One interesting feature on the trigger that you may not know is that the M12 pinner has an electronic time-out on the secondary trigger. If the trigger is held down for more than 40-seconds and NOT fired the tool will shut off and you will need to recycle the trigger to activate it.
I think this is a great feature but the time should be reduced to 20 seconds.
Nice Features Not Easily Noticed:
If you look too quickly you’ll miss some nice features on this pinner.
Magazine Magnet
When loading the pins into the magazine if you look close you’ll notice a small magnet. Missed by many, this magnet is your third hand when reloading or changing pin sizes.
Tapered Tank Design
Looking at the top of the tool you’ll see that the nitrogen tank tapers, back toward the front. This keeps the business end of the tool narrower and more compact, allowing better maneuverability, something we appreciate in a finishing tool.
Non-Marring Tips
Another nice feature is the non-mar contact tips. The reserve tip is clipped on the rear of the magazine. If you look closely at it you’ll notice it is a “half” tip. The half tip takes an already nicely designed front end of the tool and makes the tip area more visible. The half-tip is for the carpenters that argue that the tip blocks their line of sight of the feed-lips. [the area where striker and pin feed-thru tool]
Depth of Drive
The M12 pin nailer has a tool-free depth of drive knob. This is something that I immediately noticed and appreciated since all of my pneumatic pinners needed an Allen wrench to move the nose back and forth. The depth knob is faster to dial in and obviously way easier.
Dryfire Lockout
The M12 pin nailer has a magazine reload indicator which I never seem to notice or look at. It does have a dry-fire lockout which is useful for prevent unnecessary holes in our workpieces.
Gas Tank - Power
The pin nailer, and all of our Nitrogen Gas Spring Nailers, work very similarly.
The cylinder has two parts that make up the tank: an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder. The space between those two cylinders is the area that is filled with Nitrogen. The striker & piston travel within the inner cylinder, using the pressure in the tank to provide driving power for the fastener. Each style of nailer (23GA, 18GA, Framing Nailers, etc.) are filled to different PSI’s.
There are two reasons we use nitrogen instead of compressed air, and limiting condensation is one of them.
1) when we fill the tools, during manufacturing or service, we pull a vacuum so the tank is completely cleared. We then fill them with 99.9% nitrogen so there’s essentially no condensation in it. We could do this with air using a compressor that separates condensation/moisture out of the air, but it’s easier and more effective & repeatable to do this with pure 99.9% nitrogen
2) second reason we use nitrogen is to limit any seal permeation. Any sealed, pressurized vessel will experience some small level of permeation through the seals over time. Nitrogen permeates much slower than air. By using nitrogen we can keep permeation so minute that it would be many years (if ever) that a user/owner would ever experience degraded performance due to permeation
ThxThis pin nailer, comes with a 3-year warranty and was designed to provide a user 3-4 years of heavy use without the need for service. That should equate to 50 to 70k barads installed.
Runtime
Runtime: This pin nailer can fire up to 750 pin nails, per charge, when equipped with a 1.5 Ah battery.
LED Light
In the past, I’d scoff at the idea of light on a nailer, especially a pinner. After using this on a project with mediocre lighting, I actually have to eat crow and admit that I really like this feature.

Using the Milwaukee M12 23 Gauge Pin Nailer
I used the M12 pin nailer in the shop building a cabinet to cover a stove hood and also on a cabinet crown molding installation project.
Besides the fact that this pinner is cordless and eliminates the hose, there are three things I like about this pin nailer:
1. Well-Designed: items like the depth or drive, magazine magnet, LED light show thought and care went into this design. They look at this tool, innovated it, and tried to eliminate pain points for the user.
2. Precision: It’s accurate! The double-action trigger and non-marring precision point tip provide sequential driving and accurate pin placement, with a great line of sight.
3. Performance: When I think of performance I’m thinking of size, weight, and power. The M12 pinner is pretty close to my pneumatic nailer in size and punches pins into hardwood like nobody’s business.

