Glad you looked at the germans. No matter what you think of someone historically I think its always good to view and understand events, triumphs and tragedies from everyone's view point. It must have been terrifying being a solider defending the beaches, seeing a unending onslaught of allies overwhelming you. While it not easy for any side, at least attacking there is a way out to aim for. I can't imagine having the courage to hold a beach like the German soldiers had to. I think I would surrender pretty quick. I wonder if they kept on thinking they just had to hold long enough for the panzer's to arrive, idk.
On "Utah Beach," the landing forces suffered the lowest number of soldiers killed: 197. Almost 500 were wounded but there an additional 575 losses among navy and airforce. A staggering 2500 Airborne troops were wounded of whom 238 died.
Cegesh I'm not feeling bad for the nazi, I'm feeling bad for the man. Heck, even if someone IS a complete piece of s***, it's better to at least recognize that they are, in fact, a human being, which means that it's not wrong to feel some sense of pity for general misfortune. That is different from condoning their acts, even if it doesn't seem so. I don't condone robbing banks, but if I saw a bank robber getting tortured, no one would say I was a robber sympathizer or such for feeling bad for him.
Cegesh not all nazis are evil they’re human too not only Germany committed war crimes every country during the war committed war crimes and the soviets did worse
@@FrickThePainAway It is hard to say how involved he was. All that had to happen was some one to say Rommel knew about it was enough to get him convicted. 6:06 MG-42 going RATATATATATA. Ha ha...yeah right. That thing goes VRRRRRRRRR when it fires. Like splitting cloth, hence the nickname: Hitler's Buzzsaw
No, the gun fired so fast that the barrel would get extremely hot true, but thats why gun crews had 2 sometimes 3 spare barrels. With a slight tug on a switch you could pull the barrel out and slide in a new one. It took about 7 seconds, and that's what most Allied troopers waited for when advancing toward an MG position, the barrel change.
Hey guys, this episode isn't in the complete Extra History playlist. A small oversight. Wanted to let you know so it doesn't hamper anyone else trying to watch through :) Continue doing amazing work. Because History Matters.
A minor detail....but thank you for orienting the beach obstacles correctly...specifically, the ones that were a bipod mount facing inland and a long pole from the apex leading toward the beach. It was designed to tip over any craft running up on it. Many of them in the D-Day scene from "Saving Private Ryan" were facing the wrong way.
in early 1944, I think most top-ranking generals knew the war was going really badly. Perhaps Hitler and some of his generals acted on purpose to ensure the Allies established a proper beachhead, so they could get to the german Heartland before the Soviets did?
Honeypie 23 Hitler doesn't seem like the person to give up so easily. He was very confident In his abilities to stop the allies from landing on Normandy.
Adding to the German planning and officers being out of the area includes the war games that were scheduled for June 6th to practice defeating an Allied invasion. So many officers left for the games a day early to enjoy an extra day off.
5:33 "We didn't penetrate their armor!" At some point you should probably look up a video of an MG 42 firing, because it definately doesn't go "ratatata". It was nicknamed "Hitler's Buzzsaw" for a reason. Also, if WG's idea of outreach is throwing money at Extra History, I like it. Keep it up!
My paternal grandfather was a medic on the British beaches. At one point a German fighter, maybe a stuka or a messerschmitt, and he was so scared, he hid behind a piece of pipe 1/3 of an inch wide.
Enough to be a serious hassle. D-Day is an excellent example of what could be achieved if those armoured divisions were succesfully kept away from the battlefield, whereas Market Garden provides a rather stark contrast to that, and shows just how destructive they could be even in defence.

Looks painful, considering that’s 1800 rounds a minute recoiling into your wrist
technically speaking that's what the buttstock is for...
Anybody want a broken wrist or some major bruising?
Glad you looked at the germans. No matter what you think of someone historically I think its always good to view and understand events, triumphs and tragedies from everyone's view point.
It must have been terrifying being a solider defending the beaches, seeing a unending onslaught of allies overwhelming you. While it not easy for any side, at least attacking there is a way out to aim for. I can't imagine having the courage to hold a beach like the German soldiers had to. I think I would surrender pretty quick. I wonder if they kept on thinking they just had to hold long enough for the panzer's to arrive, idk.
Erwin Rommel, best field marshal and husband lol
May he rest in peace.
Thank you for reminding people of Juno. Never shall we forget, nore shall we forget the efforts of our allies.

On "Utah Beach," the landing forces suffered the lowest number of soldiers killed: 197.
