Thanks for the review! I've been on the fence about what wireless set up to get, still might save up for a Rode link but this Saramionic sounds pretty good for the price!
I've been looking for newer wireless setups, but my current cameras for work either have XLR inputs or 3.5mm mic jack without headphone monitoring. I'd be curious to see how something like this sounds when adapted to accept a lav or boom, but have the receiver output with an XLR adaptor. I imagine the wireless receiver has a sort of preamp in it, because I think the preamps in most DSLRs I've shot with tend to be pretty poor, one of the reasons I shoot with a Zoom H6 or H4NPro for audio and sync up in post. I'm typically in situations where I'm recording another person, or doing an interview, so I tend to run a Sony lav to the talent/interview and that right into the recorder and record nat/room sound on camera with a Rode, or/with the XY mic on the recorder, too. The lavs I use are XLR base lavs powered by AA batteries, so I'm pretty well stocked on XLR cable mics. I've been burned by leaving the recorder in the care of the talent for a wireless application, only for them to turn it off or remove the wire. (Happened on a wedding shoot, wasn't fun), so I like that there's headphone monitoring on the unit, but nothing beats 'as recorded', but I do love that you can get a stereophonic split for two transmitters. I've been toying with the idea of trying to get the RODE Filmmaker kit, but I've not been too impressed with its benefits for the cost. This seems much more affordable for what I'd be aiming to do. Excellent stuff, Dave, and it's been great to see you back on the tips scene again!!
I do a similar trick, I have the boom operator with a dr-60d recording, but the out of the tascam goes to a lav transmitter and then to the camera. Syncing sound is much easier and if there is any issue with the tascam I have backup audio piped into the camera
Nice setup. This is very fairly priced for what you get and seems to have no major issues. I have had some bad experience with wireless transmission inside heavy steel-framed concrete buildings, maybe you could give that another try. Outdoors are almost perfect conditions for electromagnetic transmission, if the cellphone tower doesn't use the exact same frequency... One tiny correction though: Your description link doesn't really send me to this exact setup (one RX and one TX with lav), but to a small connector cable of the system. It's just one or two more clicks away, but I thought you should know.
Love that you've been putting out more vids ma man! I really like your approach to things, the things you decide to do, and the way you do them. See you in your next vid!
Nice ... ha... just tried out the Zoom H1 along with Zoom H6 ... the H1 built-in mic picks up more bass (to me) than that of the H6 ... didn't expect ... The only problem for the H1 maybe its overly-sensitive nature ... even a slight touch on the table / clothes will be picked up by that little guy. Anyhow, great video testing that wireless device (wonder if it works in busy urban area... where a lot of interference can be expected)
what you could do, is buy a zoom h1, plug the boom into the zoom h1, record audio on the zoom h1 and then wirelessly send the signal back to camera out of the headphone jack on the zoom h1 using the saramonic mic system. than with a program like Plural eyes you can just import your audio, click one button and it all automatically syncys
OK. This is stupidly obvious and brilliant...well...actually it isn't, since I just went, "Doh!? Just hook ANY powered mic into a wireless system (using appropriate connections) and you're dandy!" Nice!
I think the Zoom H1 sounds better. And, it less conspicuous. Finally, cameras that have great video cost less than the ones having great video WITH a mic input.
New stuff is coming out all the time. I still use this mic system and its still working. I'm always keeping an eye out for the new stuff. but in the meantime, you might get a great price on one!
Fake video !!! watch his hands when he grabs his body warmer to rustle the sound on the mic. He rubs his thumb over the microphone. That's going to make a ton of noise DUH !!!!!
Dave this is awesome! Would love to feature you on our new Saturday Morning Special that we just started!
what about Me? lol

Hey Dave, I see you're using this with a Canon DSLR does the wireless adapter have a preamp? Are you plugging from the headphone jack into the mic in?
The Yellow Finger RETURNS!!! Great video as usual! Mic sounded really clean and crisp!
K Cams Corner the yellow finger shows me where to look! lol the B roll when he's using the finger is killing me. XD

brilliant! Great move through all of the variables.
Nice video, albeit the look of miserable W. Pennsylvania "trying to look like spring" in the middle of winter weather.

See you in your next vid!
Nice to see you uploading again!!
Great video! Glad to see all these uploads. keep it up man! are u still making quick fx? btw that is DEFINITELY a cool vest.
@knoptop , what would be a good wired/wireless set up to have a boom mic AND record straight into the iPhone 6S , filming on iPhone 6S
I been using the video mic pro wirelessly with my Senh. G3. 😊👍👍.
thanks so much for this video, really helpful and please what boom stand are you using and strap to mount the transmitter to the stand?

love that - premiere editing / listening to the audio - clip. haha
Thanks for the great vid! Now the question remains: How do you let the sound guy monitor the audio as well?? :)
Woah that vest!!!
Hi8us Now "cool vest"

I appreciate your effort.

p.s. Apparently you are also viewed by Mister "I'm bored so I'll down-vote your video" guy. LOL!. :)
Hey, that's a great idea!
Awesome video, when are you going to show us the cool vest? (j/k)
:D
BTW have you done a review of that Sigma 17-50mm lens?
I haven't yet, but I can!
Never in a million years would have thought to try this. :l
Unbearably great video brohem. I have Zoom H1. Going to look into that lav mic. Have a great weekend :)
Awesome video, my man!
Oh and also, i was wondering what the price on the system was. wuddisit?
wait i found it and just for the record, im SUPER smart. definitely not an idiot
It'd be great if they gave you a coupon code for this thing!
seems like this is as good as sennheiser's stuff
how did you color grade it?
The cloudy day just had a 'look' , no grade, just white balanced to the daylight.
I think the Zoom H1 sounds better. And, it less conspicuous. Finally, cameras that have great video cost less than the ones having great video WITH a mic input.
গুরুত্তপূর্ন কন্টেন্ট।
yay!!!!!!!!
Zoom H1 and Azden lavalier sound best to me.
Agree.
This appears to be weather sealed.... ?
its been a couple years since this video. Do ya still believe in these products?
New stuff is coming out all the time. I still use this mic system and its still working. I'm always keeping an eye out for the new stuff. but in the meantime, you might get a great price on one!
background noise is really bad
Your hands need some lotion. Great review!
I'm on the stupid commercial.........
$300? Kind of goes against cheap DIY filmmaking. How about using a smart phone with a $10 lav mic? Might be more post-work but can't beat the price.