I prefer my cadex 23ga brad nailer. I keep looking @ other 23ga specs, but i think cadex's patent must still be viable.
The cadex can shoot headless pins or brad nails up to 2 1/2" long. The brad nails are suprisingliy strong too. Its way better holding power than a headless pin.
I had one recomended to me by an old colleague that i called up a few years ago for a consultation on a wood staircase. Dudes a master woodworker @ this point.
Got mine last week, I love it! The think is a beast, have put about 250 pins through it so far, not one has been left proud. Milwaukee hit a home run with this cordless pin nailer.

The depth of drive adjustment on this tool is something I've never seen on ANY 23ga. FINALLY SOMEONE DID IT.
On air tools, an adjuster like that is an add on that bolts in with the air connection. Its pretty much required if your running multiple guns off 1 air compressor.
The one thing i never see on any 23gs except my cadex, is the ability to use 23ga headed brad nails. They must have a patent or something. It also shoots up to 2 1/2" like the big boy finish nailers. It was a game changer for me.
I just picked up a m18 fuel 15ga V2, i do like the battery deal. 10x faster setup. Feels like a framing nailer compared to the 23ga! I like the grip rite nails too, they have a half round head for better holding power, instead of a t shape.
I have had this nailer for 3 months and I learned a couple things from this video that I did not know. I don’t miss using my air pinner at all!

It’s firing 35 mm in the hardest Timbers I use , fully set , no problem at all!
Admittedly I only just got it and haven’t used it on an actual job, but my gut says it will be awesome!
I just hope I don’t have any issues with the firing pin or nitrogen, I’m planning to use stainless steel pins too

Thanks for the review Rob! Man am I excited about this pin nailer. Last year I invested in the 18 Gauge Gen 2 Brad Nailer, which I really like. The pin nailer will compliment it. I’m hoping to retire the compressor and air nail guns!
I’m just a weekend DIYer that occasionally use a pin nailer so my compressor-tethered Bostich will do, but it’s definitely worth the switch for anyone if you’re using it a lot.
Been waiting for you to review this, glad it’s all positive. Love the 12V staple gun, paid for itself the very first gig. Had to believe the pin nailer would be just as awesome, got to get one pronto.
Mine's coming next week. That leaves the 10 gauge nailer as the very last of my tools that needs a compressor. Happy days.

I have a Ryobi 23 gauge pin nailer, and though it’s a bitter bigger than the pneumatics, it does a solid job for the price. It, too, is cordless. It’s just a solid pin nailer.
It’s also about 4 x the size of the new Milwaukee Pin Nailer! I’ve heard good things about the Ryobi, but I’d bet you $100 that you’d mothball the Ryobi nailer after using the Milwaukee for 15 minutes. There’s just no comparison...
@@martylucas8557 sure there’s a comparison. You just gave it! You believe that due to the Milwaukee being smaller that people will spend the extra money. The Ryobi is cheaper, but a touch heavier. I’d like to see a few more cordless pin nailers hit the market, but we’ll see how it all goes.
@@martylucas8557 That would depend a lot on usage. A carpenter who uses the nailer almost daily would be better off with the milwaukee, but is it worth the extra cost if you only use it a few times a year?
@@multidinero, other manufacturers have cordless 23 Gauge Pin Nailer, e.g. Makita, Metabo, etc. The problem is that they suck, they’re not consistent in operation.
If you’re not in the M12 platform this might be a good segue.
There’s really no reason to wait around for other manufacturers to figure it out. How long will that take? Besides you’re probably not going to be on the same platform.
Milwaukee has it figured out with the nailers. Their nitrogen charged delivery system is a way better design than Dewalt’s flywheel, besides they probably couldn’t use that system in a smaller tool. Just look at the size of the head on their 18 gauge Brad nailer.
It just comes down to, do you want to spend an additional $200-$250 for a superior designed, reduced footprint and enhanced/consistent delivery system...or not. Because I doubt anything better will be coming out anytime soon.
@@huejanus5505, I guess that depends on the individual. To me it’s worth it! I’m currently remodeling, putting in new flooring, then baseboard molding and quarter round. In addition, I have factory painted cabinet molding to nail up.
Even if I only used it once or twice a year it would be way better than dragging out the compressor, firing it up, then using my Ridgid 23 gauge nailer!!
I took back my Ryobi 18 Gauge Nailer. Getting back the $100 I spent on it. Then I used the hack to get the Milwaukee Fuel Gen 2 M18 Brad Nailer, which was on promotion with an 8 amp HO battery. After returning the battery, then applying the $100 from returning the Ryobi nailer, I ended up paying an additional $55 for the Milwaukee Gen 2 Brad Nailer. It has definitely been a game changer for me.
Anyway...I’m really into acquiring nice tools to get the jobs done. It’s definitely with it to me.

