Maybe it's considered an old fashioned dessert, but it is so good and so easy to make, that I think it deserves more attention. A Baked Apple is just that. An unpeeled apple with its cavity filled with a mixture of brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped nuts. It is baked until its skin has become soft and wrinkled, while inside its flesh is wonderfully tender. Pour a little of the juices that have accumulated in the bottom of the pan over the apple and serve hot from the oven, at room temperature, or even cold. Lovely with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, custard, or lightly sweetened yogurt.

Stephanie, I'm so glad you shared this recipe, because I haven't eaten or even thought about baked apples in many long years. My mother often fixed them during my childhood, and like you suggested, served them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. She didn't use nuts or apple juice, just light brown sugar, ground cinnamon and then poured tap water in the baking pan. They always turned out just right, and are actually a delightful comfort food. Sincere thanks for showing us how you make yours. Next time I have dessert for company, this is what I plan to serve!
My mom always served these with ice cream when they were warm. When they were cold the next day she would give us a chunk of cheddar cheese with it. Sounds crazy but it was so yummy!!😍
I've never tried it with cheddar cheese, but that sounds delicious.

I sometimes have a slice of cheddar cheese with a slice of apple pie. Delicious!
Hi Stephanie , you have reminded me of a time when i was in school studying Home Ec., we did something similar but we placed the cored stuffed apple onto a square of pastry and then fold up the pastry to completely wrap the apple . Brush the pastry and bake in the oven . The caramelized juice and the pastry, so delicious . It’s been years but I’m definitely making these again , thank you for stirring up a lovely memory xx

This was a cold winters afternoon treat my mother used to make and the filling would be jam , honey and a bit of butter on top. She - and I do the same now - didn’t use the apple corer but hollowed with a spoon to make a larger cavity. The more filling the better. I also cut a circle midway into the apple so it doesn’t “explose” during cooking. Thanks for reminding me that I could have a treat this afternoon!

Baked apple is winter's favorite and my husband favorite too thats y am always making it. I usually use (vin santo) a bit sweet wine or sometimes rhum:) so delicious😋
I can imagine how the smell would be in the kitchen. Must be yummy. I like apple by itself but this can add another notch of flavor. Yuuuuuum

My granny use to make baked apples for us loved it
Instead of sugar we usually stir a couple of tablespoons of honey into a currants / nuts / cinnamon / clove mix. And when serving pour a spoon of best maple syrup over each apple.
