    Alright Mr. UA-cam Man, you made me order two of these. An R-Pro and a Metal Flake C-Line. They arrived this morning while it was raining, but afterwards, I went and played a few rounds and managed to throw one in from 70ft and doinked the basket 3 others… This is the best disc a YoutTube personality has recommended that I loved immediately! Thanks again Robbie, both are staying in: R-Pro as an approach and the Metal Flake as a thrower.

    That was my initial thought when I saw the Glyph. Eventual halo polecat replacement since it likely will be easier to get a hold of.

    Sprained my ankle a few weeks ago. Still can't throw BH shots. Waiting to get out and try my R-Pro Glyph. My first try at throwing a disc with that shape so we'll see if it stays in the bag.

    So is the glyph basically a premium version of the birdie?

    No, it's not just a Birdie. It uses the Polecat bottom, so it's 2mm shallower than a Birdie. Should be easier to control.

    I am curious how the Glyph compares to the Lone Star Discs Armadillo since they both have thumb grooves.

    • @RobbieCDiscgolf
      @RobbieCDiscgolf  4 місяці тому +4

      I would say extremely similar. In my experience with the premium dillos they had a little more stability out of the box than the Glyph!

  • @JTygerAU

    The Berg is like a high loft wedge in golf. There’s a reason pro golfers carry a ton of wedges. In the short game it’s worth having a large variety of available shots. You would never tell a PGA pro the equivalent of what you said in this video - that they only use their sand wedge because they don’t have enough touch with their 9 iron. The beauty of the berg is its misses have lower variability vs glider options on the shots I use it for. It’s not a required disc, but it can be a useful one. Polecat and pig have shots they are great at for some people. So can the glitch or the glyph. I guess my problem with the Berg comments is that they come across as being non-positive about an option that can be good for lower level disc golfers and also a bit ignorant - love all the work, but I don’t see how it’s on brand for the channel.

      I feel like you should, for the sake of a learning curve, throw a berg -or something like it- when you can throw a comet or something like it. I mean throw what you want but leaning on a berg as a crutch is limiting people's game. I think he was just getting at that point.

    • @JTygerAU
      @JTygerAU 4 місяці тому

      @@worc2187 This is a popular opinion but it’s also obviously wrong. Not sure if you read my post, but why wouldn’t this argument extend to other discs like - if you have touch with a fairway why throw a putter? Most of that time that would actually work, but it’s not the highest percentage shot. It’s about - does one tool for the job make it more likely you will be by the pin than another tool. It has nothing to do with beginner or otherwise. Not saying anyone has to use a berg, just that it’s obviously wrong to say one disc or another is a crutch. You would never say a pro golfer who carries 5 wedges only has those because they are a “crutch” because they can’t recreate all those exact shots as consistently with only a single sand wedge - it’s because it gives them options.
      Going to make this edit - a berg is nothing like a comet and doesn’t fill that same role. Again - could they technically do some of the same shots…sure? But you would way rather choose the disc that’s more likely to make the shot work for you.

    • @worc2187
      @worc2187 4 місяці тому

      Like I said, play your game the way you want but it's a popular opinion for a reason. And I mean you and your game all the respect in the world- I'm sure i can learn a thing or 2 from you. Totally read your post. Also, disc golf is different than ball golf- like guys aren't out there hitting lefty (I think?) and having some equivalent to a forehand. Ball golf if also straight up harder. I'm also fairly minimalist so I see what you mean to some degree.
      I used to be in your camp myself. It's not about the role a comet or berg play in your bag- it's about what a comet or putter teaches you about touch in general. You can def do the same shot with a comet that you can do with a berg, but it would be pretty rare to see someone do with a berg what you could do with a comet. The berg is reliable- sure but guys are out there forcing lines with it. This is true with bh but especially with FH. I use a pig- but same idea. I also use a comet and a mako- both of which you can learn to push further on hyzer than a pig/berg/harp/ect. I mean there's a lot of reasons you would throw a Fairway or a putter. For example, I want less ground action or more, I want to make sure the shot turns over primarily or focus on the distance primarily.
      It's a crutch because you ultimately have to play worse to get better. Sure, if I went with a certain shot all the time I would master that shot for sure. But I'd kinda be a one trick poney. My 2 cents and you def. Can just ignore it man if it doesn't speak to you.

    • @JTygerAU
      @JTygerAU 4 місяці тому

      @@worc2187 yeah I mean…what you’re not getting is I’m not “forcing lines” with it. I have a bunch of discs I used mods and down and then very few molds above that. Really just run with TL3, Firebird, Roadrunner, Destroyer. - multples mainly for backups and more/less wind. That’s 90% of driver disc throws. But I have like 4 mids (one of which is an MVP Uplink) multiple approach discs, a glitch I’ll pull out for certain shots, several Envy’s I’ll use for different flights. By no means am I “forcing lines”. What your comment makes me think about is I’ve never watched anyone else play with a Berg. Maybe there’s a subset of people using it as a do it all utility disc, which would make what you’re saying make more sense.
      Ball golf is “harder” for sure (to make par), but I really think the idea that I have discs for every available line within 200 is super important for me because I play in THICK woods and you have to be creative and have a lot of tools in the bag to get out there with par if you get off track. Idk - works for me, and I guess I just enjoy the creativity of working slower discs on a bunch of different lines.
      The overall point of this, is I just don’t understand the hate for what is a really good tool potentially on a channel that’s targeting beginners. That was really the point of my original comment.

    • @worc2187
      @worc2187 4 місяці тому

      Hey I feel you- it wasn't an accusation. Idk why or how you throw the berg. It's more of a general thing.
      As someone who plays in the woods (NE here) I'm totally happy to use a judge in the thick of it (I carry one that is beat to hell and one that is newer). The hyzer with low glide is one of the most reliable shots in disc golf (and important) so the berg has a use that is totally legit.
      Like if people are that attached to 1 disc you're def limiting your game anyway. Like who cares if someone doesn't love the comet?
      Look here it is: if you can't throw your putter or understable mid on hyzer, then put the berg down and learn to throw a not torque resistant putter.
      I started out flexing destroyers on FH. I wasted a lot of time not becoming a more versatile player.
