Mary, Thanks for sharing that tip❗️It can also be helpful to put as many as you have room for in your freezers. In a power outage it’ll help keep the contents frozen longer.
I enjoy reading comments/replies, but also learned so much from viewers that thoughtfully took the extra time to provide some of their ideas or suggestions. Thank you‼️
I SERIOUSLY needed this video!! For some reason I get a mental block when it comes to thinking of what we need to be prepared 😬 I will make a list from this! Thank you 😊
Thanks for taking us along. Ollies is a great store. Yes zip ties are great to have. I've have coats, luggages, backpacks where the zippers have broke. These come in handy!
I charged the solar lights during the day, then put one in each room when we had no power. It was great. One thing, try and find the lights that have plain glass and not fancy cut that swirls the light all over the room. Its annoying. Not a bright lite, but makes it much more friendly and can find the bathroom.
My husband got that 5-pack of solar lights in his garden. They are very nice. We spent last week at Burr Oak State Park in one of their cabins. I took along a isobutane stove, a alcohol burner, and 4 little solar/usb/rechargeable lanterns. Both Monday and Tuesday there was a power outage that lasted several hours. I sat on their screened in porch, made coffee, roasted marshmallows, and had light. I was so happy I went prepared. Polyester is not breathable no matter what that package says on that camo shirt. Put a poly shirt on a woman going through menopause during a hot flash, and that shirt will get stripped off pronto. Poly traps heat like a greenhouse in hot sun.
Hey Danno & Jess❗️Thanks, I’d never heard of Ollie’s until today & didn’t think there’d be any stores in RI, since you live in Ohio. I looked online & found 2 STORES & I’ll be going tomorrow.
I think that videos like this are very helpful. "Prepping" or being prepared doesn't just apply to food. Ways to cook it, tools needed to prepare it (such as the can opener you mentioned and knives) and something to cook it in are necessary. And can be expensive, so looking for the best price is necessary. Thanks for taking us along!
RYOBI has small fans that run off of their rechargeable battery packs and also lights. Not the cheapest, but rechargeable is great if you have intermittent power or a generator that you turn on and off to keep fridge and/or freezer cold or heaters on to warm your living space. The solar lights are great to charge outside all day and then bring inside to light up your living space at night.... GREAT SUGGESTIONS on your part. You have a lot of firsthand knowledge to share. Much appreciated.
I have 3 Ryobi rechargeable battery-pack tools but didn’t know about the fan OR the light, so THANK YOU SO MUCH for your thoughtful comment. I recently bought one of those TINY/CHEAP plastic rechargeable USB fans when l saw it at the grocery store. I was worried about the blackouts expected, but have discovered my little fan only holds a charge for 10-15 minutes on the high setting. I didn’t expect anything great from my cheap fan, spent very little money on it, however, I’m seriously going to follow up on rechargeable Ryobi fans AND lights. I’ll probably try to buy at least a couple more of the Ryobi rechargeable batteries & keep them ready if needed. Thanks again for the excellent suggestion‼️
Have mustard on hand. We mixed it with water poured it on the ground and the worms come to the surface , ready to be rinsed and used as bait for fishing.
My grandfather use to sprinkle the lawn at night, then we would go out with flash lights to find the worms. The worms always beat me back into the ground. They are fast.
Awesome video, thank you! When I was a kid, my Dad used to always do the shopping. Good thing he did as my Mom would never have had the muscles to carry the loads of food he used to come home with. This was long before there was even the thought of a SHTF situation: a totally unheard of scenario years ago. Veterans of our military would rightfully get enraged saying, "I didn't fight and lay my life on the line for this #@%&*%!" Now, with a family of my own, I shop the same exact way. I stock up on just about everything. If I see a canned/dried food item on sale, I buy lots of them. We have enough food stocked away, that if Noah and his menagerie ever showed up at the front door, he could be guaranteed to get well fed. I'm in NYC, and a while ago, the power had been knocked out for ten days in my neighborhood. After that, I was thinking of getting a generator. My neighbor has one. But, I eventually decided that I didn't want to go that route. I thought it'd be better to just have food (plenty of coffee too, as life is simply not possible without several cups of strong coffee a day) that cannot spoil as well as plenty of candles and some hurricane lamps. During that power outage, it was difficult to charge things, such as phones. I did it through the car and once I was in a store with power and asked if I could use their outlet. But, getting a hand cranked recharger ($5) was an awesome solution to all of that. I also picked up two wind-up radios as well as flashlights that you can crank up for power (both under $10 apiece). They're invaluable. I also have more than a few rechargeable lights that I use every day. I have them alongside the stairway, going down the stairs and they are incredible. At $2.50 a throw, the charge on them lasts easy, a week, as I recharge them all every Sunday. Batteries are good to have, but we don't use them a whole lot. So I always have to watch to see that the stored ones are still good - not corroding. I also do have that little cube air cooler. I wouldn't go nuts gushing on about how great it is. It's better to use that $45 on something else. In a blackout, during very hot weather, we'd just lose a lot of clothes, make sure the windows are all open and, most importantly, have and drink lots of water. There's also something to be said about cold showers. Unbelievably, we still do get power outages, about once or twice a year. They're always in the summer. But, they only last about four hours max. So as not to get them fried when the power comes back, I just have to remember to shut off and unplug the computers. Best regards to you and Jessica and thanks again for the eye-opening video!
