Thats no weakness, the fact that you've done that trip in that space of time (including a lap of the ring) is testament to what the design of the car is about
That car is truly stunning, but I sense this won't be a keeper by Tim's reaction, which is a shame, because it appeared to deliver everything a GT should - particularly an older one!
Just not his type of GT. Maybe when he ages another 10 or so years he will be ready to get another one. But yeah, you can sense it's likely the next to go. But not a bad thing, someone who rather have it can enjoy it instead while Tim get's something he would enjoy more.
I am fortunate enough to own the DB9.2.....2014 coupe....and, although there is always a faster car, none has smitten me as this one...I've had a variety of cool/ fast cars in my life but my Audrey steals my heart
I remember seeing this car for the first time when it featured on casino royale and I instantly fell in love with it! The looks, the sound. The perfect GT car. 👍
I remember in Clarkson's TG review he said if you don't look at it as a DBS but as a DB9S, then it makes perfect sense. I think this is best example of that statement. The perfect cruiser and daily supercar with enough power to keep up with most supercars, but also comfortable enough for long trips.
That has got to be one of the most beautiful ways to cross continents. Effortless progress, a true GT in every sense. I'm SO glad you got this Tim, I know it's not as fizzy and outlandish as some of your other cars (Your irreplaceable 675LT always comes to mind first) but to see something that's just "right" like this lovely deep blue mile muncher, always makes for a special video. There's always something about it that makes any drive carry a glamour and sense of occasion that only a graceful Aston Martin can.
It's amazing how desensitized to speed one can become when driving really powerful cars, the fastest I've ever driven is 175 kmph and I felt like I was flying... my guy here is doing 210 kmph and said he's a bit disappointed! Kudos bruv
The weather, the sufficiently powered car, your knowledge of the track and a healthy absence of ego when it comes to letting faster cars pass - all perfect!
Really, Christoph? I thought he seemed a bit uncomfortable when he was being overtaken. After enjoying 'top dog' status at the 'Ring in one of his supercars, having to move aside for a kid in a BMW is probably more than he's prepared to put up with. I expect that this lovely Aston will be gone, soon.😞
Shmee's just knocked £50,000 off the value of a DBS in one video! Any of these Astons are lumps, think about the weight of the engine alone, but the car did was it was designed to do..get you across continents swiftly, without fuss and in comfort...long live the DBS.
I guess this is your first time watching Shmee then...... Since clearly all of his cars aren't garage queen, and are driven no matter what will happen to the cost. So..... he has the right to drive DBS in whatever way he wants
@@JoDON111 relax buddy, he can defend himself, but the way I read it, he was simply saying Tim's knocked down the market value of the DBS in general, by basically saying its a "good GT car for older folk"! Not really exciting stuff, I'm sure you'd agree 😉
@shmee150 It's always pure pleasure driving the Nordschleife. Very cool you take almost all you're cars to the track and do a lap with it. I'm the owner of the bleu Schirmer M2 GT passing by at 10:50 Had no idea you where driving behind me. As always great video!
Beautiful sound but definitely not worth bringing to the track compared to so many other shmeemobiles! Thanks for always bringing the fresh content Tim!
Thanks for the ride along video. Yes, the DBS is a bit too old for you but it is beautiful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into the trip to try and entertain us, you must have been "shattered" as you say.
Hey Tim, it's laughable when you say you're spoiled off truly focused sports and hyper cars, but that DBS is doing exactly what it was made for. That car is like a Tuxedo with wheels and tires on it. But I'm sure if you wanted a little more out of it, I'm sure by now there's things made for it. Here in the states, the speeds you was doing would get you locked up unless you're in Arizona. I like that car, definitely a good look on the town...
There's definutely upgrades for the V12 engine. The later vanquish had essentially the same engine with more HP, and then there's aftermarket power adders (headers, exhaust, etc) on top of that. But ya, it's not like he can use nearly all of that in the UK
Beautiful car. Perfect for such a trip. And nice driving on the ring. You have definitely improved over the years and it is great to watch laps, even if they are slower due to the car etc, which is totally understandable. Thank you for keeping up the great content. Especially these vlog type videos. It’s good to mix the content up.
This has to be one of the best on the channel, yes it’s slow and not agile but It’s relaxing and at the end of the day imagine doing such a distance in such a short time and still having energy left. In addition it actually seemed just fast enough and that laid back vibe kinda got intriguing. It’s old but I guess everyone will agree this is the real Gold.
