I once worked at a bookstore in a mall. One day, during my shift, I got sent out to get a few things from a supermarket in that mall. I got there, wearing my normal civil clothes, except I had no bag or backpack or anything, and was wearing a badge with COMPANY NAME on it, and as I was collecting the stuff I was sent to get, (20 minutes tops), 4 different people came up to me asking "where is (whatever)". One of them even found me TWICE, not even bothering remembering who has he asked.
A few years later, working at a different bookstore, I was on my lunch break and just dropped by at a boutique right next to it to look for a gift for my brother. I was wearing the bookstore's bright red polo shirt, and a name tag with a logo of the store. But again, uniformish look and no bag with me. Within 2 minutes of me being there, a woman came up to me and asked: "Do you have any fitting rooms on this floor, too?"
(I just said "No, I don't," and left.)

I had someone ask me where something was in a Target. I had seen what she was looking for on the shelf a couple weeks earlier, so I was able to say that I didn't work there, but direct her in the right direction anyway. I got both a "sorry" and a "thank you", so yeah, there are still decent people.

That last story was actually heartwarming, someone does something super nice and gets totally rewarded for it.

If someone grabs your arm like that and tries to pull you someplace else like described in the situation at 9:40, CALL THE POLICE. This is assault and attempted kidnapping, also verbal harassment for this situation. People who assault others have a super high tendency to become murderers so always call the police and have them charged. Those are people that you absolutely do not want just walking down the street, especially not around kids as kids are extremely easy to cause harm to.

We had a temp that did something similar, and ended up dragging a random uni student into a secondary...Which completely breaches any safeguarding we had in place. She was fired, and the student was reasonably chill since it got her an excuse for why she was late to lectures.

Yeah after that story I googled "When is it legal to punch someone in the face". I was sad to learn that not even in THIS situation would you be allowed to punch a Karen. You can only punch them if they punched first which is totally ridiculous IMO.
If someone grabs you and won't let go and as a bonus DRAG you somewhere against your will, you should 100% be legally able to use ANY and ALL physical means to get away.

I had to fly to Africa (I lived there) from Sweden (where i'm from) and the only possible flight at the time was to fly to the UK and take another flight from there to the destination. That was a chartered flight with british turists.... never again. Dear god, your chivalry seems to just drain away at the airport. It was me, my boss, a few people from the country where we were going and then the rest was Karens. Even the flight attendants were Karens.

Dude, I had one that acted like he was John Wayne. When I grew up he turned out to be okay though despite the principle that we had being a sexual harasser and harassing anyone from families he hates. Only reason I avoided it for the most part was my standardized test scores.

I actually had a Karen try to pull the I know the manager card with me. Trouble was, I work security, I was essential a subcontractor so only the owner of the building and my boss had any authority over me. So very hard to intimidate me.
Anyway, the Karen in question. Was insistent she was allowed to just swan around the building I worked in (she couldn't, there was a law firm there, the security team was hire to protect them from angry clients and victims, so we couldn't just let people walk around the place), because "She was a friend of the owner".
She really didn't like it when asked which company (the building had multiple companies operating there) and what manager she was talking about.
She stormed off, 5 minutes later she returns with some douchebag in a cheap suit. And this guy is shouting at me while Karen looks smug.
That smug look and the guy's confidence evaporated when I told them I'll need to contact the building's owner about their grievance.
Turns out the shitbird friend of Karen, had told her he owned the building so he could get laid, he was a freaking low level clerk at a IT company, not a technician or management even, but the dude who handled invoices.
His ass got fired, apparently he had tried to to make himself look like a big shot before by bullying people. The "dumb" security staff were his favourite targets, as we where supposed to just comply since he was in a suit.
He reasoning was so stupid, most of the people I work with on security are ethier ex-military or police. But he got lucky a few times, I was his third civilian (I haven't been a soldier or a cop) so figured I would fold if he made a scene.
At the time I had worked security for 7 years, in nightclubs, shopping centres (malls) and office buildings. That turd picked the wrong guy because I wasn't about to be brow beaten by some guy who lies to get his dick wet.
That last guy just posted his awesome story on the WRONG subreddit. I DEMAND COMPENSATION FOR THIS!

Do you know, I made a comment about a cartoon teaching a karma lesson and some idiot wrote "Karma isn't real anyway". I didn't argue, just pointed out that it didn't matter if karma was real, the show just wanted kids to think that good deeds mean good luck.

I had the school thing happen to me. I graduated a year before my little sister. I was nice one day and offered to pick her up from school. I was waiting for her to come out when the Principal asked me why I wasn't in class. I was really confused and said I am waiting for my sister to get out. He said you should be in class and asked me to come inside. Well, I followed laughing because I was dude I graduated with your daughter last year. Mind you my school was only 600 students and he knew me by name. The Vice-Principal and office staff were really confused when he said I was skipping class. The VP looks at me and says's hows college-going? I answered great just here to pick up the little sister. The Principal gets red and walks into his office while the VP, Office staff and myself started laughing.
Karen: "I WANT TO SEE A MANAGER!"
Sane people: "ofcourse you do.."
Reply: “Okay, Karen-I want to see YOUR manager!”
The office lady was like

I felt the 1 about the school security guard. I'm 21 but I could pass as 12. I'm barely over 5 feet tall, a bit on the pudgy side, & have a baby face. Alot of people dont take me seriously cause they think I'm a teenager or even a kid. Once I had an uber driver almost refuse to give me a ride. As I was getting in the car, after I made absolutely sure that he was my driver & it was the correct car, the first thing he says is "How OLD are you??" Me being a lady, upon hearing some guy ask me my age, i immediately got pissed. I just gave him a death glare that would burn a whole through the sun, & yelled "EXCUSE YOU??" He started stuttering, trying to ask somewhat more politely if I was a kid. I just kept up the death glare as he looked at me, then at my uber profile pic, then back to me. He just muttered "oh.... i see" & started driving. I wasn't trying to scare the poor guy. I'm just so tired of everyone thinking I'm a kid, so whenever it happens, I do lose my temper a bit. Even some of my friends forget how old I am, even tho I'm older than some of them.

