The most pressing tipping point to be concerned about. Is methane being released from the ocean floor in the Arctic region.
Russia had a science vessel studying whether it has started happening yet in 2021. After 9 months of research just off the Coast of Siberia. It left in November. I haven't heard anything about what it found.
Russia started it's offensive in Ukraine 3 months after that.
If anyone knows what ever became of that?

Do you think Russia knows something from their research that pushed the invasion? The more I watch videos like this, the more I think larger pieces controlled by money and power are making decisions because they know things we don't. I live in MN, USA and there are parcels of land along Lake Superior that are starting to get gobbled up by people and corporations that you wouldn't think would want/need them. Maybe I'm just a doom scroller now.

    • @valoriethechemist
      @valoriethechemist Місяць тому

I think it would shock most people that the overwhelming number of corporate and government decisions are directly due to climate change impacts. Russia particularly stands to gain a lot by its location in terms of a world that is devastated by climate change where the equatorial third of the world experiences extreme desertification. Their thought about the Ukraine? Control the access to energy throughout the shift and profit from that greater than a third (likely closer to 2/3rds of the world needing to use your pipeline and your oil.
It's much more complicated in many ways. But it seems the question of world leaders acting upon rapid, major shift climate disruptions is a solid yes, every decision they make is regarding the world that will be due to the shifts, and much less the world at current.

When this happens frankly there will be no place to run. Everyones life will be decided by a throw of dice by fate, while 5 faces of the dice is ‘die’ the 6th face will be ‘survive’. So one will always have 1/6th probability of survival.
Now extrapolate this probability for 600 billion people and calculate the survival rate.

Over the last 2.5 million years, the AMOC collapsed 25 times. These events are commonly referred to as Dansgaard-Oeschger events, identified initially using ice core samples taken from the Greenlandic ice.
Collapses are regular and predictable, much as the current collapse is. It's a direct result of combined natural events such as the Milankovitch cycles and sunspots.
It is not due to anthropogenic causes.

