    Best suggestion, if you buy a tab for reading then don't install any other apps unless its required. Don't install any social media apps

      Two years later, still the best advice! Social media apps require a ton of storage, memory (RAM), notification spam, and data downloads (not to mention the battery usage which I swear is more than reported). Too much stress

    I've done both. I started reading on tablets but the screen caused too much eye fatigue. I went to e-ink devices and it felt closer to home but not perfect. Now that e-ink screens are as big as 10.3 and 13.3 inches e-ink is an unavoidable reading experience. Also, I sight-read music and a 13 inch e-ink screen is absolute perfection for that purpose as well. great video, by the way!

    I prefer to have both, reading too long on my ipad really hurts my eyes. Been using an e-reader for 9 years, Nook was my first e-reader, i still have my Clara HD but i am planning to get the new Kobo Sage or libra 2 when it comes out as i need a bigger screen to read manga. Kindle never appealed to me as it is a close system, and my ebook collection is mostly on epub format. Tablet is great but if you are an avid reader i would really recommend getting an e-reader, the paper like screen is a delight 👌🏼. And besides, you can always have most functionality of a tablet on your phone.

    I want to buy this tablet for reading as well. My laptop fried yesterday because I use it for everything related to school and work. Therefore, it's better to have a tablet for reading books/news while having a laptop to do HW and work projects. I didn't know about E-Readers, but I would still not buy one because it's limited to only reading. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ereader for 6 years, its a very specific device.. once you load in the books its practically "offline" good for cruise and travel. a very good leisure to read a nice book. i once left my kindle away for 1 year. and just charge them up and read once in a while.. and only bring it out when i find a book i want to read... so saying not buying one because usage is low is not really a good reason.. tablets and phone you kind of want to change them every 2 years cause of new models and latest os. the ereader is kind of future proof kind of device.

      Hello. Thanks for your insights! I will for sure buy an e-reader in the future but not too soon as I'm just starting to transition from physical book to ebook. I've been a paperback reader for a long time and still find it difficult for me to read in front of a screen and so I bought a tablet for a sort of practice if you will. I agree that android devices are kind of replaceable but I use them not just for reading so must say it's still worth it. I'll definitely buy an ereader once I'm fully ready that way I have a sole device for reading and not for other multi purpose task.

    I used to be an e-reader lover. But, now I love to read on my tablet. I just bought Tab S6 Lite too. :D I have Kindle and Kobo devices. I can say it is very nice experience reading on e-ink screen. But, the downside for me is that e-reader limits on type of books I want to read. Some ebooks that have pictures and illustration just bad to read on e-ereader. Besides, I love to highlight and take note and save as PDF to my Onedrive to read it again. Highlight and take note on e-reader just limit, not creative and not easy as on a tablet. On a tablet, I can write note at the side of any page I want. I can change highlight colors I want. One important thing that I love about reading on a tablet is that when I download ebooks it has book covers, so after I read and take note. I can easy save file to Onedrive and it has cover image on the book which I love. It is beautiful, it gives motivation to read later rather than a note file from an e-reader that I converted to PDF which has no book cover, just text (complicated, need to convert the note to easy access on phone and tablet). Read PDF file, highlight, note and save on a tablet is more convienence and save time. And, when I read on my tablet, I always turn off WIFI and I don't use Sim Card on my tablet. So there is no distraction for me. Besides, tablet nowadays have eyes comfort feature which filter blue light. I don't have eye strain reading on my tablet because I use good brightness and blue light filter.

    I'm having such a hard time deciding between an e-reader or a tablet. I mainly want to use it to study and take notes in lessons and i'm afraid i'll get distracted with the tablet. But the e-readers that support note taking almost as expensive as a tablet 😭

    • @gelligraphic
      @gelligraphic  3 роки тому +8

      Howdy howdy! If you want to use the tablet for study mainly and don't want to get distracted, you can do so by uninstalling the apps that will make you distracted like netflix or even youtube in that case. Because that's what I did. I mainly use this tablet for reading so I installed an e-book reader app, downloaded all my ebooks and reading tracker apps such as goodreads and the story graph. Aside from those, I have some apps for endutainment like youtube and netflix and I disciplined myself when watching and I just usually watch during weekends so I think it's just fine. I didn't install any games or socmed because I have my mobile phone for that. Before buying an e-reader or a tablet, make sure and think first what will be the purpose of that gadget so you won't regret buying it. 😊

    Any tablet is LCD/LED based, while you read, amount of light directly goes to your eyes is anytime higher than that of an e book. Ebook works on e-ink technology, which does not put stress on eyes, that is the major difference. Tab is not at all an alternate to ebook, it will damage your eyes over the time.

