon he is always glad to get home too!
Always enjoyed your channel with beautiful scenery and listen to the birds . Enjoy watching you drive on highway and the towns . As always BS & BK & BC !!
Always appreciate your comments! 🚐
Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Yes, some great scenery still to come. We quite enjoyed the whole trip!
Sorry I'm late watching, I've been busy and I need to catch up with my "watch later" list. I love seeing the beautiful scenery. Looks like Finch found the perfect chin resting place. I love the title of this one - I'm a Gordon Lightfoot fan from way, way, back, and I used to do road trips playing his music. When I hear his songs I can picture myself all those years ago, driving along listening on a cassette tape. I never got to Alberta though.
We really enjoyed driving once we got to the actual prairies in Alberta..long straight roads, wonderful green fields, but often very windy. Finch seems to enjoy prairie views even more!
You need to do a camping cookbook, you always seem to have some amazing meals.
🙏 maybe an ebook! 😊
Very pretty place .Thanks for sharing! Enjoy every minute!
Glad you enjoyed! 🚐
Amazing!
🙏
The Crow’s Nest is a very nice drive
We really enjoy Cranbrook to Pincher Creek…mountains and then rolling hills and ranch lands!
Ooooh enjoyed the jazz clip too! More?
🙏Noted!
We spent a 4 day week in Kettle River Campground, I believe you left as we were arriving. My wife’s first time in the park , I worked in the area lots so spent a feel lunch breaks there . Have a great trip .
We quite enjoyed! Not cyclists, but a great place if you are!
Castle park looks fantastic, wasn't even aware of it. Looks like Dinosaur Provincial park is up next.
We are keen to get back to Castle Park again and explore some of the other sections as well…and yes, you recognized some of the scenery coming up!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍89
🙏
Just added Castle Mountain to my Notes of places to check out. Vetted by Gord and Miki... 🙂
😊…suspect you will enjoy!
We loved part one! The scenery, great music, delicious looking meals - thank you for sharing the recipes and of course we love to see your dear furry travelling companion. Sounds like he has quite the night life! It’s obvious that you put a lot of time and creative energy in to your videos and this was one of your best!! Thank you 🙏
Appreciate the comments and glad you enjoyed! Finch has a different routine in the van than at home…early am he seems to get excited and want to play and look outside…then asleep around 5 again. He does seem to enjoy though! 🚐🐱
Greay video 😀 Love to see you drive through my home town Keromeos actually im from Cawston lol
🙏 We almost always stop in Keromeos; usually for fruit, some fresh vegetables and samosas! Love the whole area and the vineyard’s!
Just stunning!! Can't wait for your next video on your trip...
🙏. For us it’s almost like traveling there once again!
Do you ever boondock? We like to "wing it", so it's often difficult to get a site at a campground. IOverlander is pretty good, Harvest Hosts as well.
Somewhat depends on the definition of the term, but if you mean just camping off the beaten path (not in a recreation site or Park) then no. We do go to quite rustic sites, but almost always they fall under some designation as a campsite. We did have a Harvest Host membership for a while, but just didn’t use (or need it). Thinking we may join once again as the world has gotten busier. We probably don’t have reservations most of the time, but will do if we are expecting to go to a busy area. Even B.C. rec sites (which are largely all FCFS) can get busy on summer weekends. Less so, generally the farther north you go. All that said, we have met a number of folks who say they often camp overnight in warehouse areas, parking lots at some hotels or at gates to closed parks as examples..just not our comfort zone. So far we have avoided Walmart…but came darn close once!
Yes, I understand the feeling safe. We travelled across Canada last summer, and were fairly lucky with most last minute campgrounds, but we did stay at a few tourist info sites, trucker stops, away from the truckers though. Vancouver Island we stayed in campgrounds, and Tafino....otherwise we ran with the wind. Haha
Simply Lovely. What pack-raft are you using? Weight and pack ability. Have a great trip😊
🙏 It is an Alpacka Explorer 42. Largely perfect for us as we could use for 2 for short paddles as well. We believe it was discontinued this year, but we have loved it for a decade plus. Roughly 8lbs. Carried it to many remote lakes etc.
What do you use for prevention ticks? & for your cat?. Lovely camping especially those hikes.
🙏. We have never had a tick issue so far, but are always cautious to check. Usual good practice is to wear long pants, socks and long sleeve shirts, and we try to avoid going through long grasses and too busy of an area in tick season. Miki is better at that than me, so I need to be thorough at times. As for Finch, we don’t take him outside except usually on to a mat for a few minutes, in part as he seems to prefer the van and we want to limit any risks with him (he also tends to want to eat almost anything he sees so we try to avoid that).
We just got back from a 3 week road trip to Montana, North and South Dakota and Alberta. It was so cold around Banff that we came home 2 days early. Just a couple of days ago it was 8 degrees Celsius when we were in Kamloops. Took a look at Skhist and it looks pretty good but we still miss Lytton. Nancy
Yes, on our departure Manning was close to 0 at night, and later we hit a few nights at 4, but otherwise ok. Found that sweet spot…not too cold, not too hot on this trip.
Just before we left , Montana got a big dump of snow in late May. We actually put our snow tires back on. It was nice at Writing on Stone. Nancy
I went to SunPeaks Resort for 5 - 6 consecutive years in the middle of summer; one of those years, it actually snowed there but was raining in Kamloops.
@@douglasmcbryan3705 friends on this trip joined us at our next stop and then went down to Writing on Stone…we have enjoyed it there as well!
@@ScubaSteveCanada yes, people tend to forget the elevation they are at also is a factor!
Don't neglect Waterton National Park if you've never been there. Well worth the drive but get reservations there. It's also the world's first International Peace Park which borders with Glacier National Park in the U.S. You can take a boat ride to the American side. Bring your passports if you decide to do that. Cheers, Steve
P.S. I traded in my Ford Transit Class B in favour of a 16 foot travel ProLite Profil trailer (Quebec company). More interior space but won't be able to get to certain areas I could with my old Class B.
Waterton is nice, and certainly worth the trip…not this time though. On our list to go back to! Always a trade off in a RV..hope you are enjoying!
One of everything you need in the van and another of the same in your home/car whatever. That way you never have to say 'I forgot the something I'd really like to have at home". Thrift stores, Value Village (which is no longer ant sort of value), cheap hiking stix from Amazon...
Good advice…we do have most things done that way, but not all!
🐾👣🌮🍺✌️🙏
🙏🚐
Love your vids on the scenery and commentary but personally I am not a fan of what you are eating and drinking I would rather see more scenery.
Appreciate the feedback!
Screw that! I like the whole experience, and food is part of that!! Keep doing what you do!
@@dval823 glad to hear! We try to cover a bit of everything on a trip.
Yeah, I love the scenery too, but I do appreciate the camp cuisine as well.
