I feel you on all this. Ridley's days as a great director are done. That just pure fact. But the real question is did you get the Colosseum popcorn bucket because that thing rules.
First of Denzel was miscast. You should know this because I said so. Second, Macrius was race-swapped. He wasn't black. Third, there was never a black emperor. There were emperor's from North Africa. But North African isn't black. Plus, the emperors from North Africa were never considered anything else but Roman.
@ Denzel will never be a “miscast” he was the best actor in the film. There are problems I had with the film but saying it’s the same as gladiator is disingenuous.
@ For your information all of Africa is Black there were no whites and Arabs in North Africa there were black people. You need to learn history the Arabs came into North Africa centuries later.
Washington always has a great presence on the screen but he was miscast in this role. Wrong actor. Besides, the plot was totally ridiculous especially when in less than 2 hours he becomes a Roman Emperor. Comical, to say the least.
Commodus (to Lucilla): "How was it seeing him [Maximus] again?" If Lucius was Maximus son, Commodus would know it and use that to his advantage... ----- Lets look at two other scenes in Gladiator----- Maximus: "I was sad to hear of your husband's death. I mourned him."
Prometheus destroyed Ridley Scott's legacy. He is incapable of making a movie that respects the fans any more. I truly believe he despises the fans of his movies with a fierce passion. Everything since then has been a predictable disappointment because he meant it to be. He fng hates us.
We don´t get to see Maximus with his wife and son in the first film, but it´s so well constructed and acted by Russell Crowe that we feel the distance, the emotional connection and the pain of his loss.
The fact that he would rather turn down Rome to be with them, and later rode that much distance to save them, gives you all you need on how much he loved his family.
Ridley Scott should've retired a decade ago. Some of his best films have come and gone, but it seems like Hollywood is quite happy getting Scott to direct films that are car crash monstrosities. Ever since Scott took control of the Alien franchise, his films have been on a downward trajectory, and studios are quite willing to subsidise his over inflated ego with multi-millions. There's nothing worse than watching a director being given endless money to produce total turgid crap.
this is one of the most useless, senseless, emotionless, meaningless, artless and brainless catastrophes i have ever seen in theatre. it is practically the death of cinema. if hacks like bay, boll or emmerich had made that film, it would have been deemed quite ok. drivel as usual. but from a ridley scott? this is really devastating. what is it with him? can´t he read scripts, let alone write them. can´t he direct anymore. he boasts he knows where to put his eleven cameras. yeah? in the most boring places there are. study spielberg for camera blocking for a change, if you have 200 million dollars at your bloody disposal. how can one make such a bad film with so much money. and don´t come with your storyboards "that thick", ridley. a fifteen year old can block and cover scenes like that from the hips. get rid of your boards and get inspired by the moment. this film is like an overblown soap opera. take away the costuming, the VFX and the set dec and all you got is a soap. watching that film is a total waste of money. i should have spent the hours and the cash with something far more rewarding.... - by the way: the most uninspired acting and casting i have seen in a long time. denzels performance is practically lackluster overacting, while pascal and mescal (who is who?) are basically non-entities in that film. no story. no character change. no tension. no suspense. no real gripping action. no real twistes and surprises. no development in character. no emotion. instead some woke idiocies like female warriors and male to male hand kissing. Wow! At least Scott manages to fulfill his woke check list.
😳 … Ridleyman Bad - and on opening day, God descended in the form of Kubrictron. LUCIUS BEING MAXIMUS' SON...IN THE FIRST MOVIE LUCILLA AND MAX SHARE THAT THEIR KIDS ARE NEARLY 8 YEARS OLD RESPECTIVELY. THAT MEANS THAT BOTH WOMEN WERE PREGNANT ROUGHLY AROUND THE SAME TIME. THAT WOULD MEAN MAX WAS CHEATING ON HIS WIFE OR CHEATING ON LUCILLA. FURTHERMORE, THE FIRST MOVIE LETS US KNOW THEY KNEW EACH OTHER AS TEENS OR KIDS AND HAD STOPPED SEEING EACH OTHER SINCE THOSE DAYS. IF LUCILLA HAD GOTTEN PREGNANT IN HER TEENS THE KID WOULD BE MUCH OLDER THAN MAXIMUS CHILD.