Who won't love this milwaukee really put their utter thoughts into this, i have tried this on hard woods thinking after several shots at least 1 will remain above the surface but never happened ,,,,,,,,,,man oh man i love this little red monster,,, it's light and really solid makes me feel their next upgrade can down-size the m18 gen 2 brad like this would even be a blessing

Great review! I l purchased the 18 guage version 2 months ago and it works great! Much better than the Ryobi where I had to dry fire it 20 to 40 times before it would it would actually shoot a nail. And for punch work, an airless nailer saves alot of time and frustration. I've watched one other review on this tool on you tube, but was waiting for another review since it's a fairly new addition to the Milwaukee line. Glad I came across yours. And if you already use Milwaukee products and have the same battery configuration on different levels, makes sense to stick with them. I am glad to hear that they include battery and charger with the nailer. It's been piece meal with some their tools for awhile.

The best 23ga pin nailer is made by cadex. It shoots both headless pins and a proprietary 23ga brad nail with a head. It shoots from 5/8 to 2 1/2" maybe even 1/2". Their nails are strong too.
Looks like a great pin nailer. My Hitachi / Metabo feels & sounds clunky. I thought Milwaukee would come out with a Fuel version in the future. (So, I waited on pulling the trigger on that purchase.) Like they did for the compact band saw.

Bought this tool. Happy with it though I must say I find myself waiting for the tool to be ready to drive the next shot, unlike it's bigger brothers 18 gauge and up. Maybe a fuel version in the future that could hit the 3 nails a second mark would be worth doing.

I watched quite a few reviews of this pin nailer before I bought one. This thing is huge compared to my pneumatic porter cable pinner. The one I bought jammed before I fired the 10th pin...I'm quite disappointed. It's going back.

Nothing bad to say about this nailer easy to hide the holes and perfect to hold small filler material and delicate shoe definitely worth the money
I got my first one about 3 weeks ago , overall I love it but , we still find ourselves digging out a Grex gun because of one major misgiving. By FAR our biggest complaint is that it shoots only up to 1 3/8" pins. Our Grex cordless and air both shoot 2" pins and there are so many times that extra 5/8" makes a huge difference with what we use them for. So we still have to smell gas from the Grex gun when we need it. Second problem is the little tips easily fall off of ours so know they will be getting lost a lot, and knowing Milwaukee they will want $20 bucks a tip or more. I hadn't even noticed the time out feature yet because who pushes a tip down for 40 seconds getting ready to shoot. So far other than that we love em so far. Second one arrived a few days ago. Milwaukee,,,, make a 2" model though.
What are you using 2” pins for? I’ve never run across a need for ones bigger than 1 3/8.

I knew about every feature on the Milwaukee Pin Nailer months ago. If I would’ve been able to get my hands on one I would’ve had it out of the box using it! Familiarizing myself with the nailer and associated feature set.
You do know that they aren’t generally available until April 15th, right? The only people getting one early are those that’ve recently placed a preorder or those that have a UA-cam Tool Channel and had one sent to them by the manufacturer.

Great, my reservation with any cordless tool is interoperability. Once you decide on a brand you're stuck to have compatability. I use Ryobi One plus because battery is sane for all. I still have DeWalt 18 volt drill. Bosch and B$D small cordless but all oem unique power. I was able to rebuild my old Nixa 18v DeWalt batteries with NIMH Batts to keep same charger and keep it running.

So what happens after 3 to 4 years? Will the loss of nitrogen completely make the tool unusable? Can it be serviced? I'm just a DIY / weekender so I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade.
For five years and a cordless tool is pretty much a lifespan, that’s the price you pay for the cordless convenience. If it’s not something you’re willing to do stick with a corded tool

We have 4 in the company we work. Great guns. But at this moment 3 of them have the nail driver chipped. Bad news is I’m in Europe and they can’t be fixed here.We are stuck with them. Maybe a good upgrade will be a stronger tip. We use them in oak. A lot of oak.

