@@DWilliamW99 If you’re behind someone, you can make them take the air resistance for you so you go faster. It’s called slipstreaming - basically the car that’s behind is faster and will get a better lap time.
The two guys in the video are teammates. In one race, Driver A is at the back and gets better lap-time. In next race, Driver B is at the back and gets better lap-time. They keep switching so it’s fair.
In this video, the guy at the front (Ricciardo) is complaining saying it’s unfair so he wants to swap. The guy at the back (Verstappen) is arguing to his engineer saying it’s discipline, and that he deserves to be in the back this race because he helped Ricciardo last race.
@@DNJ9o9o oh I see, so this is in the qualifiers? And Ricciardo already had his turn at the back to get a good time, now it’s Verstappen’s turn?
@@DWilliamW99 Yeah this is qualifying. They qualify before every race and the previous qualifying was where Verstappen helped Ricc. This session was where Ricc was supposed to help, but obviously some drama came up.
Also, teams don’t always switch between drivers. Verstappen ahead for one race, then Ricc for another was just an arrangement Red Bull made. It’s not set in stone or anything.
This video has the post-qualifying interviews in it. I personally side with Verstappen, but to each their own.

It’s one of the fascinating parts of F1 your racing as an individual representing your country for a brand of car. It’s discipline and politics on a race track which makes it so much more interesting than just a free for all race where every man is for themselves.
That sounds.... stupid and boring. A race is a race, the whole point is to win. Honestly it seems like his objective was to get a "tow" so that he could win. Fuck country, just win, it's a race.

@@platoon1558 formula 1 this year was amazing. When max said it's discipline he meant his ego would be fine with him in front even though he's on another level of racing. Good deeds don't go overlooked in F1.
Dutch guy here. It's a mixed bag.
I've been watching F1 since Vettel's first WDC and pretty much had no-one to talk F1 with. Then Spain 2016 happened and half the country suddenly decided F1 was the hot new thing. As Max his succes grew the number of fans and level of enthausiasm kept growing alongside him.l
Now Max Verstappen is everywhere and i do mean everywhere.
The thing is though, i still can't really talk to people about F1. I can talk about Max ('isnt he amazing') or Lewis ('isnt he a whiny lad') with them, sure, maybe even drive to survive, but F1? Nah. Most people still arent interested in the sport.
The increased viewing numbers also meant that the broadcast rights got bought out. So by next year i will have to pay yet another subscription service 15 euro's a month for just F1 instead of it being included in my TV package. Which i refuse to do.
Maybe i would've had a different experience if i wasnt a Dutch F1 fan (with Vettel and the now retired Nico Hulkenberg as favorite drivers).