There's only one way to save this film: compare it to Megalopolis. Because in every way, Coppolla destroys HIS legacy far worse in a movie that cost far more and was incredibly worse.
I'll add some od notes I made, and commented on other reviews, so I'll just paste them: (spoilers) *Why take revenge on the general if Lucius' wife was killed in a fair fight? It did not have the impact of the murder of Maximus' wife who was a civilian. Plus, Lucius seems to forget the wife very fast,as he laughs at stupid jokes after monkey fight and is generally in good mood. **Lucius has zero injuries after being beaten in face with spiked gloves by the guard. Also, he is fine during naval battle even though he had been made to row all day before (why was even the guard allowed to bully Macrinus champion???). *it would have been nice if the public found out who “Hanno ”was before the scene how he was supposed to defend his mother. Then they could rebel and the scene would have gained depth and epicness. *Lucius had weak prep speeches, except for the final one. *Why would Macrinus kill Lucilla? As a woman she had no claim to the throne. Plus he knew Hanno is most probably Lucius and would go after him for revenge. *Final fight with Macrinus very below expectations, he was not a worthy opponent for Lucius, an old guy long past his fighting days and splendor *What did Macrynus want to do with Roman Empire , what was his plan after killing current authorities? Should we root for him or not? If Lucius wins, how are we sure he will be good emperor , he has zero experience in ruling.
I was just happy to see a film with male leads who weren't belittled by females or a child's superhero film that is for adults. What's confusing for me is that the same people who love these superhero, utter nonsense are saying, 'This' is a terrible film. ...? Did anyone expect this to be even 'almost' as good as the original? Maybe the same people who expected a fair boxing match between Tyson and that other guy.... This sequel is a lot better than 90% of the utter nonsense that's released these days..

I loved everything about Gladiator II & being that Lucilla & Maximus at one point In time did have something going on as it was said in the first film, it makes sense why Ridley Scott based it around Lucius being Maximus son. People are entitled to their opinions & what they choose to like & dislike, for me overall part II was amazing & I can’t wait to see what Ridley Scott has in store for the 3rd Gladiator🙌🏻💯‼️
I don't think you can even come close to saying this after he made the dumpster fire that was Napoleon. If anything Gladiator 2 redeemed him, it's his best movie since Kingdom of Heaven.
Ridley deciding to shoot 'Gladiator 2' on a digital camera for the sake of convenience gives it that actors-doing-cosplay look like a Netflix streaming release compared to the gorgeous cinematic visual quality of kodak and eastman 35mm used for the first one where it actually looks like a professional studio movie from the big 5. The other letdown is that you don't really end up caring about any of the characters so you're not that emotionally engaged in the story unfortunately. Crowe actually looks like a regal war veteran / Roman general rather than a guy you would see down at your local gym and his performance manages to provoke you emotionally. The first 2 minute entrance alone into the colosseum before Maximus instructs the gladiators to all stick together just for sheer thrill-factor, soundtrack, tension building, visual quality..etc is far better than the entirety of Gladiator 2 (5.5). Ridley is great when he has a good script to work with (The Last Duel / The Martian) but his directorial style can't elevate a lacklustre script in the same way that someone like Spielberg can.
All modern movies are shot digitally, nobody shots on Film because it's too expensive nowadays, next Danny Boyle movie was shot on a friggin iphone. Lmao what stupid comment jeez....

@@thunderboltproductionsshpk A lot of those movies are actually from this year so I guess you don't watch that many movies because Kodak's visual quality is instantly recognizable. Even Ridley's cinematographer John Mathieson just came out publicly saying the reason he couldn't make the sequel look as good as the first one was because of Ridley's new rushed and lazy style where he gets coverage from multiple angles with digicams and then moves on after only a couple of takes (that explains why many scenes in the sequel look like they are BTS footage), whereas on the 1st one, he was given the time to light each individual shot. The lighting and cinematography was definitely a big part of the original's tone.
@thetalentof i don't usually watch crap movies, so yeah, glad you watched them dude. Also the John Mathieson interview was intentionally edited and both the video publisher and John came out saying those statements came from 2 different unrelated moments, so it's pretty useless to mention that.

