Afro house didn’t come from Tulum or “that sorta thing”. This pop culture open format thing isn’t “house” or any of its real cultural derivatives. This is why people dont dance to it. Dances aint wrong in his observations, but there is an actual culture behind these styles of music that has a DEEP well of dope music that people actually dance too. It has nothing to do with bottle service or big brimmed hats and burning man art cars. Not saying you guys are wrong in your observations, probably right on the money 😂…but sucks that these loop factories are out here makin what they think house or afro house. Womp womp. Enjoyed the convo banter.. hope you guys keep growing this pod its dope.
No, you get.. Road isn't into house like that, but if they bring a guest speaking on house, that person has to be legit.. The issue is that within the house community, there is a schism between the soulful, now afro, and deep, funky house, progressive. Many of these camps have gotten so big on their own that one doesn't even know what the other is about. However, there are very few open-house djs who have depth in multi sub-genres of house.
Everyone is on either coke or K at events now. Raves used to be all about plur and everyone was taking MDMA so the vibes were on another level. I also blame social media for ruining the dance floor too. You used to be able to catch a groove by yourself and feel the music without worrying about someone trying to film you and make you go viral if you've had one too many. I'm glad I went to raves when I did because it's not the same now. The scene is very saturated now with basic tech house bros djing the same shit over and over again.
If you think about it, your answers will be mostly from the new era between 2014 to now. 90s began true afro-house, the techy part in 2012 is what made it popular and allowed more South African afro-house enter. Before, it was afro-latin and afro tribal
Great points! I run Make The Girls Dance Records, and I can tell you that we strive to push forward Afro house that's rooted in the tribal essence, and not any of that cookie cutter bs that's coming out now.
There were plenty of ppl dancing at EDC. As far as “clubs” go. Go to the queer clubs. They started Rave culture. They keeping the light burning. They dancing.
Yall are really out of touch as DJ please add someone else to the podcast who is actually in the dance community yall are just open format old heads. To say they would play hard techno at DC-10 is the craziest take I’ve ever heard
100% agree... the issue is that there is such a divide between folks who truly understand the dance music, specifically house community, and those who are simply part of it. The latter are johnny come latelys and think they know the game. The problem is, we have over 40 years of history that is missing from many people's knowledge
the mainstream festivals nobody is dancing. you go to small shows playing techno everyone is dancing.

I am interested to know how everybody think about “Real Afro House”? Which producer gave your favourite Afro House tracks???
Prince Kaybee, Caiiro, Ian Kenzof, Kasango, Themba.

Dances might be my favourite voice in dance dj culture. Literally and figuratively.
DJs talk too much these days also stopping tracks so the vibes stop right there , and the crowd with phones out it doesn’t work
What festivals are you going to???

Expensive hummus 😂
No good drugs anymore!
I can't help it, I suffer from white-man's disease. Symptoms include a complete lack of rhythm 😭