@@bria2596 Yes, you're right! We do have a thing attached to the hose in the backyard that throws out a mist. That keeps them and the air around them cooler. But, they're never out in the blazing sun and there's always more than enough cold drinking water out for them, as well. After all, the little guys can't tell you how they're feeling.
Good video. I take my mom to Ollie's occasionally, there's one up the road from her. I love zip ties! So far mainly use in my garage. Have a crank radio plus regular battery one that has weather and 2 different lights, a compass and siren. I put my first aid bag together couple weeks ago. My nurse gave me some stuff and some good ideas.
Goos morning, Danno. I had no idea Illie's had that much! A trip is in my future soon. I have a lot of prepardneas items, but there is always something we forget. Many thanks! Blessings from East Tennessee.💕

Hey Danno, I enjoy all of your videos, with a world of uncertainty we all need to be prepared for the unowns ahead of us, weather and food shortage will be here for a few more years before things start to become back to normal, and that is why I want to get a Hydroponics Gardening system for my apartment, so I'm efficient and saving money on vegetables and buying the items that are on sale.
Nice to see the items you featured. The bungee cords are good for holding down those tarps, and I use the small bungees to hang a whole row of the canning jar rings from my pantry shelf. The zip ties are great for splicing together sections of my garden fencing and attaching it to the fence posts.
Good morning Danno and Jess. Thank you for sharing your trip to Ollie’s. Love finding treasures there. Writing my list as you share. I wanted to let you know that they are having their yearly Customer appreciation celebration 15% off through July 2nd. Have a blessed day all ❤
Pur canning jars are made in China. The rings & lids are interchangeable with Kerr & Mason. I use all brands & have had no issues with Pur. I bought them because that was all I could find 2 years ago.
Ive never used anything but Ball jars but id use Pur for the salves i make and to store dries herbs. I've never seen a tarp without zip ties lol. I use one of those plastic soap dishes made for travel, to store extra band-aids and also ointments in my first aid kit. Great video! Thanks for all you do!
Good Morning Danno ,Good you reminded me of what we need in case !!! Lanterns ,headlamps ,nylon rope good for pulling dead bushes out of ground.Of course riding mower on other end tied on pulling slowly. This is one of my plans.Tarps use for tents or to protect boats ,mowers, patio furniture. Also to store water in the bathtub for emergencies. Buggy cords good to use with tarp .Also for roof problems just good for a lot .Our boat is covered with tarp .I am going there today anyway for can goods , pillows ,mattress pads and a hand vacuum rechargable batteries. I have a large bin with all my medical kits ,otc meds ,tapes, medical ,putting these in baggies with zippers .I love Ollies back too for cat treats on sale .Have a great day .Say Hello to Jessica .