Underrated channel, awesoem review. “My Gladiata” hehe
I subscribed after 2 minutes of listening and laughing, I will binge your whole catalog now
Hell yeah! Thank you. Enjoy it all and let me know how much I have improved your life.
I saw this last night only cause my nephew got me a tkt and tbh it was the worse crap ive seen in a long time! I mean why even waste the time & millions of dollars on something that you know wont even compare to the original Gladiator which is a classic masterpiece and basically shits on it entirely! What a horrible film! I dont know what Ridley was thinking and truly i think his time as being an amazing director is done! I know the writing also had a lot or most to do with how bad this film turned out but cmon just dont make it if its not right!
I feel you on all this. Ridley's days as a great director are done. That just pure fact. But the real question is did you get the Colosseum popcorn bucket because that thing rules.
Denzel is the right person for this cast and yes for everyone’s info there were 4 black emperors of Rome.
@ You don’t know what you’re talking about go back to watching game of thrones BS. Denzel was the best actor in the film.
Commodus (to Lucilla): "How was it seeing him [Maximus] again?"
If Lucius was Maximus son, Commodus would know it and use that to his advantage...
----- Lets look at two other scenes in Gladiator-----
Maximus: "I was sad to hear of your husband's death. I mourned him."
Gladiator 2: Times New Roman
Already a better story told here than the movie we got
Prometheus destroyed Ridley Scott's legacy. He is incapable of making a movie that respects the fans any more. I truly believe he despises the fans of his movies with a fierce passion. Everything since then has been a predictable disappointment because he meant it to be. He fng hates us.
He should of passed the reigns to Denis Villeneuve, like he did with Blade Runner.
Pedro needs to take a break from acting.
Is he the only working actor right now? The saturation is pathetic.
I don't know one person who's said "I need to see more Pedro Pascal" and if I did, I wouldn't be their friend for much longer.
Had people try to tell me this was a good movie and tell me they enjoyed it, made me feel crazy. This world does.
Bruh...I haven't laughed this hard in a long time... this is rad of a review.
I'm happy you enjoyed it. Thank you.
That kind of bullshit Movie i never еspect ...
Great review! keep it up!
You keep coming back and I'll keep doing them.
I was waiting for Hanno and Ravi to share a kiss. The only chemistry I saw on screen was between them.
Wait for the 4 hour directors cut where it's 2 hours of them making out
Another great video from Sensei Copa. Beta male energy in this film is enough for me not to see this
Hollywood is trying to get you to not think of Roman Empire daily. Do not let them win.
I just learned Sir Ridley is 87 years old which makes a lot of sense now.
“My Gladiata” 😂😂😂 LMAO
lol Mah man.
this is one of the most useless, senseless, emotionless, meaningless, artless and brainless catastrophes i have ever seen in theatre. it is practically the death of cinema. if hacks like bay, boll or emmerich had made that film, it would have been deemed quite ok. drivel as usual. but from a ridley scott? this is really devastating. what is it with him? can´t he read scripts, let alone write them. can´t he direct anymore. he boasts he knows where to put his eleven cameras. yeah? in the most boring places there are. study spielberg for camera blocking for a change, if you have 200 million dollars at your bloody disposal. how can one make such a bad film with so much money. and don´t come with your storyboards "that thick", ridley. a fifteen year old can block and cover scenes like that from the hips. get rid of your boards and get inspired by the moment. this film is like an overblown soap opera. take away the costuming, the VFX and the set dec and all you got is a soap. watching that film is a total waste of money. i should have spent the hours and the cash with something far more rewarding....
How is that man like Ridley can display so much talent in multiple films but in others it looks like Tommy Wiseau can run circles around him?
Ridley Scott has been phoning it in since Gladiator.
Now he´s apperently working on another alien-film. Scott have a serious potential of turning into Ed Wood in his late years.
He's honestly getting there. Might even hit Neil Breen status here soon
@@CopaExMachina Oh god.🤣
😳 … Ridleyman Bad
- and on opening day, God descended in the form of Kubrictron. Able to film from the advantageous pinions upon his divine ankles, hips and shoulders🪽 🙌 *may his cinematic glory grace the silver lining of the clouds above* 🙌
PS - I can’t get the Deadpool 💨 and ✨ out of my head … after see the Rhino-Maneuver. 🤦 he even does the clap. 😂
The Rhino was like, “I want to make a snowman!”
