But price for sinden for 2 controllers and 2 pedals with recoil is like £500+ Then you need a whole set up of console etc Where as this is an all in one package you can set up and put away each time. Seems worth it in that sense
Why do some people say that Gun4IR is superior to Sinden? Aren't these IR guns? I have them but didn't test them yet. I'm making a gun mod with Arcade1up parts. I have the Sindens as well but didn't use them yet. I have a Retro Lizard pc to use them with as well for an Arcade1up mod. I also have Wiimote red and blue guns and Arcade Guns with a super IR bar but I think they don't have recoil. I also have the Arcade1up T2. Are the Retro Shooter guns better if you get the updated ones or get the extra IR sensors for your existing guns?
Best lightgun game for me will always be House of the Dead 2 on Dreamcast. I've beaten it so many times at home and I STILL couldn't pass it in the arcade, spending money with a buddy playing through the whole thing XD We even had a small audience (two or three people peering through the curtains on the side of the cabinet). What a blast this game was. For years now I've been flirting with the idea of getting a CRT (knowing full well I don't have room for it) just so I can play HotD2 again XD
When it comes to light gun games there is no school like the Old School. I still run a Sony Trinitron 36'" XBR down in my game room. That's a 36" diagonal 4:3 ratio CRT TV for you youngins out there. That has one of each of my light gun capable consoles plugged into it through a combination of its many ports and an RCA switch box. So NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis w/Sega CD & 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, and PS2. I can rock everything from the OG Duck Hunt with the zapper to Lethal Enforcers with a pair of Justifiers, House of the Dead with phasers and Time Crisis with the guncon and back again. When it comes to light gun games there really is nothing like playing on period correct hardware. CRT for LIFE!
How is standing so far away from the screen acceptable if it comes to arcade experience? All light guns are like 15 inch away from the screen when shooting in the arcade.
I'm working right now on doing a complete overhaul / refresh on my MAME cab! New PC hardware, new controller, rotatable monitor. It should be glorious...and yes, I'll do a video on it. 👍
I loved Time Crisis 2. Got to be honest, remember when you got a light gun game and all you had to do was plug in the guns and put the disc in. I miss those days.
The guns connect to a PC and act like a mouse and keyboard so no drivers needed. Just calibrate the guns and set the buttons. People are using Teknoparrot, launchbox, big box and soon Batocera. @@GeordiLaForgery
I know one of my wife's favorites was the midway classic AREA 51, so I've been curious to look into one of these setups for arcade gun games for us to play together at home! and having the pedals for the full time crisis experience would certainly be a nice bonus.
I'll never forget bestimg time crisis on the boardwalk when I was like 14. This k it was maybe 2. Can remember the beach mission with a plane flying over
happy to see a new video. I love light gun games but these seem a little too steep for me. Especially since i just went through the process of getting a wii all setup to play all the light guns i can for that platform. Anyhow, happy to see you back and hope you have a great start to the new year!
I remember dragging the the cursor on a wii with lighthun games, they worked better without the gun attachment, just sitting in the sofa and dragging the wiimote was a better feeling. 👌
DMP plugging in the unit and shaking had me rolling 😂 As someone graying more every day when I saw the thumbnail I was waiting for someone to say "I'm getting too old for this ____" 😅 Great review, glad to see light gun games still alive in 2024 ❤
Saw another review from Kongs-R-Us where he was dimming the ambient light and getting wayyy more accuracy, also you should have talked about the fact that you can switch from 16:9 to the original 4:3 in the game options without any additional config or reboot :)
The lights in the room are dimmer than you realize. The new iPhone I filmed the video with and Final Cut make it look brighter than it was. As for 4:3 I should have mentioned it, but we preferred widescreen because we were so far back.
@@theretroshooter Ordered mine yesterday, can't wait to test it :) Never played with this kind on android box before, is it a close ecosystem or is it possible to add/remove game from it ? Haven read anything about it yet.
This is the best all around video about this product that I want. Especially showing us that Set up button underneath the console. Thank you Metal Jesus 💯
Operation Wolf was one of my favourite games for the commodore 64, and it would be fun to play it through with a lightgun instead of the less convenient joystick. Have a happy 2024, Jason and Paul! Keep on grinding
The original cabinets for Operation Wolf and recenty T2: The Arcade Game were never real light gun games. The guns are mounted to the cabinet and use a joystick type control method to know where you're pointing.
Would be way more appealing to a modern audience to to use wireless guns with cameras that actually capture the borders of the screen image without clunky sensors.