Nice. One day it might come the the UK. Wonder if Milwaukee offer a service to re-gas it after a while. HiKOKI did that for my 16g one. It was losing power after a year and they said there's a little valve on board and it can be re pressurised. Came back shooting like new.

Could you please tell me more about regasing the hikoki please. Have the framer which is great but the 16g seems really under powered now. I've had it for almost 2 years. Never new they could be regassed. What did it cost? Thanks in advance

After watching your review,I ordered one.Perfect for the smaller trim work I like to do.
No noisy compressor,no hose to trip over,no storage issues for the hose(how many times have you developed a hole in the hose because it got caught on an object in your shop or on a job site?)
3:25 my 50€ Einhell pin nailer has that toolless depth adjustment knob, I thought it was standard. It‘s pneumatic though, not electric.

The reason I didn't buy one at Home Depot because they simply did not sell the 23 gauge nails. They have plenty of 15, 16 and 18 gauge plus numerous staple options but not one box of 23 gauge. That's Home Depot for you....understaffed and under stocked
I've never had the need for a pin nailer. Brads seem to be small enough for my use.
Yeah, it's a very specific nailer. Basically only for cabinetry.
For the home user, who will rarely use it, but will with projects here and there. Is there a possibility that that nitrogen will just run out even with minimal use?
I’m putting the quarter round back in my mother’s home along the baseboards. Is this adequate to not have to come back with any other heavier nails?

I'm thinking they can be used to shoot broken fractured bones back together again and the pins just stay in because of their small size they're not going to fracture bone

I bought a skin only version shortly after it came out, and have been waiting for the US Postal Service to start shipping to Australia again ever since… I would love to have a play with this thing, but sadly mine lives in a closet in my brother’s house in Detroit. :(

After much waiting, I finally have this pinner, and it's great. One thing I notice which may be nothing... I seem to have many more pins go askew and poke out the side one way or the other. Maybe it's coincidence, or maybe I'm just noticing everything with a new tool in a way I don't with my tried & true pneumatic pinner.
But I noticed several going askew in the vid too... do you have the impression you're getting more pokey outies with the new M12?
Will it take 23Ga brad nails with heads? My current pin nailer shoots both head-ed and headless.

The biggest question I have is how long this pin nailer or other Milwaukee Gen II nailers that uses nitrogen will hold up in terms of very light use and shelf life. I don't want to replace something I'm not using a lot every 3-5 years. lets say I only used 10,000 nails over a period of 5 years. Would the tool lose more pressure through age not just nails fired. I heard these things have seals too that can loosen if they get too hot. That's the biggest most important question I can think of when debating whether to buy these nailers. Not everyone will use it heavily.

Pin nailer, stapler, impact driver, jigsaw, and the 4-head install drill. Now Milwaukee has to figure out how to make a 12v router and you can run a cabinetry and furniture business from a backpack.

I see there are indoor/outdoor categories, but I see reviews for some brands suggest they use a much softer material and that leads to more jamming etc, while other brands are harder material or stainless, and less prone to jamming. Are there specific reasons for using different material nails? Colors? Etc?

I tried the Metabo because they are on sale for 99 at Lowes. Horrible, I returned it the next day. Is the Milwaukee the best cordless on the market? Are any of the others worth looking at?
I see you use headless pins with the nailer having no difficulty setting the nails.

How long do you figure it would last with light use? I am a hobbyist and do not expect to put it through heavy use. But I do not want to go buying a new one every few years because the gas got screwed up.

At 1:55, how thick is that wood that you're pinning on the edge? You mention that the gas charge can fade, can it ever be recharged by an authorized repair center? I don't expect to use it heavily, is it still going to be usable in 6 years?
Maybe 1/4-3/8”. Yes it can be recharged at service center

I am laying vinyl plank floor in multiple rooms, then plan to run shoe moulding around the edges, would this M12 Pin nailer be good for that work or would you use a brad nailer?