    On a certain level, we have a drug store in our brain, the neurochemicals that show up in flow: so dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin. If you were to try to cocktail the street drug version of that, right, you're trying to blend like heroin and speed and coke and acid and weed- and point is, you can't do it. It turns out the brain can cocktail all of 'em at once, which is why people will prefer flow to almost any experience on Earth. It's our favorite experience. It's the most addictive experience on Earth. Why? 'Cause it cocktails five or six of the largest pleasure drugs the brain can produce. We're all capable of so much more than we know. That is a commonality across the board. And one of the big reasons is we're all hardwired for flow, and flow is a massive amplification of what's possible for ourselves.¹

    I gave up on using my Kindle Paperwhite. The quirkiness of the software and botched updates were driving me crazy. The small screen also bothered me. Enlarging the fonts required more page turning which was a nuisance. To get an e-reader over 7 inches people may have to spend up to $300 US. A nice tablet can be purchased for that price. E-readers are a niche product. Amazon never discloses Kindle sales. With reading adjustments on tablets for less eye strain and the availability of inexpensive blue light reading glasses, several of the advantages of e-readers become less important. You made the right decision in purchasing a tablet.

    Hey, I really like your review on the S6 lite. A really pleasant video to watch too, good job! I can't really decide which to buy, either a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8") with S Pen or the S6 lite. My main purpose is to read pdf documents and some books. The S6 lite seems better, however since it's heavier, the hand might feel tired after holding it some time. On the other hand, while the Tab A is lighter, the smaller screen might make it difficult reading PDF docs. What do you think?

    • @gelligraphic
      @gelligraphic  3 роки тому +5

      Hello there Nazrin! First of all, thank you for the comment. Really appreciate it! With regards to your question, after a quick look on the specs comparison, it is true that Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, 467 g (1.03 lb) is heavier than Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0, 325 g (11.46 oz) it's because S6 Lite has larger storage capacity (64GB 4GB RAM, 128GB 4GB RAM) and hardware compared to the Tab A (8.0 32GB 3GB RAM). Having a much faster OS also eats up a chunk of storage making it heavier in weight too. But, if you don't have a problem with having a few smaller storage then you may go for the Tab A 8.0 if your main purpose is to read PDFs and ebooks. After all their features and specs is almost the same so I think it's a nice choice as well. Let me know your thoughts.

    NOTE - A lot of people mention eye strain when reading on tablet, no one I personally know complains about this I have only read about it online but I can see it being an issue.
    If
    1. budget is important,
    2. you don't have a tablet already,
    3. you have a PC/laptop,
    4. you read comics, pdfs, need to surf the web to download your pdf assignments and papers,
    5. find the need to do extra research on something you read while reading,
    6. use apps like Moon+ reader, google books in conjunction with kindle app,
    buying a tablet makes sense. It will most likely be slightly expensive but it's capable of doing a LOT more. For a student there is no beating a tablet especially with eye care stuff being part of almost every tablet now.
    Kindles are amazing and purpose built, get a tablet first and a kindle later on if you still desire one.
    My way of working and studying makes kindle not very useful and with the price being charged, it is a luxury in my eyes. I will get it if I feel like getting it so far I haven't faced any eye problems with my tablet reading even though I am prone to headaches.

    Tablet is a wiser choice but heavier. Not practical at all.

    I agree with you I would rather have an all in one device that does everything.

    If you are a heavy reader like me, you would prefer an ebook reader.

    How are you going to compare two products when you only own one? All youre doing is a bad review of a tablet 🤔
