    Solid Rock has been a true inspiration for me over the last two years.
    I have enjoyed your no nonsense explanations and discoveries as they happened.
    No BS, no 'Experts', just this is what I've found works (in just 40yrs of doing!) and let's try this..
    Refreshing, genuine ..
    Just keep well in these trying times , all of the family.

    Every now and then I get itchy to try to grind a spindle. Then I usually think about all the ways I could screw it up worse and back out. One of these days I will have watched you do this stuff enough I will get enough confidence I have gleaned enough tips and tricks from your videos to do the job and have it come out right. :-)

      By the time you were done, Brian, you'd have a spindle that could grind the ID of a subway tunnel.

      We are really close. Last piece going to heat treat and deep freeze today. The lock down is making things a little difficult but if things go right we should have your comparator very soon.

    The last year+ wasn't productive at all in the shop for me, this gives me "sparks" of inspiration to get back there and get back at it...
    You always come with great insights on how to get the last little detail right, well explained also...

    Can you plunge mill this slot and clean it up with another endmill?

    • @SolidRockMachineShopInc
      @SolidRockMachineShopInc  4 роки тому

      Yes, you can. In plunge milling which I do often you have to be careful the end mill does not pull out of the collect some and cuts deeper than intended.

    do you not like to use a coolant mister when channeling

    • @SolidRockMachineShopInc
      @SolidRockMachineShopInc  4 роки тому +3

      I am not a big fan of misters, they put to much stuff in the air that I would not like to breath. Many of the coatings on carbide inserts do not like coolant and run better dry. For some coatings to work they need high temperatures and cooling many time cause micro fractures on the insert leading to insert failure.

    Just curious, but why do you spin the part and the grinder in the same direction?

    • @SolidRockMachineShopInc

      It has many of the same benefits of climb milling on the mill.