Almost 500 were wounded but there an additional 575 losses among navy and airforce.
A staggering 2500 Airborne troops were wounded of whom 238 died.
Can you guys do an episode on The Seven Year War?
Jay Patel feature history did it watch it it’s interesting
I love how you guys tell the story.
Hi Extra Credit, do u think you could do a couple of videos about the start of the Napoleonic war if you don’t mind, I would appreciate that.
Love the animation and everything
Why let some stormy weather get in the way of a great crusade.
This series is sooo good! Thankyou very much for making it, and to Wargaming for supporting it! 💜
do the battle of Britain
yes
Pretty sure they already have.
They touched on it during one of the resource war episodes, but haven't had a series focusing on it alone.
5:58 appreciate the random 3 dimensional drawing among all the 2d drawings
I honestly feel bad for the German man. He just took a day off to treat his wife.
Cegesh
I'm not feeling bad for the nazi, I'm feeling bad for the man.
Cegesh I may be wrong, but Rommel was involved in the assassination attempt on Hitler. It did fail, but Rommel died for his involvement.
Cegesh not all nazis are evil they’re human too not only Germany committed war crimes every country during the war committed war crimes and the soviets did worse
@Cegesh he did follow the killing orders of jews and soldiers
@@FrickThePainAway It is hard to say how involved he was. All that had to happen was some one to say Rommel knew about it was enough to get him convicted. It was then just like to day where some on can tell some thing to the press and they are considered guilty but then it was the secret police. You know who I mean.
I always found the story of the Falaise Pocket and the Destruction of Heersgruppe B to be very interesting. It was what ended Overlord to be the overwhelmingly Decisive victory that it was.
Boy do I love your vids. Keep up the great work
I like how u start and end each episode on some sort of cliffhanger like we dont know whats gonna happen next even though we do. Its like watching a prank then watching a reaction to a prank.
6:06 MG-42 going RATATATATATA. Ha ha...yeah right. That thing goes VRRRRRRRRR when it fires. Like splitting cloth, hence the nickname: Hitler's Buzzsaw
Sunjian 54 Really???
Yes, 25 rounds a second
Sovek I was sarcasticly referring to the nitpicking, though now I feel bad for not making it clear enough
MG-42 go skrrrra pa pa ka ka ka
and, with this, the forces involved in D-Day have all been covered
8:43 I guess you could say Hitler’s somewhat Reich....I’ll show myself out.
I was looking for information about D-DAY but this really helps thanks
Rommel went to his wife’s Surprise party where everyone got surprised
Hey guys, this episode isn't in the complete Extra History playlist. A small oversight. Wanted to let you know so it doesn't hamper anyone else trying to watch through :)
Continue doing amazing work. Because History Matters.
6th of june 1944 allies are turning the war, Normandy - state of anarchy Overlord
Wouldn't it be more correct to say that it turned the moment the Germans began pushing back the Germans?
Aiming for heaven, though serving in hell.
Victory is ours - their forces will fall!
THROUGH THE GATES OF HELL
My great-grandfather fought on D-Day. He was a private and at the end of the day his was commanding his platoon. All of his superiors had died.
I actually like rommel hes a good general
He was very confident
In his abilities to stop the allies from landing on Normandy.
Adding to the German planning and officers being out of the area includes the war games that were scheduled for June 6th to practice defeating an Allied invasion. So many officers left for the games a day early to enjoy an extra day off.
I'm just sitting here hoping Gaijin Entertainment sponsors a series on Stalingrad just so I can make a comment about Russian bias.
Bouncing betty mines, literal ball busters.
*G E R M A N Y*
When you watch all these PLUS oversimplified, then you know ALL about EVERY SINGLE WAR!!!
i watch both, but you gotta do more, potential history, simple history, sam o nella, knowledge hub, and armchair historian are all youtubers i watch
How big were the German tank divisions and how many did Germany actually have?
Enough to be a serious hassle. D-Day is an excellent example of what could be achieved if those armoured divisions were succesfully kept away from the battlefield, whereas Market Garden provides a rather stark contrast to that, and shows just how destructive they could be even in defence.
full numbers would be hard to find. this is still in the middle of a war, so divisions and regiments sizes wouldnt be uniform.
Something I've only just noticed that I think is a nice touch, Dan's pic stops smiling when he talks about the losses and damages of a battle.
3:01 Irish People? Did You get offended?
Chills, man... Whoever of you at EC who writes the scrips, you're awesome!