If climate change was real Barack Obama would have never spent 15 million USD on a pacific beachfront property.
Let's face it: Global warming is a fraud.
      Why?
Well, the temperature curves of the climatologists all start at the end of the little ice age 1850/60 - at a temperature low point.
If you let the temperature curves start earlier (it was warmer then), then there is no global warming at all.
The global warming exists only in the computer and in the media.
If climate change was real Barack Obama would have never spent 15 million USD on a pacific beachfront property.
They conceal that the CO2 value in the pre-industrial time was higher than 260 or 280 ppm CO2. Already in an encyclopedia of 1885 one found values of 0,04% = 400 ppm. But these higher values were simply left out.
How exactly is the fraud & cheating done?
      1. They show you only a part of the temperature data
      2. They do not show and tell you that there are a lot of higher temperatures from the past by hiding the periods BEFORE the last small ice age 1850-1880.
      3. They do not tell you that it was already 3 times warmer in the last 3000 years than now (Minoan warm period 1000 before Christ, Roman warm period around the year zero, the medieval warm period around 1000 and the warm period today ).
      4. They do not tell you that the climate is cyclic and that there are several different cycles, which can explain completely , the existing temperature differences without one molecule of CO2.
      5. they do not tell that alone a mimimal weaker cloud cover leads to a higher irradiation and higher temperatures.
      6. They change data from the past and makes the past colder. NOAA, NASA, WMO, DWD, but also organizations in many countries of the world play dirty They do not tell you for example the end of an interglacial period i.e.
They manipulate past data like e.g. in the diagram from the 3rd assessment report of the IPCC (part 1, chap.) where the medieval warm period as well as the small interglacial period simply disappeared !
This is no coincidence as hacked Climategate emails prove.
Dr. Jonathan Overpack writes to Dr. David Demming: "We have to get rid of the medieval warm period".
      7. They don't tell you that they took out at least 7500 climate stations world-wide starting from the end of the 80's to today. Mainly stations in higher altitudes and cooler regions were deleted from the weather stations net. Disappeared.
A comparison of the annual average temperature of all stations before and after the removal of the 7500 stations automatically results in a warming.
A "statistically generated" warming by a reduced data basis. This is fraud.. Warming on paper.
In Germany there are at the time 08/2022 2575 weather stations of the German weather service DWD.
Up to this time 2,526 stations were removed from the measuring network since the beginning of the measurements.
      Replaced from 1.1.71 to 31.12. 1980 128 stations
      Replaced from 1.1.81 to 31.12.1990 96 stations
      Replaced from 1.1.91 to 31.12. 2000 95 stations
      Replaced from 1.1.00 to 31.12.2010 271 stations
      Replaced from 1.1.11 to 31.12.2020 464 stations
      Replaced from 1.1.21 to 31.08.2022 138 stations
Estimated by end of this decade if trend continues in the same speed
      848 stations from 1/1/2021 to 12/31/2030
Only 30 of these 2575 existing measuring stations have been in continuous operation since 1885.
New stations were installed primarily in warmer regions.
The german temperature increase of 1.6 degrees Celsius from 1885 to today, sold by the DWD as WARMING, can be called a deliberate fraud with a clear conscience. Because maybe more than 1 Degree Celsius is caused only by a high percentage of New stations in warmer regions.
What do we learn from this.
More and more top management of government agencies try to fool you.
      8. They do not incorporate the heat island effect in their data.
The heat island effect or UHI (Urban heat island) is the effect that the environments of almost all measuring stations have changed dramatically in the last 100 years.
Rivers and creeks have been straightened, wetlands have been filled in, meadows have been drained, meadows have been turned into fields. In many places you have been roads or residential, commercial or industrisl zones with lots of buildings and paved surface. Also roads, airfields etc.
Traffic and industry increased extremely. One or the other cold air corridor was closed off. The cities are further compressed.
Higher temperatures are measured as a result.
      Examples:
Rural stations in USA had only 0.09 degrees C temperature increase in 100 years. Urban measuring stations, on the other hand, had a temperature increase of 0.8 degrees in 100 years.
That is factor NINE. Nine times.
And that although the cities in the USA are usually much more dispersed than the cities in Germany.
Depending on the country and the time period, 0.5 - 1 degree of the average temperature would have to be subtracted from the current values in order to consider this urban heat island effect properly.
In addition there are from the end of the 80's some in this direction going investigations of the weather service chief of the USA at that time Mr. Karl.
The German weather service refuses to consider the heat island effect. Also the chief-liar-webpage klimafakten.de tries this to hide this UHI effect or talk it down.
      9. They do not tell you that they never properly compared new temperature measurements to the old technology.
The average temperature in Germany remained about the same from 1900 to 1985. From 1985 to 2000, the average temperature increased by 1 degree in total.
Then, from 2000 on, the average temperature remained the same again.
      Strange?
No - from 1985 to 2000, the DWD changed its measurement methodology from alcohol or mercury thermometers to PT100 Sensors.
According to its own statements, the DWD did NOT carry out any comparative measurements of the old and the new measuring methods.
A meteorologist compared both measuring methods for 6.5 years.
      And found the following facts:
The new method resulted in an average difference of plus 0.93 degrees, on 26% of the days the difference was between 1- 3 degrees.
So the warming is caused by not taking into account the temperature difference after changing the measuring methods. FRAUD by government agency.
      10. homogenization, data correction (Iceland, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, South Africa e.g.) Always it became warmer in the data afterwards.
      NASA. 2010: 120 measuring stations, 91 showed warming ,
      2012, 108 stations showed warming.
The measured data were the same.
Only those of 2012 were fudged.
NASA GISS satellite data. Real 18 years hardly any warming trend. After that data manipulation and temperature increase. The second satellite data provider (Alabama) did not go along with the fraud.
Satellite measurements are used for fraud.
Example: gauges in ports worldwide measure 1.2 to 1.9 mm sea level rise per year. Consistent.
Satellite measurements are 3 mm. Rising.
      12.
Much warmer than today it was in the Middle Stone Age 4500 B.C. likewise in the Neolithic 2500 B.C. also in the Bronze Age 1200 B.C. of course. In the Roman Warm Period around the birth of Christ 6,000 years ago hippos and crocodiles lived in what is now the Sahara 2000 -1400 b.C..
In the Subboreal it was warmer than today (heyday in Egypt)
500 to 370 b.C. wine grew in Upper Bavaria and Scotland.
218 b.C. Hannibal crossed the Alps with elephants
Climate optimum of the Middle Ages 1-2 degrees higher temperatures than today 1430 - 1465 cool summers, cold winters, crop failures
      1500-1550 general climate improvement
from 1550 again cooler, 1-2 degrees lower than before
Until 1630 cool summers, glacier advances
1680 - 1730 warm summers mild winters good wine years
From 1739/40 severe winters, glacier advances
1755 -1811 warm summers - annual mean temperature like today 1850-1880 cooler period, glaciers growing
since 1880 transition to further warming, with peak between 1905 and 1930 (Flohn, Deutscher Geographentag 1959)

And they bring false reports. If they turn out to be false, there is no correction, and if there is, then it's on the bottom left of page xx. This is how it is done. For thousands of years.

The Amazon rainforest is losing resilience and already heading for collapse due to longer dry season, reduced moisture levels and, very especially, deforestation. An AMOC shutdown would shift the dry and wet seasons, which could give it a final push, but this is unclear:
"The effect of an AMOC collapse on the Amazon Basin remains unclear (Wunderling et al., 2021[4]) with
studies projecting both a stabilising effect (Ciemer et al., 2021[23]) and conversely a drying of the Amazon

You completely ignored the fact the solar influence and space plasma electrostatic effects are known to be the primary drivers in the circulation of world wide oceans and atmosphere. There also seems to be a correlation here with the weakening of the earth's magnetic field and the implications that might have here. You need to broaden your view as to influences.

