YOU GUYS WENT THERE!! ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT ME Here’s a personal video reacting to assumptions about me. I made this to mark reaching us 250K subscribers together with a sit down chit chat video. I think of the goals we all want like how to be independent (Mum put that in me) and how to have a successful career (something I struggled with for ages). I really wondered how to work as a freelancer versus how to be an influencer because there was no such thing (i detest that word anyway). I hope at the end you realize it was about how to find your passion regardless of what that looks like. I touch on my relationship but this is not a video on how to find your soulmate or how to have a healthy relationship. My channel is not about that! If you want the best relationship advice, that’s a different UA-camr!

Never apologize for what you have. You don't owe anyone an explanation or an apology for why you have a Kelly bag or a big house, etc. You've EARNED it. Period.
Karen has earned it, but many folks inherit wealth. I'm not surprised people assumed it - its hard to know the work that goes behind the scenes. Also, personally I hate when people say "you deserve it! you earned it!". Unfortunately we don't live in a society where more work or more important work pays more. The most hard working and important members of society such as nurses, teachers, factory workers are the ones that earn the least, while some CEOs and landlords get tons of money for barely moving a finger.
@@purpleworm4725 Exactly. Tons of people “slave away” at horrible and dangerous jobs but are hardly wealthy. Yet I can work the same hours at a nice desk job but make twice as much? It’s all rather silly. To that end, my parents are blue collar workers (construction and seamstress) who’ve earned their wealth by being landlords. A nice F-you to society ;) It helped that my dad knows construction and could parcel out part of our home into a separate rental unit. But, back to your comment, hear hear! The world doesn’t operate on a meritocracy. If it did, the salary distribution would change quite drastically.
@@SL-lz9jr Still , nobody is going to be happy counting the coin of people that they do not know. Badmind pays even less than a Blue Collar job.
@@purpleworm4725 she's not one of those people. It's tacky to pocket watch other people and to make assumptions about them. Especially tacky to do that to a black woman. It's essentially saying she couldn't possibly do it on her own. She does deserve whatever she has. It's unfortunate those groups of people don't make what they deserve but it's not on Karen. a content creator to change that. Use the time you had to type that paragraph to hit up your local politicians to express your frustration and seek change.
People never jealous of work it takes get your treasures just fact you have them. I watch you for Style not fashion tips. Your Style is Timeless fashion is not. Keep it up . love your glow up although we already got you. 💕
From the interaction I see between you and Michael, I assumed you married him for nothing but love. I love him and the way he loves you ❤️ #hesakeeper
Agree. You can see they truly enjoy each other. Another lovely reason to watch this channel :)
I love the story of how they met it’s magical
Yes!!!
Yes💗💙
Arvin!💕💕💕
When you hit 1M we will have a party all over the world . WE love you.
Ha! ok 1M don't hold your breath! I love you lot right back!!!
That day is coming !!! What will we wear ???
YAAAAAS !!!
I like that idea. That would be so fun.

