The lens is no longer on my wishlist because I just bought a copy today..LoL. I am also a macro shooter (so I use smaller aperture for the sharpness and wider DoF anyway) and also own 1.4x TC, so this lens is a must-have for me. I love everyhing about it!!!

That bee detail blew me away. Macro doesn’t float my boat though. I will get this lens though to replace my 70-300 Sony lens as it’s faster and sharper and lighter, plus I don’t need the extra reach because I have the 200-600 Sony lens.
1.4 x or 2.0x Teleconverter on a a6700 to get the 1:1 Macro with this lens?

I have this lens and I really like its lightweight and optical quality, AF is even faster than mine 200-600, probably because it is so light, so motors have much less work.
My only complaint about this lens is magnification ratio, if it was at least 0.3x it would be superb. Only upgrade to this lens is tamron 150-500, but weight difference is almost trippled.
Hi there, thanks for the review. I'm wondering if I need to get teleconverter to take lens to start with macrophotography with this lens? Reason for asking is I'm also checking on Laowa lens for macrophotography. If I'll get the 70-200mm F4, it will cost me more just to get a teleconverter rather than spend it for flash + diffuser.
The Sony 70-200mm Macro F4 G OSS II is designed to be used as a macro lens. It’s half-macro as standard, 0.7 with a 1.4x tele and full macro with a 2x. So if you want a true 1:1 macro photography lens, then you will need to use the 2x teleconverter with it. If you're happy with a half-macro, then no teleconverter is required.