Morning Danno I sure wish I had an Ollie’s near me!! You could use those zip ties and 1 of those 4x6 tents ti make a quickie poncho with hood using the grommets to secure the poncho closed ! Wow ! I’d love one if those fire cooking books , I have a lot of cast iron I’d use to cook in over an open fire using my skillets, Dutch oven and cast iron old bean pot ! Great finds Danno and really good prices !! Also we could stick up on some of those 2 pk pillows using , 3 pks per person as mattress in your sleeping bag and a pillow for your head would make our sleeping bag much more comfortable and warm since you’d be kept further from the cold ground or floor !! Great finds Danno ! Thanks for the guide around in Ollie’s to find great items we might need a lights out problem or just when we really need an item in a pinch and great idea ti use that insulated lunch bag as a first aid bag it will hold a lot more items !! Have a great day, thank you and God bless ! ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
GoodMorning Danno & Jess. Glad you went to Ollies. They du have all kinds of things you might need for sure . Love the car wheel covers and windshield wiper prices there. Some spieces along with shampoo & conditioners are great buys. Dog food is a bit higher in price and the laundry detergent is the same in price as wal mart . Many Other items there are cheaper if you find clearences saves you money. You can spend hours in their stores for sure 😂. Im glad you seen what is important in situations that could arise. Their prices are good on the lots they buy. Many items don't come back because of being a warehouse. So get them while you can. They surely say Good stuff cheap 😅. Thanks for Your videos Danno wish we had food stores that have good unusual buys like Ollies. .. have a great day everyone May God bless. 😊
Thanks for a great video today, Danno! I have to drive a bit to get to an Ollie's, but it might be worth it! My husband is always coming up with a new use for zip ties! I've stocked up on different sizes--never know. You can charge those solar lights up all day and bring them in when it's dark inside. Make yourself a lamp by putting the light inside something like a milk jug. I kicked out all fragrances several years ago, so if I buy candles, I get unscented. You can make an 8-hour light by pushing a taper candle down into a can of Crisco (off-brand, obviously). Extra sox and underwear put away is a must. Maybe even get some other sizes you could help someone out with. I don't recognize the Pur brand of mason jars, but at that price, I'd be willing to chance it! It's time to get used to cooking over a fire. I just started and then injured my knee and had to stop. Gotta get back to it. It's definitely a learning curve, and I don't want to eat hot dogs and marshmallows every day of my life! Cast iron, even used, is necessary.
Tarps are also good to put under floorless tents. Space blanket light to carry. I have 1 of those battery can openers, they don't last long, if you have OA in your hands get the manual with the bigger handle. Or you hide what you store in your garage. We had a huge storm Sunday 100K+ without power including our Navy Base. Crank/solar weather radio. Look for cargo pants, you can stuff stuff in all those pockets.
Zip ties. I had to run about 150 feet of hose from my house to my garden out back. I hung the hose from fencing all the way back so that I wouldn't have to keep moving the hose to mow.
Thanks for the Ollie's video. I personally really like them. Got my blackout curtains and rods there. Also a vacuum wet/dry there. Hope you and Jessica are doing better with all this smoke. CYOTNO! 🤗🤗🥰🥰
@@AdventureswithDanno I know it is. I just don't understand why they don't tell it like it really is. We need to know and take the necessary action for our health.
Don't forget to look in the furniture section - I got a really good deal there on a nice metal shelving unit for my pantry. It was half the price that the big box home improvement store wanted for the same item.
TIP: COOK most of the food you put into your freezer so in case of an extended power outage, you can eat the food safely or even give it away, as opposed to having it all thaw out raw, go bad and then have to find a way to cook it.
@@pregnant9574 No thanks foods that are ready to eat? I really don't understand. It was just a suggestion. I am just concerned about having a freezer full of thawing raw meat that has to be wasted as opposed to being able to eat cooked food more slowly, not have to worry about finding a way to cook it or dispose of the rotting raw meat. ad the waste.
We had a power outage for over a week. All the meat started thawing. The gas stove still worked. So I put blankets in the doorway to keep cooking heat in the kitchen. Then just canned all the meat up. Saved me a lot of money.
That's good advice, especially for ground beef that you plan to use in recipes. I already cook it ahead of time and store in freezer bags to have ready to put into chili or other recipes. It really saves time and space.
Danno, being prepared is always a great idea. With all of the storms that have been going on, you never know what might happen. Which reminds me I need to stock up on some batteries. Today I got a bunch of canned goods like vegetables. I already have canned tuna and chicken, so I am good with that. Thank you for keeping us informed.
That little air chiller won't even keep a tiny room cold in Florida in the summertime! Lol! We have a 5000btu in each bedroom and a 12000btu in the common area waiting fornour new unit to arrive. It takes about 30,000btus for a small 1500 SQ ft house here in Florida. This summer everyone's unit is running constantly
So Much Great Stuff and What A Great Store, we need an Ollie's up here for sure.Great Video Danno. Food Savers are so great, i have had one for over 10 years, some of the best money iv'e ever spent short of my Corolla that has a legit 1,000,000+ miles and is still my daily driver. 48 hours until departure to WDW, almost packed, done with the long haul 400+ mile days in the Corolla until i return, just 2 stores tomorrow in the Twin Cities, getting excited.
Thank you. But you can get a sheet of paper mark what’s in the tote. I then put in one of those plastic sleeves and tape it to the outside of the tote.