I agree,: Amoc is collapsing and it appears the whole biosphere will collapse as well, due to abrupt, extreme global overheating. This is the result of adding 3 trillion tons of greenhouse gasses to the skies, and thereby destablizing atmospheric chemistry. The gasses are recalcitrant and cant be removed, and humans are emmitting 40 billions more annually, so it looks like climate collapse is unavoidable. Agriculture collapse is likely within a decade or two. Very sad predicament!

We are both Underestimating and over estimating the resilience of Earth's balance mechanism, If AMOC stops as you say it cannot be permanent as it's effects will revive it back on first the cooling of Artic and Antartic will occur and the tropical and Temperate region to heat up Causing huge Evaporation of Water which will trigger massive storms in these regions but will cause high snowfall in the artic and Antartic causing the decreased Albedo effect in these region causing AMOC to restart again which will be very Violent due low Co2 absorption in the ocean and huge storms in the temperate region but I think this will happen sooner than you say but will not be as permanent as you say. the Simulation are wrong because these are not that dynamic or doesn't simply have the data from sudden collapse of Weather forces and have no Idea of the triggering forces and forget to account that Earth doesn't exist in one steady state but multiple steady states and the changes in those steady states are pretty violent and abrupt.

Really? There is no correction for the biosphere once that goes
Once the downwelling point under Greenland snaps and becomes a gyre or whatever it will become it will simply reverse? Is that how earths mechanisms work? To put everything back as it was?
Or will it disturb global circulation, which disturbs upwelling and downwelling, therefore disturbing trophic relationships causing massive phenological shifts and migration disruptions? The hydrosphere will not be the same and that would cause massive destruction to the biosphere and so therefore trophic relationships.

Balance is a tricky word, as some might take that to mean a return to like it was before. This is hardly the case, and possibly very unlikely as so many factors differ throughout the changes. Looking back at the Earth's geological and environmental history the stable period of the Holocene was an anomaly, and its unusual conditions allowed our civilization to grow and flourish. There is no "normal" to return to, only the continued ebb and flow as the climate readjusts to different stimuli (one being a huge amount of CO2 suddenly in the air) and finds a new balance with the new variables. That new balance likely won't be a great one for humans at that point, nor most of Earth's current species.

The 1.5 D C was supposed to happen around 2040, but we have it now in 2024 with 12 months steady 1.5 plus.
We can't change or stop and restart the AMOC by hour technology itself, we can only stop the causing rising temp and so melting and so warming, desalination by stopping the climate change itself.
And as the temperature rise is slow follow the CO2 rise and WILL rise still some years even after we got 0 CO2 emissions, our maybe big party for worldwide CO2 Zero emission will be very bad crashed maybe just 2 days later with the AMOC collapse.
We have NO time left !

I agree we should see this as urgent! But re the 2040 date for a 1.5degree global temp rise - that may still prove accurate. We have just seen it reach that for the first time but it is not yet an average rise. Between now and '40 there will be years when globally the temperatures are again lower. But by some point, possibly '40, that will be the norm with some years higher others lower.

There are huge natural fluxuations and changes. One gigantic one was the closing of the sea channel between north and south America. When Pacific Ocean water could flow freely into the Carribean and through it into the Atlantic it affected all other currents. The beginning and ending of ice ages affects currents of course - for example, when the immemse fresh water lake, of which the Great Lakes are a small remnant, flowed into the North Atlantic over a very short time span it affected salinity on a big enough scale to disrupt these currents. We are a huge new factor in change but of course change happened without us too - human caused changes happen alongside other changes.

These changes are natural and have been occurring for at least the last 1,000 years.

Check out Stephan Rahmstorfs talks about the AMOC, he's one of the leading scientists on it, and read his studies.
The cold spot that is weakening the AMOC is encroaching from the central north Atlantic south of Greenland, because Greenlands ice is melting and dumping cold water into the downwelling point, blocking the warm northward current and pushing it further and further south because it is cooling more water south of the downwelling point. This causes the lower, colder, ocean currents heading south to Antarctica to be further weakened because the upper warm current heading north is more disjointed and away from the downwelling point because the cold water is encroaching from the north moving southward, this is causing a widening of the northern cold interchange area where downwelling happens.
I'll rephrase, The northern atlantic downwelling is being weakened because it's being disjointed due to ice melts in Greenland over the last hundred years further flooding the upper warm current with cold water.

The AMOC is not the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream is being split and it is being warmed and pushed further against North America towards New England and Canada while the eastern side by the UK and Ireland does something else entirely, this is because the cold spot that is weakening the AMOC is encroaching from the central north Atlantic south of Greenland, because Greenlands ice is melting and dumping cold water into the downwelling point, blocking the warm northward current and pushing it further and further south because it is cooling more water south of the downwelling point. This causes the lower, colder, ocean currents heading south to Antarctica to be further weakened because the upper warm current heading north is more disjointed and away from the downwelling point because the cold water is encroaching from the north moving southward, this is causing a widening of the northern cold interchange area where downwelling happens.
How do you not get this? The northern atlantic downwelling is being weakened because it's being disjointed due to ice melts in Greenland over the last hundred years further flooding the upper warm current with cold water.