Please do the community a favor and do a follow-up review after you've used these guns on PC. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Pretty much everyone who has reviewed them has only done so using the Pandora box console. This is unfortunate because they perform much better on PC.
I'm upgrading my PC MAME machine with new hardware, controller and rotatable monitor...so when the time comes I'd like to compare them to the Sinden guns too. 👍
@@MetalJesusRocks That's good to hear. I realize they're not the best on the market or anything but I do feel like anyone looking for light guns to use with a PC setup may unduly be getting a bad impression based on problems that are mostly caused by the console. Granted many people are interested in the package that includes the console due to the plug-and-play nature of it. So those people are well served by the majority of reviews out there. However, reviews that demonstrate their performance on PC are much harder to find.
There are a lot of guys putting these guns into their arcade cabs. Actually Buy Stuff Arcades makes a drop in monitor and complete kit for the 1Up arcades. It's pretty sweet.
First off, Happy New Year 2024 😊 Second, do you have plans to bring back the Patreon questions, with the crew answering them? I thought it was great and it was also special when you asked other creators to share their thoughts 😉
I wish that Nintendo would release a Wii Mote style motion control system for the Switch, because there's so many of these shooters I'd love to play, and I feel like Nintendo really nailed that IR motion control system. The joycons just don't cut it.
I find it very expensive, except if you want something "out of the box/ready to use". If you already have a Raspberry Pie with Recalbox on it, you can buy the Dolphin bar and use 2 wiimote. Still didnt test yet... Cool video.
IMHO, if you are buying a Lightgun that acts like a mouse, not like the real Lightgun, you better buy pistol like enclosure for wiimotes, and read two or tree Mame tutorials to set up Wiimotes like Lightguns. Sure, it's not that easy to configure, but after that, you have essentialy the same "product" of these pandora box, but without the need of lots of cables, actually, the wiimote solution don't have any cable at all (only the one of wii sensor bar, which you can buy a battery version on internet, so, no cables at all), and plus, the recoil or rumble, is much more smooth and less intrusive on Wiimotes. That's my solution here in my gameroom, and actually, this video made me want to play with my Mame and Wiimotes!
This likes an awesome way to be able too replay some of these amazing light guns games on a modern TV. Very tempted to get this as it would be amazing on a 65 inch TV!
That's for sure. And there are a lot of people who go that route. But some people just want to plug and play and let their kids play the games they grew up with.
@@theretroshooter Sure, I fully understand and it would be great if the current generation consoles could adapt a similar solution, perhaps even some kind of standard so we could get 3rd party "light" guns to play with. As of right now it's a bit of an enthusiast product, I don't see many casual gamers paying $250 for a set.
Great review dude thank you again! I use the LED sensors for Time Crisis 4 and I must say it just isn't the same as the CRT experience. I just wish those CRTs weighed a lot lighter...
I agree with your review of this setup. It is still fun. I am going to try these out on my PC where I use Sinden guns to see if I get better results, I just haven't had enough free time to do that. House of the Dead 2 is my all time favorite, but I love all Namco and Sega light gun games the most.
Great video as always. My all time favorite light gun arcade game is Area 51. The 100s or more of hours I spent playing that at the laundry mat down the street from my school on lunch brake and after school were amazing. This setup looks fun. I'll have to check and see if there is an option without the pandora box. I'm sure there are many other light gun options out there. Thanks again for the reminder of these great games.
if you want a lightgun that is compatible with ps2/ps3/xbox and pc and LCD/LED, plasma, etc. screens, get the EMS TopGun III one. It uses 4 infrared leds that are installed on the screen and a RF receiver. For ps2, only GunCon2 compatible games are supported. This not comes with pandora box, just the gun, infrared leds (4) RF receiver, driver disc for pc, cables and white clay to fix the leds to the screen.
I've had this since October and upgraded to the 4 sensor setup when they released the upgrade. It's an ok system, but has issues. There are roms that just don't work right(ie vs duck Hunt) and the crosshairs trail behind the gun as you use it(on an OLED with all video processing off). I've had issues with the system not starting when I turn it on and with the guns disconnecting. I think most of my issues are with the Pandoras box. It's just a cheap, weak piece of hardware. If I had it to do over again, I would've bought the kit for the PC. The PC users definitely don't seem to have the issues that i do
Thank you for the honest comment. That is correct, it is a work in progress and definitely not as powerful as a PC system. We are working on updates to fix emulators and bugs with the system. We will be releasing an update soon so keep an eye on the group.