Nothing like throwing some Tony Montana snow at an agitated, 2 ton beast
@@CopaExMachina Coke Rhino 🦏 - blowing in this Christmas.
The film is almost a recap of the first movie except worst acting, miscasting, pacing problem, not convincing, no conviction, too long.
They tried to trash our boy Max's character. We must not allow them.
There's only one way to save this film: compare it to Megalopolis. Because in every way, Coppolla destroys HIS legacy far worse in a movie that cost far more and was incredibly worse.
Megalopolis did not cost more than Gladiator 2 but I don't doubt it sucks worse. I still got to see it to believe it lol.
Please please Hollywood come up with a new thought for a movie!!!! Ridley Scott, retire!!!!
I don't think Hollywood is capable of your simple request.
I'll add some od notes I made, and commented on other reviews, so I'll just paste them: (spoilers)
*Why take revenge on the general if Lucius' wife was killed in a fair fight?
*Final fight with Macrinus very below expectations, he was not a worthy opponent for Lucius, an old guy long past his fighting days and splendor
*What did Macrynus want to do with Roman Empire , what was his plan after killing current authorities? Should we root for him or not? If Lucius wins, how are we sure he will be good emperor , he has zero experience in ruling.
Prometheus destroyed that legacy a long time ago.
Back in the day Prometheus looked like a misstep but looking back it was actually the first step towards total decline.
It ruined the Alien franchise.
Ridley Scott was snorting crack when he made this wothless movie
The only explanation.
I mean, we can barely keep sharks alive in captivity. Let alone full-grown Bullsharks! 200 AD.
Ridley Scott has been destroying his legacy for the last 15 years. This movie is just insulting to the original movie.
Really funny video well done.
The Last Duel: everyone hated it, I think was great.
Napoleon: Ridley starting to shit on a great career
Gladiator 2: the movie nobody wanted is made, Ridley buried his credibility and legacy deep into mud, and no one wants anything more from him.
Well done Scotty!
It started before that with Promethius and then Alien Covenant, I'll never forgive him for that
At last someone telling the plain facts about Ridley Scott, one of the most overrated directors ever. I even think the original Gladiator movie was very overrated which used unsteady cam far too much.😊
I was just happy to get some ancient rome action on screen. Beats 99% of movies releasing in the last 5-10 years. But yeah, doesn't live up to those crisp early 2000s films. The roman soldiers were depicted really well, and the fights had some entertaining moments
I never agreed and disagreed with a comment harder in my life. lol GG. We need more ancient Rome on screen but you thought him fighting the entire zoo was good?
Washington always has a great presence on the screen but he was miscast in this role. Wrong actor. Besides, the plot was totally ridiculous especially when in less than 2 hours he becomes a Roman Emperor. Comical, to say the least.
It was a fantastic movie I think a lot of people want the old movie and old things back. It’s not a remake but making the story connect with the first one
Gladiator 2 is a remake. And a terrible remake at that.
@ it wasn’t a remake you just have to understand what a sequel is. In that time it was the same old in rome enslaved people get treated like trash and fight for power.
Great vid
Thank you
He is making shite nowadays.
Denzel playing Himself and Trying to become Rome Emperor.
Its Gladiator 2 . So Lets put Two Gladiator and Two Emperor.
How could Lucius even be Maximus' son, as he was already born and 12 yrs okd when Max first met him??????????
IKR it makes no sense.
just as good as one to me. denzel delivered. the twins were easy to hate. characters were complex. drama action. bad cgi. will watch again for sure ! loved the arrows. they were a character on their own.
Denzel did not do a good job here. Come on, pretend you're in fucking ancient Rome, not 1995 New York.
LOL he literally phoned it in from The Bronx
Napolean was a Warning that ridley scott was lost already.
Prometheus and Covenant were a clear sign of this.
@@anubusx Prometheus was Great while it was opposite in Covenant.
Great explanation
Thank you
Ridley Scott never had a legacy. Unless you ask... Ridley Scott.
All these Exodus: Gods and Kings stans are coming after me
Ridley Scott is destroying his own legacy. He’s way too old to be working. He’s also not made many good movies for 15 years
We need to get grandpa Scott to a nursing home ASAP
I really like the movie. But find this video incredibly intelligent and funny !!!! 😂😂😂
Two things can be true and the second part of your comment is more true than the first. 😂
Oh go on, everybody likes to have something to say, even if they know it's B.S.
