There's a lot of confusion between jewels belonging to the Crown, used by Royal members on duty on permission by the Monarch, and those Who belong privately to single members. Tiaras are all owned by the Country. The engagement ring was private belonging of Diana, inheritated by William, for example.
Not working royals (as M&H) can't use Crown juwelles, Catherine as Princess of Wales in charge of course does (on King's approval).

I'm mystified about those South Sea pearl earrings - the structure of the diamonds certainly looks like it but the pearl drops on Kate's are surely smaller - less round and more teardrop. The earrings look to me as though the pearls have been changed.

Meganuts was loaned some royal jewellery. One diamond bracelet went missing while she had it. No one knows where it went. The lovers knot Tiara was was given to Princess Diana as a wedding gift from our late Queen so it did belong to her. Princess Diana gave it back when her and Charlie boy were divorced.