How well does Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2 and Police Trainer run on the box? I do also have a mini HP elitedesk just in case and I can load my own emulators and games. Do the extra sensors make the guns more accurate? I might consider getting the extra sensors and new gun tips that ship in February. I have the old guns that I bought around last September but didn't test them yet.
The muzzles will make your gun more accurate and you can move around more without having to recalibrate them. The sensors are going to be the same just a different size and way to set them up, they are smaller. @@robkrasinski6217

Lethal Enforcers. Gotta go with the super classic. Not to mention Crime Patrol, Mad Dog McCree, and Whoshot Johnny Rock? In the arcade though has to be Silent Scope, Area 51, Alien 3 the gun, Aliens Extermination, The Lost World Jurassic Park, or Aliens Armageddon if you aren't talking classics though it is now 10 years old. Another fun time for sure man, great video! Your gun stances and the look on DMPs face cracks me up! 😂
I LOVE light gun games. I owned basically all of them from NES up through Dreamcast. As a VR guy I think the natural progression for light gun games is emulation in VR. The Quest is by far the best VirtualBoy experience out there. And I think would naturally be the best light gun game replacement for the future of preserving the playability of all the retro light gun games.
Oh man last time I played a light gun game for real must have been like 10+ years or more at this movie rental store called Hemmakväll basically translated to Evening at Home, they used to have an area in their store dedicated to arcade machines and I played one of The House of the Dead games, they sadly removed the arcade area after only a few years, then after a few more years they stopped their rental service as well and today they're only a candy store.

Yeah I went down the Batocera route after setting up RetroPie with the lightguns since it was a bit of a pain to manually setup with all the various emulators and getting the settings to actually stick as well@@theretroshooter
Previous versions of this had issues with emulation speed, graphical errors and sound issues. House of the dead 2 is one specific example. Would love to hear if those issues were addressed as well. The guns themselves may be worthwhile and I'm sure there are more games that work than don't. I would just rather see these properly tested and everything working, than some arbitrary its over 9000 games number.
Yeah even if they just reviewed their top ten of lightgun games on this, how each one individually performed, even that would be a big help in regards to inform others on whether to purchase it or not, especially with it being as much as it is.
I'd probalby go with this product because other solutions take a great deal of time and research and there's no guarantee that your endeavors will pay off. I would say the best one to me would be silent scope.
@@theretroshooter I understand that... but I don't have a mini PC yet (it's on the list) and many others don't either. However, for those who I are interested in playing on consoles minus a CRT there are no real-world feasible options. The mini PC will solve a lot of problems, for sure, but again, not every gamer out there has the set-up or space that a Metal Jesus or others have. Plus there are those that just like real hardware. Think about it like this: with a mini-PC and this setup (at best price) you're staring down $500+. Okay, but not everyone wants to do that. My space isn't minute, but one only has the desire to keep up with so much. The computer I have can play almost anything out there, but I like hardware and physical media too.
Elemental Gearbolt is pretty historical and probably the overall Greatest considering its release date. Yes! I knew there was a superior option, but couldn't remember the name.
But price for sinden for 2 controllers and 2 pedals with recoil is like £500+
Then you need a whole set up of console etc
Where as this is an all in one package you can set up and put away each time.
I'm a Travel RN looking for a Light gun for emulation for battle clash, childhood relived😊 how much do the sinden run
Remember they got these for FREE
thank you so much for all the years of quality gaming content; you are def my favorite youtuber!
Wow, thanks!
Nothing kicks more ass than a metaljesus and drunken master video. Been watching for ten years. You guys are legends!
The joy when you get a notification for a new MJR upload 🙌🏻
You're the best!
My fav was Die Hard 1 on the PSX and Virtua Cop on the Saturn.
0:29 What Paul meant is "Say hello to my little friend."
I'll be buying this ASAP!
How is standing so far away from the screen acceptable if it comes to arcade experience? All light guns are like 15 inch away from the screen when shooting in the arcade.
exactly what I was thinking
This is sponsored, so what you expect they gonna say
Love to see a follow up about this with your MAME PC setup!
It looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing the updated version.
I will Always love light gun games!
Another video of these attached to a powerful PC would be fun to watch.
Oh yes, they really do well on a PC. People are using the pedals just like the Time Crisis 5 arcade game. It's sweet.
I wonder how to set this up on a pc for gaming on a emulator.