The Truant Officer story just gave me flashbacks to back when I was in highschool. I swear, some people get some sort of power they can use over others and it just goes to their heads.
For a small bit of context, my Highschool is about a block or two away from the JR HighSchool and only the Highschool has 'Off Campus Lunch'. So when lunch time rolls around there's a bunch of Truant Officers that patrol the area since a lot of JR High students sneak out and try to blend in with the group of highschoolers to go to the nearby fastfood places.
Now, I rarely ever left campus to get lunch but every time I did, like clockwork, I would get stopped by a Truant Officer every time on both trips. Going to McDonalds and coming back. I'm only 4'10 and I have a very young looking face so I guess it makes sense to mistake me for someone younger, but here's where the issue comes in.
Most of the time, they dont even ask for an ID, just berate me for 'ditching school' and demanding me to go back. I always have my ID on me and when I show it to them, they get REAL snippy and rude with me, like I had just backhanded and spat at them.
However, there was one time where a guy just flat out didnt believe me and said that my ID card was a fake, both my student ID and my State ID. Then he just grabbed me by the arm and started to drag me all the way to the JR High. So we make it to the office of my old JR High and I greet the staff there. The Principal gets called over and well, she was just very confused. Had to explain to the guy that he, was in fact, wrong and that he more or less just kidnapped me. I was let go and I scurried back to my highschool. No way I would make it to the McDonalds, get my food and make it back in time before the bell rang. I did have an interesting story to tell at least.
I dont know if its a Truant Officer thing or just my district was terrible, but I heard plenty of other stories from fellow classmates about how they got harassed by Truant Offices cus they happen to look young or be short or both. I remember one saying how a Truant Officer cut up their 'fake' ID.
Why be a real Cop and stop crime when you can just bully defenseless kids instead?
Destroying a real ID is a crime in most if not all jurisdictions.

I’ve been the customer asking another customer for something and I hear the I don’t work here.
Then I leave it at that. I say my bad and find an actual employee. The end.
The last story is especially great, the boss at least had the decency to repay the kindness of OP by letting him drink for free that night, which is nice to see

I'm always shocked at how calm and patient people are in these stories. If a random lady put her hands on me like the airport lady, I'd either start swinging or start screaming.
I've had something similar while walking past my old secondary school, pushing a pushchair. I left maybe 6 years ago. I laughed in their face
With 30 years of retail I have had to tell thousands of people "I don't work here."
Many a times wearing khakis anywhere with a polo being asked questions. The worst part is when I actually knew more about the products than the people that did work there and helped the customer just because I felt bad for them.

Most are just stupid, but we can see in some of these stories that some of these Karens are in fact deliberately causing a ruckus for personal gain.
People do use this tactic in life...
My step mother works at Olive garden and she's noticed a few times that families will cause a stir after their meal about getting bad service and cold food and drinks unfilled (all lies) just so they can get a coupon for their next visit.
I haven't watched one of these in a while, and I love them.

Yesterday it actually happened to me "Lady, I don't work here" moment. Because I was wearing my dark-blue workcoat.
And the supermarket I was looking through the vegetable stand, all the employees also use the same color clothing.
Luckily this lady quickly caught that it was a coat...not a polo, and a different company stood on my back...Still managed to help her out (she was looking for a specific type of Tomato, because the super recently changed the layout).
Karen: I want free pizza
Manager: Ma'am...she doesn't work here. Hell, I'm struggling to not throw you out for being rude to our regular
Karen: But I'm a regular
Manager: No you're not. I've been a manager here for long enough to know the regulars by name and today's the first day I've seen you. You get what you order and nothing more. And if you continue this route, I am going to have to ban you from this store and other pizza joint in this town...and the next 5 towns.

I've has opposite experiences. When I was 9, I've always looks like I was 13. Not only did I look older, but I was tall for a kid my age.
So my family and I go to an asian restaurant we regularly went to and the waitress and hostess were arguing with my dad that I was not under 13 so I was have to be charged under adult prices. My dad literally had to go into his car and show them my birth certificate to shut them up. Idk if there was any compensation unfortunately.

NGL a lot of places that are franchised or even have one owner for a few stores without a real corporate company dont have reliable HR if any at all, at least in the restaurants I've worked in over the last 7 years

Quick story, when i was training to be a scuba instructor here in NZ, we heard a story from the bloke teaching us, he said if we ever go to America and see someone hurt in the street, step over or walk around them and do nothing, cause if you try to help and that person dies from their injurys, that their family can sue because you couldnt save them and they still died (not counting doctors, just a random person trying to help) even tho someone else tried to help. Im inclined to believe what he said cause he lived there for over 20yrs.

Dude has a rat up his ass about being important. I work security, I don't do because I have a fantasy about being a cop, I do it because the money is good, I like the work and I only occasionally get punched.
I basically have no more authority than any other civilian, but my word carries a little more weight in a court case and no thinks twice if I get physical to subdue someone being a dick.
But I'm familiar with ass hats like that. The reason they went to security was because the police knew they were A-holes who shouldn't have any authority.
