Great job Julian, I'm a licensed mechanic for 40+ years and have over 100,000 dollars worth tools.. I snap when I don't have the proper tool or can't find it.. but you are amazing with what you have and how you approach or attack this very delicate and intricate jobs.. I'm very impressed by your tenacity and love of this jag.. I find it even more impressive that your such a young man and love this car.. My 19 year old son and I have been custom working on his Jag-XJS. We shaved completely the intake manifold filled all holes , sanded it with 1500 grit paper then polished it a mirror shine, removed all wiring and hid it best as possible, removed all vacuum lines, 1 fuel reg ignition module in front of rad, chromed everything under the hood that was steel.. sand blasted everything else under the car and powdered coated. Removed and replaced all bolts and nuts with stainless steel. Custom air snorkels. Keep up the great work
Well done, great video as always. I enjoy all the extra details you give that are easily overlooked or omitted on other peoples videos. The camera work on this is definitely next level. Make sure you stay in good graces of the A/V tech. Just my opinion.
Hi Julian. Do you have any information on getting a 1986 v12 on a run stand I.e. wiring diagram have complete engine harness can't figure out how to get it to start. Thanks. Jim
Great video, ive never been too happy about retracting the tensioner as they invariably break due to age (and at €450 to replace, not a cheap "supplementary" repair either), ok, if you are changing the timing chain, it would be an expectation but for a valve clearance job in my case? I'd rather leave everything in place
Tres bon travail mec !
I have a daimler double six that has started smoking heavy out the right exhaust with white smoke wich I believe is anti freeze and a slight misfire when hot. I believe I will be taking the heads off soon.
Sorry ! There are no metric bolts on a Pre Ford Jaguar V12. The British taught us that 3 barely corns from the center of the ear equals one inch.. Use SAE wrenches.
Hi fellow gear-heads! I'm currently disassembling my XJS V12. Can anyone please LMK where to buy a pair of these clever head puller plates used in this video? Thanks for any info...
These pullers operate exactly the same as the plate but are cheaper, lighter and are easier to store in the tool box. I was going to buy the plate at first but couldn’t justify spending $350, not including shipping to Alaska. One advantage the plate has over the two pullers is that you have more lifting points instead of only the front and back. 🍻
@@JulianGriggs With the plate, you effectively only use two jacking points at a time anyway. I had a plate until I lent it to someone who didn't return it right away and died and it got lost. Instead of making another plate, I made a set of four of these pullers and they work as well as the plate. Usually. There are some cases where nothing works well. Jacking the head up and down repeatedly using penetrating fluid for a couple of days is the only answer.
Hey Julian, great job as always.. have you managed to rebuild it yet? And you mentioned of upgrading the cams.. where and who did you find them, and kind of performance increase..
Still in the process unfortunately… I was hoping the engine would have been done by now, but I am still waiting on parts also time/money is always a factor haha. Piper Cams will regrind your stock cams for a reasonable cost. Ship the cams to them and they send them back with a different cam profile.
Good job. It took me a good week to remove the heads off of my v12
Thank you! Took me about a week as well, The first time I removed the heads.
Great to see a young man not afraid of a v12......

I appreciate the kind words!
Please make a video of your sons car, would love to see the work done! 🍻
I'll attach some pictures.. no videos asking my if we should.. also don't forget the improved cam feeder banjo bolts to allow more oil..
Good to see you using pullers. So many videos out there not doing so. You make it look easy mate. 😁
Thanks for watching man! Pullers are the way to go 🍻

Keeping in good graces with the A/V tech is a must! 😂 thanks for the feedback 🍻

do you have a vid showing the bottom end take down, or not ???

Merci mec! Je vous remercie d'avoir pris le temps de regarder la vidéo ! bonne chance pour ta construction! 🍻
Hi Julian, Enjoyed your video, I have question, I have 85 XJS that reverse gear doesn't work, do you have any idea? Thanks
Sounds like the transmission needs to be rebuilt. Possibly the gear selector is not properly engaging reverse.
@@JulianGriggs Thank you
Very nicely done.
Thank you!

That’s what mine did when the head gaskets went. Heads can be removed with the engine in the car.

Typical British engine. Lubricant red with 90% oil and 10% blood. Good to see our US friends keeping these alive.

What the update on this
You should have used the jacking plate method,I’ve done a video.
Have you a link?

@@JulianGriggs I agree with Julian. The pullers are, in my opinion, better than the plate...
@@JulianGriggs
I was lucky a friend gave me his old plate in exchange for rebuilding his front suspension.

You should do a dyno run with the current engine before you plop this bad boy in.
I’ll definitely get a dyno run scheduled. I am very curious to see what she’s making.
U r lucky that came of ezy not normal 🤔
