At least it’s the most iconic 9a, if not the most iconic boulder in the world. Off the wagon could beat it and there are some other contenders as well. It was really cool to visit it last week. The same area has some other incredible classics as well!
For sure! Yes, Off the Wagon has a nice visual to go along with it that helps make it so memorable and iconic (not to mention the climbing itself). That's super cool that you got to visit it recently... was there anything that struck you as different than what you expected?
@@augustclimbing The holds are much better than you’d expect but the moves are much longer than they look like in videos. There is not a single hold that I would categorize as bad but the overhang and positioning of the holds make the moves incredibly difficult.
@@porrasm ah yeah that’s interesting… I bet being there in person gives some great perspective on how big the moves are! It’s cool to hear about your experience checking it out 👍🏻👍🏻
has anyone ever sent the burden replica? haha if not, i guess that would make it the hardest boulder :D shawn's ascent is sooooo cool! edit: i love this format it is so informative and interesting, thank you!
Hey, Thomas! That's a great question... maybe not?! (except the Burden replica that was set on slab 😂) Perhaps the replica will become the world's first V18 😁 I appreciate your feedback on the video format too 👍🏻👍🏻
Ah that's super cool! You'll have to let me know how it goes... it'd be cool to see a video or short of you trying it out! We had a Burden of Dreams replica at Fargo Climbing last year (on the 25 degree wall I think) but I don't think anyone managed to send it. I guess if it's a Burden replica it's supposed to be hard, right? 😀 I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks so much for your comment! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi, Theo! So true... I should go back and see if I can find an episode where we don't talk about Will Bosi (there might not be one 😂) And I definitely thought of you as I was including the trad section. I've gotta learn more about the E grades, haha, but trad climbing is so impressive especially at the top end!
Hi, Junyu! Good thinking... it seems like Will Bosi's replica posts and then his eventual livestreams at the real boulder really catapulted Burden back into the spotlight. And yeah, the simplicity of it being a relatively short, overhung boulder, with tiny holds, helps make it understandable. It looks a lot like a board climb, which also makes it conducive to setting a replica 😀 I'm glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏻👍🏻
Alphane is definitely the most popular v17 in terms of climbers legitimately trying it, in terms of total people feeling holds and pulling on probably ROTSW
Hi, Alex! Yeah, definitely Alphane is right up there too… it’s perhaps more accessible than Burden in terms of location and has seen a lot of attempts overall. And with ROTSW having an iconic stand start and being located in a popular climbing area… lots of action there as well! Thanks for your comment 👍🏻👍🏻

love the longer style video!
Hi, Andrew! I'm glad you enjoy the longer style... that's helpful feedback to hear! I appreciate you taking the time to comment 👍🏻👍🏻

@@augustclimbing haha true, you can always make it a grade harder by putting it on a steeper wall :D
We have the Burden replica at TCH Exeter, set on 20degree, which we are told make it V9/V10 - psyched to try it tomorrow!
Great video August!

@@augustclimbing ye to non Brits (or non trad climbers) they are very confusing but you get used to them 😂
I think burden is most popular given the coverage n how it made v17 understandable to the ppl lol great vid !