I have a DBS myself, albeit in a 6 speed manual. For this car to be understood you need to have it in a manual. The combination of a hydraulic rack, RWD, manual, V12, and timeless looks is something that cannot be found in many places. The 6 speed suits the character of the car and makes it much more involving and fun to drive. The gearing is long so not a problem for traffic and around town. The soft suspension soaks up the bumps on back roads and on daily cruising. It's not a sharp track weapon by any stretch of the imagination. However putting on fresh PS4S tyres and getting an alignment will absolutely transform the car. Also of importance is removing the redundant secondary catalytic converters. Aston supplies their own part that will remove significant weight, increase throttle response, increase HP, remove excess heat build-up and uncork the exhaust note (it's not too loud but you can always add a remote for the butterfly valve)
Hello, I'm not sure if you will see this as the comment was posted quite a while ago but what Aston part are you referring to? I've recently acquired a DBS and would look into this
Appreciate the videos, cars and watches ,good to see you enjoying both, not hiding them away as so many do .As for the track it would certainly separate the men from the boys if still in use for F1.
Do you think it will be special enough, Dennis? I get the impression that Tim's looking for 1,500+BHP with extra electric motors and F1 tech and performance in order to stay ahead of his own expectations. If I were a car in the Shmee fleet I'd be feeling very nervous over the next few months.
I have had my DBS for 8 years and totally recommend a Quick Silver exhaust. It transforms the driving experience and the music from the V12 is a source of constant pleasure. It’s a Gentleman’s Express.
Great mini adventure with the DBS and a fun way to dust off the proverbial cobwebs. I like it that the car is "kinda slow". Thank you Shmee, much enjoyed ✌
When someone has a GT8 and feels their DBS is a little too unassuming and not dynamic enough, it's very obvious what you need to replace the DBS with.... *GT12* 😃
Shmee150 Absolutely Incredible Video I'm glad your Trip with your Absolutely Gorgeous V12 DBS went well and I'm glad you had a great time with it on the Nordschleife
It would be nice to see more of your travels rather than in car views. Lots of towns, cities, buildings, people you must have met etc... all we got was an in car camera with you driving from the UK to Germany and back. Their must have been some really cool things along the way and it would be nice to see these places. I appreciate it's not a travel program but it kind of is a Grand Tour type video
I was half-expecting Tim to pull over, get out, disappear into the trees, and come back brandishing a leafy branch Basil Fawlty-style to give the Aston a damn good thrashing...
A perfect lottery win 3 car garage would be one of these as a daily luxurious and still always turn back and look when parked. A new 911 GT3 as a track/serious driving weapon and just to really nerd out. and a Ferrari F12 TDF for the seriously special drives. ahhhh man what a dream. im picturing how each would look next to eachother and wow haha.
I live in America and drive a 2014 Shelby Gt500 we don't have a Autobahn. But hit 130 mph with ease and it sucks we don't have a track to go around like you guys.
Oh, you say the DBS is for an older person... Good job I'm 66 then! So, its the Manual I have, and it is a proper drivers car. I drove the Auto, and its got a totally different personality. Manual makes it. Thank's Tim. The Oldie.
At the end of the day a DBS IS a true "GT" car, it's NOT a hyper car. It's quicker than your average machine, but it's not all about massive power & rocket ship performance. For most people a DBS on the 'ring would be plenty fast enough, but given what Tim is comparing it to within his collection, it's understandable for him to call 550BHP "slow". A GT is designed for effortlessly crossing a continent, as per the drive from Germany to the UK, not for thrashing around the 'ring!
You definitely should give your own car (so the shmee mobiles) a rating when you drive it on the Nurburgring and the Autobahn! Something like speed, handling, acceleration, corner speed, feeling, emotion, etc. And list it to compare it. I know I would definitely be interested in this information!
Too bad that you found thecDBS disappointing at the Ring. This "older person" would gladly take it off your hands it's one of the best looking cars in your collection!
Maybe not a sports car but a true GT. However, there are plenty of tweaks available from some very famous third party tuners that would iron out most of the issues that Schmee has come across - not least of which is a performance remap, a gearbox software remap and a better free flowing exhaust. Motor trend most likely tested a manual is my assumption. Gearboxes from 10+ years ago were quite inefficient with power transmission
The sportshift gearbox is pretty damn slow