Looks like great party game! Time Crisis series are favorites 🙂
DMP plugging in the unit and shaking had me rolling 😂 As someone graying more every day when I saw the thumbnail I was waiting for someone to say "I'm getting too old for this ____" 😅 Great review, glad to see light gun games still alive in 2024 ❤
Retro Shooter is awesome and Happy New Year Metal Jesus!
Saw another review from Kongs-R-Us where he was dimming the ambient light and getting wayyy more accuracy, also you should have talked about the fact that you can switch from 16:9 to the original 4:3 in the game options without any additional config or reboot :)
That's true, you have the option to switch from 16:9 to 4:3 in the game pause menu.
A level of detail that MJR doesn’t dive into unfortunately.
The lights in the room are dimmer than you realize. The new iPhone I filmed the video with and Final Cut make it look brighter than it was. As for 4:3 I should have mentioned it, but we preferred widescreen because we were so far back.
I totally understand that, personally I prefer my experience to be as 1:1 as possible. Nice quick review by the way :) @@MetalJesusRocks
Glad it was helpful!
I'm more of a light bazooka man myself. Super Scope ftw!
I will probably buy this at some point. Maybe next iteration if they’re still around
@@dreamcazmanJoystick type sure, but it's ANALOG joystick using 2x 5k-ohm pots to give an X-Y position. The details make a big difference....
@@g4z-kb7ctYes, of course an analogue joystick, not a digital one.
Would be way more appealing to a modern audience to to use wireless guns with cameras that actually capture the borders of the screen image without clunky sensors.
We did think of making a wireless gun but you would not get recoil as the battery pack would take it's place.
0:27 I've always wanted to know what metaljesusrocks O face looked like.
#Giggity 😂
I would love to see someone integrate this set up into an arcade cabinet!
There are a lot of guys putting these guns into their arcade cabs. Actually Buy Stuff Arcades makes a drop in monitor and complete kit for the 1Up arcades. It's pretty sweet.
There are a few videos here on UA-cam where people have upgraded their T2 Arcade1Up cabinets by replacing the guns and SBC with this system.
First off, Happy New Year 2024 😊 Second, do you have plans to bring back the Patreon questions, with the crew answering them? I thought it was great and it was also special when you asked other creators to share their thoughts 😉
I should do that huh? Those are fun to make. Thanks for the reminder.
Cool video.
Operation Wolf and T2 were my favorites in the arcade, and of course Duck Hunt on the NES.
I've been wanting to replay Time crisis for years but the PlayStation ir guns have shot up in price so much lately
These are the way to go!
I love that custom shop in the background
You are supposed to put the wide angle lens that came with the gun for large tv's. And get closer to the tv. It works way more accurate.
I use wii controlls with mayflash as lightgun and use teknoparrot for time crises 5, alien extermination, terminator , transformes, etc
That's my solution here in my gameroom, and actually, this video made me want to play with my Mame and Wiimotes!
heavy price tag 😮😮
This likes an awesome way to be able too replay some of these amazing light guns games on a modern TV. Very tempted to get this as it would be amazing on a 65 inch TV!
Cool, they have a set without the console that you can just use with a PC, that looks like the best option to get the most authentic experience.
War is hell, glad y’all made it through the firestorm lol
You could be reviewing window shutters. I’ll watch anything with you and DMP. I used to love playing Area 51 in the arcade.
Awesome video man 😎!
I use these retroshooters with the lightgun legends build - it is a beast
Pretty cool stuff. If I am in the mood to play some light gun games. I use my Wii and have fun with Resident Evil, House of the Dead or Dead Space.
@@robkrasinski6217 those games seem to work ok. I was honestly underwhelmed by the 4 ir upgrade. I don't feel it improved things all that much.
I was just watching another video from retroshooter showing whats in the box and said you can use the guns on pc without the kit, all the kit does is control the foot pedals and recoil heres a link, it says it at the end of the video 4:40 ua-cam.com/video/erfDtM275Xk/v-deo.html
Wow, I miss the Point Blank games. So, so, much fun 😊😊😊
So true! Still fun to play today.
Jason, hit me up if you want to play NES games with your realistic looking gun on HD TV/monitors. I built an adaptor.
I got one of these with the gums and controllers it comes with thousands of games. Lots of great Gems on here.
I loved playing SNK's Mechanized Attack in the arcades.
Great shirt!! The Roadwolf Crew salutes you!
I like your reviews, but every time you invite some people to try some new devices you never interview them on camera. It'd be nice to hear what they have to say on their own, especially DMP, he's a funny smart guy.