Karen I am an O.G. follower. It's the British accent that makes Americans assume that you come from money or have money. And your impeccable taste and style. Just because it looks easy doesn't mean it is or was. PROPS TO Michael. he is a very self confident, supportive man and partner.
Yes, your mother told/taught you correctly-always, always have your own money!!! Congratulations on 251 thousand- well deserved!
I think that's a Caribbean thing in general. My mom always told us don't ever go out without cab fare to get back, always bring money to a restaurant, and never put yourself in a situation where you have to depend on a man for everything.
I believe you’re right😳. My mum is from Surinam and she taught me same.
@@deLORAX3573 my mom is from USA and told mr same thing
Speaking as a middle-aged psychotherapist woman, I am SO glad that you are around and about and accessible to young people as an awesome & special role model (and Micheal, too - it's so lovely to be able to observe how you two vibe together!)! Thank you for being & doing you & for all that you share with your growing audience & I hope to be fortunate enough to run into you on an NYC street one day!!
My mother gave me the same advice to always have your own money. She always had a private bank account, not in a sneaky way from her second husband, but because she needed something that was just hers. I think it was because her first husband (my father) died unexpectedly when they were both twenty-six leaving her with four small children to take care of. She stashed money away for years to make sure she could always take care of herself and her kids.
Agree. Women need to have their own bank account to fall back on if they need it. Like when couples break up, if they have joint everything then it is harder.
‘What everyone is wearing’ is an international success. On the way to Trinidad the plane landed in St Lucia ❤️
It was so much fun learning about your background-didn't expect you to be so open, so deeply personal-respect and admire you all the more for it!
Audrey, are Trinidad borders open? My parents keep checking lol
Have fun❣️🇹🇹
When we can travel again, please do 'What are you wearing" videos wherever you go. London... Amsterdam... Milan... Tokyo...
That’s a good idea!
And Berlin!!!!🥳
That is a really awesome idea.
Cape Town!!
I’m surprised Vogue, Elle, or Vanity Fair hasn’t tapped her to cover cool street style. She’d be a star! ✨
Karen I cannot imagine you being in an abusive relationship, thank God you're out and found a fun, loving partner like Michael.
Every episode of "What Everyone Is Wearing in NY" is fantastic, but I do have a favorite moment. It's from 1 1/2 years ago, the summer of 2019 when at the end a beautifully dressed, charming little girl calls out to you over her shoulder "Happy Summer!" 🥰
I was so surprised that you are wearing a wig. I thought that was your hair. It looks good on you, and very natural. Thanks for sharing..
Wow me too but its amazing
Yes it's amazingly realistic and not even an expensive one.
What?😳
I have several of those units called La Jay and they are are half units under $20, lots of colors too.
So true about finances ! Never rely on a man! Listen up women YOU GOT THIS!
Yes have your own money he with a man or woman for LOVE it males your life complete but keep, your. money separate I alwaysnhave. WE do contributr yo big goals together.....buy our first retirement home, a 45ft sailboat, our second retirement home a 3,500sq ft home in paradise. Congratulations! Loved this intro-- You inspired me to just be ME on my videos my friend!!!!
Nobody asked...but wanted to say hello and you inspire me. ❤️
it's too hard to be someone else!!!! I love that you're more YOU now. I can see it!
Nobody ask but I enjoy you two sooo much..
Nobody asked but you i love you guys !!!
Omg it’s Arvin. Oh do a collab! Both of you with your brilliant fashion sense.
"You're the positive friend everyone wants." -- yep! yep! yep! We love you Karen! & Michael!
You guys dropped some GEMS 💎 in this episode. I am getting older and my dreams are starting to fade because the struggle of life is hard. Your story is inspirational and gives me a second wind.
Hi Roz. Ya getting older is a doozy. I’m in remission and life dreams seem further away like you said. That’s why people like Karen are great. Makes me feel like dressing great to please myself any given day. Even a little thing like that makes me feel more alive, feelin myself, feel like dancing which gives more energy to do some thing to live that dream. Here’s to you.
I am 73 and itmhas all, been a hell of a ride....I did so much better than I could have expected in life from a high school dropout to,a PhD academic career. From a small child crippled in leg braces whose mother abandonedmher at age three, my father died when I was 16 so zero financial support ....I got a job in a law office answering the phone, filing, and typing wills, deeds etc. Then a job as an admissions clerk in a hosptial, then a medical center then community college,,4yr college,,grad school. Then saving money, investing, retiring at 50...learning navigation and sailing so I could sail the Caribbean wiith my husband, then retiring in a trooical Latin American country and building a house and lifemhere, learning Spanish etc....lofe isnt over tiil its over...set yourself small doing short term goals and keep building ...dream dreams...they can become your longterm goals......life is so pecious, time is so precious, people we love are so precious.

If by sugar hubby they mean that Michael is rather sweet? sure, i agree with that XD People sometimes have the audacity to write the most insensitive shit to strangers
He is sweet bless him x
Honestly, I am not really into fashion/shoes but I watch just for Karen's great personality and entertainment. I appreciate the creative choices, discussion of colors/pairing, and lifestyle.

Girl you actually have international success, I'm watching you from Russia for quite long time, hi! :)
You know what Karen and Michael I have tears in my eyes, when people see what you two have accumulated through years of hard work and sweat , like renovating your home , it takes timing, planning and most of all working together as a couple. Only than can you see the fruits of your labor. You two are a shining star and a prime example to others of what they can accomplish. I Love seeing you two elevate yourselves, no matter what you choose to do or continue to strive for. Please continue to feature What You’re Wearing. God Bless the two of you.
Such a sweet comment I echo this sentiment ❤
Not very good at at getting things down in writing but agree with all you said, well said.xx
KarenBritChick is the best! HATERS BACK OFF !
I totally understand financially hard times. There was a time when I only had $5 to my name and I had to decide whether to put gas in the car or eat. I think those times develop us....stretch us....to becoming stronger people. I worked incredibly hard ....for years....and like you now have a job I love...that fulfills my soul....and pays very well. I don't regret that hard time....I look at them as blessings....to get me where I am today.
I so enjoy your channel and really loved getting to know your story better.
exactly what you said. I've definitely hit rock bottom of seeing my bank account number go down and down and down and down and.... you know the rest. It's a very as you say developing time when you look back at it.
I was caught in the Texas storm alone in my car for five days. I had a small amount of food and watch since I was coming back from shopping when the storm hit and I couldn't get home. I had no one to help me. This taught me resilience and I prayed. This storm strengthened me.
@@theresahenderson3534 I am so glad you are ok. I live in Texas also. I fractured my foot trying to get to work during the storm. I work in a hospital ER and Labor and Delivery. I am so grateful and humbled that God kept us safe🙏
@@theresahenderson3534 What a terrifying experience! Glad you made it through. I hope the rest of the year only brings you happiness.
Growing up poor and raised by a widow also helped shaped my values. I don't take anything for granted. Those survival skills I learned sure helps when the economy takes a dive now and then. I instinctively know what I need to do to keep my family fed and sheltered.
Hi Karen your "what people are wearing in New York " should be a syndicated TV show. You control it not the TV station.
You're so right Karen. Women these days are handling their finances and are fully independent. We respect you for your independence and hard work and love that Michael supports you in other ways not as a sugar hubby. 😍❤️.
Congrats Karen, you're the only fashion UA-camr i watch consistently, thanks for showing and educating us on all things fashion
“i mean, i’m not just going to wear batty riders” - i HOWLED!