Danno got a lasko oscillating fan at Ollies for until $40.00 great fan with remote control.. danno how about battery generators that you can charge by 110 or solar panels something to keep your freezer refrigerator going something to get you buy.. Steve from West Virginia
I have one of those air coolers Mines a Arctic Air it runs for about 8 hours It says just add cold water I add small ice cubes it's like an air conditioner when the electric goes out I love it's good to have one. I know some people out on the street that use it in there car They say it works good
Zip ties are always awesome when the date says no..... Just kidding, well sort of. With the way we are going, who knows what is around the corner. I have picked up a few "demolition tools" that can double as a great improvised weapons. As for the totes you showed, recommend getting something heavier weight. Storage is one thing but moving it is another. spending a few dollars more will prevent headaches later. Great video Danno. Be safe out there and keep the powder dry.
If you are out of power, remember you will have to sleep outside, as the house at night will be to hot. This is why the old houses had sleeping porches. A lot of the items shown are essential to set up the sleeping area. ex. Tarps and ZipTies. Mosquito netting is a must, however, in an emergency Toile at Hobby Lobby will work and is very cheap. Activity for kids is decorating the toile.
I got those garden lights at Dollar Tree last spring to replace the ones that bit the dust last spring. My thoughts then was that electric wouldn't have to be run around the porch. And I could put them where I wanted without any problem-like out of the way from the mower 😅 .
Good morning Danno!!!! I have seen other youtubers use the pur lids and they seem to work well. I imagine the jars are ok. I would just keep those rings separate from the ball rings because I have found sometimes the threads on the rings don't match with the ball jars. But they seem to be ok.
I went looking at Ollies just for that purpose, but like so many of the discount stores in KY, they have been a real mess. However, I picked up a few, small, sharp sewing scissors because you never know when you might need to get into a tight place, or even for personal reasons,(I will not say 'medical').
Looks like Pur canning jars are a brand that ACE hardware sells. And what you found is even cheaper than they sell them for. Good eye!!! Made in China and disteibuted by a company in Colorado.
The Air Coolers don't work well in high humidity unless you keep them extremely close. Freeze the packs instead of just plain water. They don't last long though. They have the ones that go around the neck but still not good in high humidity areas but good to have some air flowing around your face. Battery packs. Yes, buy several. Besides charging phones you can get small rechargeable battery operated fans. Lights are good and so are candles. The headlamp ones are really good to keep your hands free. Good for elderly that need both hands for balance. The smaller fridge is good but have the larger solar battery to keep it going. Who wouldn't want a cold soda lol. Through my experience, ice at stores are gone very quick. Diabetics need to keep their insulin cold. They can also buy the smaller fridge packs that are rechargeable but they are pricey. Always keep your gas tank pretty full. The AC in there may be vital for the sick and elderly.
Great info. I have an Ollie about 25 minutes away from my home here in CT. A lot of good ideas to add to my prepping. If we have supply issue with China these items you highlight will vanich.
Pur Mason? Interesting. Looks like they are using some of the same "new" technology that Superb brand canning lids have. For Jars are a brand quite a few canners recommend as well. Dollar General often carries Golden Harvest which is good too. I will have to test these Pur ones out and let you know what I think. Picked those same camo pants, one children size, one women's size at my Ollie's for $5.99 a couple of weeks ago for my daughter.
I took my solar garden lights from outside back indoors to use when our power went out last time. Tarps are great for rain or to put over gardens, or to block sun. Or for blood spatter. Just kidding but yes totally useful things
If you keep empty milk jugs, fill them up with water and freeze them. They keep things cold in cooler for days.
That's smart!
I was just filling up milk jugs with water to do that last night
Mary, Thanks for sharing that tip❗️It can also be helpful to put as many as you have room for in your freezers. In a power outage it’ll help keep the contents frozen longer.
I fill up plastic bottles ( water and soda) and freeze them they take up less space and last as long 😊
When they melt you could drink them.

Thank you! Great tools! She says hello!!
I'm loving the prepping content and talk!
Just saw advertised that Ollies is having a 15% off store wide sale.
😃👍
I get coupons in the mail and always use it
Morning Danno I sure wish I had an Ollie’s near me!!
Half of my wardrobe is something camo, I have a pink camo coat lol. I have a lot of Mossy Oak
Zip ties. I had to run about 150 feet of hose from my house to my garden out back. I hung the hose from fencing all the way back so that I wouldn't have to keep moving the hose to mow.
Danno thanks for going to Ollie's this place is a amazing place to buy stuff at all the time
Thanks for the Ollie's video. I personally really like them. Got my blackout curtains and rods
there. Also a vacuum wet/dry there. Hope you and Jessica are doing better with all this
smoke. CYOTNO! 🤗🤗🥰🥰
Yeah it's terrible. Air quality is worse than what the news is admitting.
