Nice, it's basically an Edsel Citation Engine 410/475, from back in 1958, got the fuel pump connection on top in front of the engine next to the distributior,. My 58 CITATION had the 475 engine with 4 barrel carb.😁👍😉

You're right. That is amazing for an engine to run great despite neglected maintenance.

  • @reijerlincoln

You are right about them running well with "mud and piss". My 462 ran strong despite needing a full rebuild and having a mismatched 430 intake. But you HAVE to replace the original timing set if it is still there. Because the nylon teeth on the camshaft timing gear ARE going to crack and break off - and block the oil pickup tube. The original oil pump drive shaft is prone to twisting itself into a pretzel - better get a sturdier billet one from Precision Oil Pumps. And that crank driven power steering pump.... expensive to replace or rebuild. If it's groaning it's on its way out the door.... beware of it dumping a load of ATF in the crank case. The Carter 3 port fuel pump is difficult to find properly rebuilt (contact Mike Casella) Then there are the two small thermostats behind the water pump on the early 430's... remove and do not replace: over-designed and unnecessary. The exhaust manifolds are prone to cracking and hard to find/expensive. So yeah... lovely motor but you have to know what you're getting into. ;)

I rebuilt my 430 2 years ago runs great i put a warmer cam in it to liven it up a little and run 10 :1 compression used resonators only no mufflers
Less restricted exhaust and running valvoline Vr1 30 racing oil high zinc .. 20 mpg at 60 mph only a idiot would change engine
I have a 57 mercury with a super marauder 430 tri power never has engine been rebuilt or heads off with 53 k original miles just timing chain replacement
And waterpump rebuild .. a 430 is bullet proof .. the engine before the 430 came around in late 57 was the 368 shared by mercury and Lincoln and later bored to 430 cid Used by Lincoln Edsel mercury (LEM) like I said before only mentally challenged would get rid of original engine .. and reason for
Warmer cam highly recommended better overlap on valve cycles duration better for today's fuel and waterless antifreeze (Evans coolant ) less chance pinging if you machine shop doesn't recommend warning up cam profile and flowing heads ... find a real machine shop ... our family shop in business
Since 1935 ... and always recommended improving performance without killing longevity of engine .. I am driving my 1963 Continental Nocturne Blue
4 door today same color as one crushed in goldfinger (5years on rebuilt 430 ) warmed up 430 with C6 firmed up shifts ( transmission out of 66 ) low restricted exhaust . Running resonators only like on all my cars if installed less restricted and its 92 degrees outside engine running 195 degrees
A/c running R 12 still cold enough to frost AC vents made trip to Tampa 60 mph no issues the round trip will be 355 miles just a perfect run 👌
    Great video thanks 😊

Rebuilt the 462 in my 1967. Went 510ci, Edelbrock heads they found laying around in a store room (Thoroughly Worked Over) 3x2 carb intake, cam blank ground to roller cam to match heads & intake. 11:1 compression. 650hp through an AOD Trans for 575 at the wheels. Out on the road with AOD gets 27-30mpg at the speed limit running just the middle carb, electric choke, pertronix ignition, 290 Amp alternator, 16 volt battery & a few other hidden upgrades. I found an outstanding machine shop in a huge warehouse at a Ford dealer that just works on Lincoln mainly, Thunderbird & top of the line Mercury's. Ac has been rebuilt for R134 as well

bought a 1968 Continental when i was in the Air Force. it had some broken exhaust studs and was oily on the block. still drove it about 10,000 miles before deciding to rebuild it. not knowing all i really needed was valve cover gaskets.
took the heads to a machine shop and they replaced the studs (i had no knowledge at the time nor a place to do it myself). then ended up having the entire engine rebuilt. the guys who worked it only had to hit the cylinders with a hone (that looked more like a wire brush than the typical 3 bladed hone). it had 98k on it when i pulled it out. i loved that car but it needed more work than i could afford and i ended up selling it. mine was a january 68 so i got the 'last of the V-8s' lol (YES I KNOW IT WASNT THE LAST OF THE V-8s) it was the 462cid before they started using the 460s before i sold it i had filled it with 26 gallons of gas. then it sat for 10 years. TEN YEARS and the guy who bought it, put a new battery in and it started and ran. he used all he fuel in the tank and it never missed a beat

They’re pretty awesome motors especially once you put a little time into replacing the nylon timing gears with new iron gears and chain. Also big time
Upgrade comes from getting good head gaskets with rebuilt heads and good exhaust gaskets from Remflex

Funny thing is I have rebuilt a couple dozen engines in my life. I have torn apart many, many others. EVERY LAST Ford engine I ever torn down or ever taken the rocker covers off have this sludge. NONE of the Mopar, Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac or Buick engines had this sludge, they were all almost "like new" clean. I do not understand it. Is it because people who own Fords are too cheap to change the oil? Or is it because all these Ford engines I had experience with used Pennzoil? Why? It is a mystery to me.