Congratulations on the milestone!! It's well deserved. Love these videos. I have been following since those early blog days. St. Lucia is awesome!! Got married there. The highlight of one of my trips there, was meeting you during Carnival 2 years ago. You were so warm, kind, and gracious, while I sobbed like a baby. It's not every day that one meets their fashion crush who looked like this island goddess from a Bond movie.....freakin' priceless. You and Michael compliment each other beautifully. Wishing you both continued success. Must be a Caribbean momma thing...the money advice your Mom gave you, my Trini Mom gave me similar advice.
I remember you very well how special was that?!!!!! Running into each other!! I’ll never forget it 😍
Omg! Than you for sharing Q and A with us. Personal things aren’t always easy to talk about. I love you and Michael’s love! Keep up the good work!
Yay!!!! 250K subbies. You deserve it and many more ❤💚💜💙💛
Karen, you are everything. I love your channel and never assumed anything about who you are behind the scenes. Your personality speaks for itself.
I totally agree with LibbyKitty above.
What you have been through and come out on top is inspiring! Thank you for sharing about your abusive relationship...Please share how you got out!
I absolutely adore you. I really appreciate you opening up like this. The hustle is real!
i love how down to earth you are, and i love your sense of humour and your honesty, trying to figure out yourself and what you trully like.

You're so authentically you and that is extremely refreshing. You deserve more subscribers and I see big things happening for you. Great video!
That you two are such a team has, I'm sure made the bumps a bit softer. I'm truly happy for your success and look forward to much more!❤️
I’m literally going to utilize the Swan analogy! I discovered your channel at when I was laid off from my job. The algorithm lead me to your job exit story 4-years ago and I loved your What Everyone is Wearing in New York vlogs since!
I agree us women are strong and capable of achieving great things on our own.
So glad your channel was put in front of me when I logged on today. This vlog gave me a reason to subscribe. You did a good job of being vulnerable.
I love your channel. Your warmth and authenticity is infectious and your success well deserved.
Seeing how you two look at each other makes me all teary in the best way. Love it...

This is just another reason why I love you so much and I have never met you! You and your husband are such great people you can tell even through these videos! One of the reasons I watch your videos is because of your personality, you are a very friendly honest, and straight-forward person. Love and continue to watch your channel in the future.
The rawness you and Michael choose to show is refreshing. You two have inspired me...Thank You

I find you so beautiful and was absolutely blown away by the image of you without make up and with your natural hair...so so gorgeous!!
I love how real you are 😭 thank you so much for these videos.
I feel so inspired by your story financially speaking, you just had your blog and insta! I am challenged after I had a good life with an illness I have had an burn out and my body collapsed and diagnosed with a bone injury in my hips, it got chronic because only help from doctors were pain medication. So I really have to help myself by discovering how to heal that injury with the right kind of exercises, I already made alot of mistakes and made it worse but after 4 years with this I got to know somebody who has an explanation and a way to come out of it. I truly thank my parents for helping me out since years, it is hard to be dependent partly on your parents with 44 but thats life sometimes. Before that I was travelling fulltime and living by the ocean 6 years in a beautiful house, thati completely gone, forever!
Love love love this video. Do more Q&A’s so your audience can get to know you better. Yes, women need to be financially independent my mom taught me the same. Sending lots of love from Jersey🤍🤍🤍
I can totally understand "i was dieing a slow dead on the 9 tot 5 job" bc your a creative person in a way , and i had that too.
When i still lived home with my mom, i wasn't a good student so my mom said" then you need to look at work, whatever it is you take it " i was okay i can make my money , I finally can stop school (i was 17 ) and i was on the hunt , every interimbureau was signed up for every job, I was going to shops for work (from cleaner to sales,..) & then i got a job in a hotel for cleaning rooms, then a job in a factory, then in a lingerielshop, (they were all temperary jobs if someone was sick for a long period, or pregnant,...) and then i worked back in the same factory but now i got a change for longterm, I think that was arround my 22 /23 y old. But bc it was the same thing 8h long every day, 5 day's ! In the beginning i was " okay i make money, and if you got a high % , like say : that they the computer would give us 67% , if you reatched that or over that you get that payed on top of the month salary. & in the first few months i was going for it . But then that stopted, I wasn't happy, but i couldn't give myself the " lets go Carmen you can do it see what you make monthly " anymore, I felt in a black hole. I was pregnant at the time,.. then i got a very heavy depression,...
Now last y at 36 after loosing familymembers in less then 2 weeks, I was done with everything, i thought every day "f.. this depression, f... these anxciety atacks,
I'm going for it , don't now how, or when but i will make my dream come true
And now i'm a stylist and i'm making it happen with ups en downs but i am doing it, i'm proud at myself, my daughter is proud of me (not for being a stylist but that i make my dream come true & fighting for it
Karen congratulations on 200k