❤
You are Correct!
Good morning Danno and Jess bungee cords come in handy too lol it is always good to stock up on batteries and candles.
This is a great idea because it is a hurricane season and tornado season right now
Danno, being prepared is always a great idea. With all of the storms that have been going on, you never know what might happen. Which reminds me I need to stock up on some batteries. Today I got a bunch of canned goods like vegetables. I already have canned tuna and chicken, so I am good with that. Thank you for keeping us informed.

Love those lanterns!!
I need the air cooler. Great price on that!!
Thanks so much!
Clear totes are nice because you can see what’s in them.
Great point!
Just a thought. When the lights go out you can bring your solar lights inside to use until they come neck on. Put in bathroom hallways
Oh by the way I bought ice packs for freezers and bags of ice in freezer .Chest freezers next to freezer just in case too .Just tips to help !
Anyone starting to prep needs to start from the start. Learn to purify water from scratch using a good quality water filter and purifier.
Dano we bought the air cooler . It doesn’t work.
Oh no. That's not good.
I would definitely recommend a batter powered radio. I lost power for almost a day in February, and the radio was the only entertainment I had.
Good morning thank you 😊
I have one of those air coolers Mines a Arctic Air it runs for about 8 hours It says just add cold water I add small ice cubes it's like an air conditioner when the electric goes out I love it's good to have one.
Danno the socks are a great thing to buy and give to a shelter! Socks and underwear are always needed.
great idea!
The original one is just down the road from my parents in Mechanicsburg, pa. I love this store.
Enjoyed your trip to Ollie’s today Danno 👍
Great video! I honestly never thought of looking at Ollie’s but there’s a new one that just opened in Canton so I’m going to check it out! Thanks!!
😃👍
Good morning Danno!!!! I have seen other youtubers use the pur lids and they seem to work well. I imagine the jars are ok. I would just keep those rings separate from the ball rings because I have found sometimes the threads on the rings don't match with the ball jars. But they seem to be ok.
😉👍
I have never been to this store but I will definitely check it out now
I went looking at Ollies just for that purpose, but like so many of the discount stores in KY, they have been a real mess. However, I picked up a few, small, sharp sewing scissors because you never know when you might need to get into a tight place, or even for personal reasons,(I will not say 'medical').
Absolutely!
Attach the tarps together with the zip ties.
Ollie’s is great Great job Danno 👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ollie's is a lot of fun to stroll thru, always finding something useful.
Just got an Ollie's flyer yesterday for one near me...they say everything is 15% off until July 3rd.
❤AC/DC Panasonic radio picked up at local hardware...very reasonable🇨🇦
😎👍
Looks like Pur canning jars are a brand that ACE hardware sells. And what you found is even cheaper than they sell them for. Good eye!!! Made in China and disteibuted by a company in Colorado.
Would love to have an Ollie’s in Lubbock, Tx area.
If you continue doing prepper videos, how about going to a Harbor Freight?
😎👍
No Ollie’s near Kansas. ❤❤❤
Ollie's is an outlet store. I hope you can find something like it near you!
There are 10 ollies in kansas
I don't know how close you live to Wichita, but there is an Ollie's there. I just did a quick search. Just typed in Outlet stores in Kansas.
@@37degreesnorth76Oh wow! I didn't go real I'm depth with my search and found one of them right away.
Good bargains. Thanks for sharing✌️🇺🇸❤️
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Don't leave us hanging and show some live fire recipes out of that book
Hey Danno....Sam's Club has great deals on pillows. I bought name brand and I bought Members Mark brand pillows and they are great pillows too!!!!
The problem is those air coolers don't work as well in humid environments plus they don't have internal battery they would run off a battery bank.
Yeah, I was thinking they had an internal battery lol. Thanks!
The best SURVIVAL PREPAREDNESS ITEMS
are found at your local liquor store...
and at Victoria's Secret.
Some things never change.
Lol
We have Miller's Surplus here in Tucson, however I wish there was Ollies also.
Wow, lots of good deals there at that store. I wish we had one here around Central Illinois.
Good morning Danno and Jess 😇 Have a blessed day 😇 Love you guys 😇🥰😇
Enjoyed this video. Nice break. I'd need GPS to get to my nearest Ollie's :( But when I was there it was very interesting.
I took my solar garden lights from outside back indoors to use when our power went out last time.
Tarps are great
for rain or to put over gardens, or to block sun. Or for blood spatter. Just kidding
but yes totally useful things
Another good video
Ollie's does have a GREAT selection of books that are super cheap!
