Thanks Nigel I am following your Spitfire 1/24 build avidly and as a returner to modelling learning loads
Nicely done! I like the 'green-basing' technique for the cockpit inner surfaces....it looks very good, even at this early stage! 👍
Another great and fun video. Thanks Nigel.
Great post Nigel, your taking steps i have seen other pass over that are the difference in good and great
Really enjoyed that with lots of top tips thank you.
Great video my friend that cockpit detail looks fantastic great explanation of how you do pre-shading really makes the details pop the seat belts look great really is a nice looking kit looks forward to seeing more thanks for sharing 👍👍
FYI, that’s not the battery, it’s the TR1143 radio.
U know that the brush of the extra thin can pull out more so u can reach the bottom of the pot.
The remedy to oil washes on flat surfaces is to "paint on" thinner or white spirit first then do oil washes. The oil paint will stay in the crevices.
looking great Nige
@@NigelsModellingBench nope but post is all over the place, will let you know when they arrive
I think when you’ve finished yours I might start mine , maybe , possibly well one day anyways good one Nigel regards fred
It's a mk8 rudder all so fitted to the mk9 late not wide enough for a griffon engine spitfire nigel great video
No problem Nigel it’s like the panel under the tail fins the kit gives you the mk9 fixed tail wheel but there clearly planing a mk8 or even a mk7 too
Be careful with that rear panel, Nigel. The tail wheel assembly pushes the panels out, it's a very tight fit.
Funny you should say that Ed, I was looking at that tonight and thinking i would test fit the leg before assembling the fuselage.. saying that.. I've spread mine so maybe will be OK?
Hi Nigel absolutely love your videos point of note about the pointed rudder that is for either later mkix spits or the spitfire mkVIII hence the separate tail wheel panels so perhaps there will be a mkVIII in the future 👍
@@NigelsModellingBench or an early F MK.XVI which was basically the Mk.IX with the Packard Merlin - those also had the fixed tail wheel. Will need new exhaust stubs I think. But the XVI is closer to the IX than the VIII is. Loving this build Nige and pleased you've decided to do it out of the box.
I too am in the process of building this amazing kit and have discovered a rather obvious omission - the elevator control rod that is attached to the control column is not included. The attachment point on the control column is there but not the rod that runs under the pilot's seat. I know, it's an easy fix but strange that they missed that feature considering the wealth of detail provided throughout.
Good spot John.. I was wondering what the attachment under the pilots seat in the centre of the former was for? I wonder if it's in the kit, just missed from the instructions?
@@NigelsModellingBench If you find it, I'll be watching Part Three of your build.
I'm filming part 5 right now mate. I've had a good look through and cannot find it. i reckon the tool designer left it out on sprue D and it would now cost thousands to tool it.
Anyone know of a levelling thinner thats compatible with tamiya acrylics? The Mr Color one is like gold dust in the UK.
👍👍
...даааа!-ээээтот спитфайр красавчик...
Looks fantastic Nigel. I agree on XF-71 being a touch dark once the cockpit is closed up and washes are applied. Roughly, what ratio of XF-71 to XF-21 do you use to lighten it up a bit? TIA
Hi when u did the instrument panel did u paint the front or the back of the clear part
Hello Nigel, which hgw seat belt set would be the one to get there seems to be a few options, also which canopy masks did you use.
Any 1/24 Sutton seat belt should do you. Go for the Laser cut ones. The masks I use are the brilliant ASK ones.
@@NigelsModellingBench Thanks that's very helpful 👍👍, hope you Jess and your mum have a great Christmas
Hello from Florida Nigel! It is another great build. I love all your builds and you have made me into a better modeller watching your videos. Thank you for that. I want to build a F-4U corsair. What kit do you think I should build? I hope Jess and you have a great day!
I've got the Mig-Ammo black slow dry super glue and it does the same streaking and spidering, weird
Great build so far, really enjoying to watch, love your meticulous work.
I mainly do 1/48s (shelf space) but this kit is something else, and i have a MK IXc from ICM the one with the Beer Kegs.🍺
Nigel, would you consider 4k or maybe 1440p in the future?
Thank you.👍
Greetings from Portugal
Nice video Nige, just wondering if the fit 'issues' that you mentioned are being caused, by people rushing things, as having the first kit finished on the interweb and social media, etc.
Not sure mate. I have found some fettling is required to get the forward two cockpit formers in but the firewall fits perfectly. I have covered the fit issues of these in part four of the series, nothing but a little sanding and scraping. There is an issue with the fit of the tail wheel leg, but again. a little scraping is all that's required.. again covered in no 4.
John has noticed Airfix have omitted the control rod from the column that goes back under the seat...
In the true spirit of out of the box I guess really, they just mean the parts on the sprues. Having said that there’s a lot of left over plastic that is the sprues themselves, just saying there in the box! what could you add utilizing all that plastic?
Just about to start this great looking kit. But tried to get this card but couldn’t find it anywhere. Who did you get yours from please 🙏
Oh OK. Look out for styrene sheet. Be wary of those who claim they have styrene when it's really ABS. Go for Plastruct or Evergreen.
You mentioned a book coming out. Have you any details of it ? Also where I may purchase it?
Loving the build not started mine yet.👍
It's an Airfix Model World step by step guide Brian. facebook.com/photo/?fbid=580385540755387&set=a.356133296513947
Does anyone have any idea what the pointy tool is? Nigel is using I can’t seem to find it anywhere
Have you seen the recent changes IPMS has made to the out of the box category? Not sure if it's just a US thing or if it applies to the UK chapters too. Curious what your thoughts are.
No?? I'll probably never enter a competition so it makes no odds really??
Hello!
You mentioned Mr Surfacer 1200 and levelling thinner which seems to have produced a super finish.
Could Mr Surfacer 1500 be used in the same way?
Would you dilute 50/50 with Mr leveller?
Atb,
ZZ
In a word.. yes. All Mr. Surfacer can be thinned and sprayed. I would recommend thinning it to where you and your airbrush are happy. one cannot use percentages as mr Surfacer thickens with age.
@@NigelsModellingBench Thickens with age eh? Sound a bit like me. Thanks!
Just a comment
for the algorithm
The spare rudder is for a Mk. VIII, or possibly late Mk. IX or XVI. The Mk. XIV rudder is even bigger :)