......Fredo Style Kiss. 🤠
i wish he'd used no cameras instead of whatever f
This comment wins.
🤣I am imagining how this plays out and it is hilarious.
After watching this review, I can now make a better sandwich
Based and sandwich-pillled
I loved everything about Gladiator II & being that Lucilla & Maximus at one point In time did have something going on as it was said in the first film, it makes sense why Ridley Scott based it around Lucius being Maximus son. People are entitled to their opinions & what they choose to like & dislike, for me overall part II was amazing & I can’t wait to see what Ridley Scott has in store for the 3rd Gladiator🙌🏻💯‼️
Gladiator II objectively sucked. This is not an opinion.
😂
This movie was absolute cat piss. Can’t believe people got paid to make this.
You cracked me up lmao
It's my pleasure.
I don't think you can even come close to saying this after he made the dumpster fire that was Napoleon. If anything Gladiator 2 redeemed him, it's his best movie since Kingdom of Heaven.
Wasn’t gunna watch it anyway 🫡
Lucky!
I can't stand Pedro Pascal so I'm planning to save my money. Thank you for the thorough review.
Macrinus: what it do gladiatah
Sheeeit you know how it be dawg
Ship scenes seem straight out of Rise of an Empire.
Perfect analogy because the whole movie is like The Force Awakens but some how worse 😂
"Greeks would never have a gay custom." That's a joke right ? I'm assuming it is. 🤣
ASSuming, just like the Greeks
@CopaExMachina 😆😅
If it's this gay, why not just call it GLAADiator?
I had a sneaking suspicion they would make the Lucius kid turn out to be Maximus' bastard. NOT glad to see i was right...
@thunderboltproductionsshpk Someone's uninformed, literally so many movies recently including 'The Brutalist,' 'Challengers,' 'Nosferatu,' 'Anora,' 'Twisters,' 'Blitz,' 'Strange Darling,' 'The Bikeriders,' 'Queer,' 'Trap,' 'Maria,' 'Cuckoo,' 'Oppenheimer,' 'Sharper,' 'The Northman,' 'Maestro,' 'Licorice Pizza,' 'No Time to Die,' 'The Worst Person in the World,' 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,' 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' 'Asteroid City,' 'Bones and All,' 'The Fabelmans,' 'A Man Called Otto' and 'The Battle of Baktan Cross' are all shot on film.
@@thetalentof well damn i didn't know about this, this was a nice info but still the movie looks beautiful nonetheless to me 🤷♀ (15 cameras anyway)
Also the John Mathieson interview was intentionally edited and both the video publisher and John came out saying those statements came from 2 different unrelated moments, so it's pretty useless to mention that.
i think more alien sequels would have been much better than a stand alone gladiator movie
I feel like I should dispute this but then again the Alien franchise has been ruined since 3 so it couldn't be as bad as this...We're used to it
@CopaExMachina i feel like it shud be easier to make an alien sequel than a gladiator sequel
All true and accurate. This film was hollow.
Perfect word for Ridley's career as well
If you think this movie looks bad on the silver screen then you’ll really be “surprised” by the home release Holy fucking shit , yikes …
( Don’t Believe It Or Not )
Not yet released but judging by recent modern movie fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk .
"Wait for the director's cut" is a phrase of satire now
Change this movies title to "Training Day 211 AD"
You got mad squabbles boi
@CopaExMachina You know I'm right, and we all know Denzel was the main character of that movie.
GLADIATOR 3 coming next year " Gladiator Vs Aliens
Okay that might get Ridley back in my good graces
Strongly disagree. I enjoy Denzel, but not in this role. Didn’t seem to fit the vibe of Ancient Rome. Admittedly, I’m among the crowd that detested hearing rap played in that one trailer. He was too hip, and casual for that society. This isn’t Training Day.
It was like they asked "what if Alonzo Harris was in Rome?" And ran with it
I don´t think Sir Ridley will have headache from your review😂😂😂
In life, there are two possibilities: being Ridley Scott, or being a nobody who criticizes Ridley Scott for ... stupid reasons. Of course, there still is the third possibility: DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE.