Whats up @MetalJesusRocks 🔫👋🎮🎮📺 Happy New Year
Pauls jacket is dope! U.S.S SULACO BABY!! 😎🤜🤛
You noticed. 😜
I'm Rocking Lightgun Games on CRT tv with PS2 , PS1 and with the Move Guns on led tv with PS3🤘🏻 please do a update video with pc and lowest pc specs needed for arcade games🤘🏻
I loved the game Point Blank. It's a bunch of lightgun mini games. I thought it was only fun when playing against a friend.
Point Blank was legit and super intimidating to play
Lethal Enforcers. Gotta go with the super classic. Not to mention Crime Patrol, Mad Dog McCree, and Whoshot Johnny Rock? In the arcade though has to be Silent Scope, Area 51, Alien 3 the gun, Aliens Extermination, The Lost World Jurassic Park, or Aliens Armageddon if you aren't talking classics though it is now 10 years old. Another fun time for sure man, great video! Your gun stances and the look on DMPs face cracks me up! 😂
Oh man I forgot about Lethal Enforcers! That game ruled!
Lethal Enforcers is a great pick!
If this created an affordable way to play CarnEvil I'm all over it.
If you can emulate CarnEvil on a PC then you can play it with these guns. I was playing it the other day!
@@theretroshooter I definitely can. I will look into this. Thank you for your reply!
hope there will be lightguns with blowback effect like in the arcades.
Just gotta love the Action-hero faces man
I LOVE light gun games.
YES‼️ a NEW MJR vid with DMP😁
I’m glad you made a vid for this Box, I’ve really been interested in it as I’ve been DYING to play a bunch of LightGun games form the good old arcade days😊
I get why it costs so much also, it’s been a long process for people ALOT smarter than me to figure out how to play these games on current monitors
(Much ❤ from WA Coast)
& Hope you have a good 2024 kind sir!
If you have a PC you can also just get the guns. No need for the console.
@@theretroshooter I unfortunately do not have a PC :’(
So this is my only option besides my modded Wii I got off Etsy. Which has plenty of LightGun Games but the ones I really wanna play aren’t on that system
Great review! I really wish there was a good lightgun device for current gen consoles.
You and me both!
That would be sweet! Maybe in the future...
Just get the Sinden and use Batocera. I think 2 player with Sinden might be flaky but single player is great
Sinden guns are fun. Batocera is also adding plug-n-play support for the Retro Shooter guns and you can set up 4 players guns!
I was thinking of getting these even though I have Sinden light guns. The Sinden guns are a bit complex to setup and these look a lot easier. But with the Retro Shooter not being compatible with batocera or RetroPie and the accuracy issues shown here I think I'll stick with the Sinden guns.
Yes, Batocera is adding plug and play support for our guns in V39. They have a git hub that you can follow if you want.
Love the thumbnail, happy new year!
Thanks! You too!
My favorite light gun game is House of the Dead 2, had it for dream cast back in the day, also played it in the arcades
Those add on camera options give you the option to play closer or on a bigger screen.
that's correct. People who have arcade cabs like to be close to the screen and the fish eye lens helps out a lot.
I'd probalby go with this product because other solutions take a great deal of time and research and there's no guarantee that your endeavors will pay off. I would say the best one to me would be silent scope.
Thanks for the video I’ve been wondering when someone was going to find a solution for light gun games
I’m still rocking an old school CRT. Never giving that thing up.
Looks fun, no question duck hunt
Good to see DMP. Would like to see you guys doing videos.
More to come!
Operation Wolf at home? Cool! Hopefully the tech will develop far enough to attach to consoles? Here’s holding on to hope.
Plug it straight to a Mini-PC and you are good to go!
It's a shame tgey haven't yet found a way to make lightgun games as good as they were on old cathodic TVs.
Not bad! For that price you get a LOT. Maybe I’ll grab it on the next release.
Elemental Gearbolt is pretty historical and probably the overall Greatest considering its release date. It was also the most expensive I couldn't afford in og format at 170$+ just for the disc so have only emulated. The Time Crisis Series would have to be the Superior though got all those certainly. On NES my fav is "To The Earth" because it is even more challenging than the latest LightGun games. I built a Home Console LightGun Cabinet CRT setup with og systems NES, Genesis, SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, and Xbox and all the best lightguns and most of the games for them. would like an old atari and its rare lightgun just to complete my retro collection.
