@@justin_g6187we can say Sokka is the "avatar" of non benders martial arts:water tribe style combat, kioshi warriors combat style from the earth kingdom and sword techniques from the fire nation.
Stick with it ladies: the show gets even better - and more mature - without losing its comedic edge. In fact, I think it gets even funnier as time goes on, too.
The technology is kind of pre-industrialization. The Earth Kingdom is agrarian, the Water Tribes mostly tribal, the Air Nomads were nomads and monks of course. The Fire Nation is a rapidly industrializing dictatorship. The firebending clearly gives them an edge when it comes to metalwork and they have steam engines in their ships (probably aided by firebending). As I see in the video description you guys are up to episode 17, so you've met the man who spearheads the invention of some of the craziest war machines the fire nation comes up with.
I just pictured filming a few of these back to back and going: "That's all for today, see you next time" *beat* "Hi, guys! Welcome back" and record the next episode.
So far reviewers have been in 3 camps. Camp 1, the "he better not rat Haru out" camp. Camp 2, the "I hope nobody saw Haru bend" Camp. Camp 3, the "This is a trap set up by the 🔥 nation" Camp. Seems its Camp 1 is the biggest with 3 being the smallest.
I can’t believe that Shyamaladingdong take one look at this episode and said; I could create a a better prison than these numbnut, but taking a village full of earth bender and put in a prison that surrounded by earth
10:45 George Takei the voice actor who did the warden spent his childhood in the US internment camps for Japanese Americans. I think he may have based his version of the warden of actual wardens he's experienced.
Why will people keep saying complex things can't happen in a kid show when we had the 12 years old protagonist finding the dead body of his former teacher and friend surrounded by a whole bunch of other corpses 3 episodes ago? 🤣
Keep in mind Book One feels the most like a "kids show"* because the writers were setting up all the world building. It's what also makes it seem slower but makes the other 2 seasons so good. Had they not taken the time to establish the lore and fantasy system, it wouldn't be as good. If you keep that in mind, it could make it more enjoyable. :) * [never mind that they touch on **genocide** by episode 3]
While I kind of agree, there's no reason setting up the world has to be childish. I think it's more because the writers were ironing out their style, and couldn't dial up the maturity level quite so high given that they were a new show. I imagine Nickelodeon was stricter about the violence and dark themes in Season 1.
After you’ve seen the entire thing, you’ll know that it’s a perfect show. As good as the first season is already (and sometimes childish) it’s nothing compared to season 2 and 3 though!
I think Season 2 was the high water mark, myself. Season 1 has some standout moments, but hasn't aged quite as well, probably because the writers were still getting their bearings. Season 3 feels rushed. I still feel robbed that we didn't get more time with Zuko after he shifts gears. And I felt that the way Aang "completed" his arc was a liiiiiiittle bullshit. Though I'll avoid spoilers just in case the ladies read any of these.

As others no doubt said, the warden is played by George Takei, who spent part of his childhood on a WW2 internment camp along with all the other Japanese-Americans. Just in case the subtext of this episode wasn't obvious enough. The fire bending gives them a jump in technology, both in metal refinement, and to power steam devices. If they don't have enough coal, they can just use their bending!
The Episode full of Tee Shirt Worthy Quotes, My Favorites are, "Don't worry, I hear Cowards Float" (Tyro) Earthbending Style (Katarra) and "Throw me Some Coal", From Aang.
Earthbending involves striking the ground with the hands or feet. It adapts from Northern Shaolin, Judo, and Shaolin wrestling. Earthbender skills allow them to farm hillsides and uneven terrain.
As cool and chill as Apa always is, you gotta imagine maintenance is a BIG effort because (and I know owners of Shepherd dogs, Scottish Terriers, Golden Retrievers and other hairy dogs can agree with me on this) Aang would have to every so often do a big little butt hair trim for his Flying Bison bestie. Eww!! But still sweet.
Don't underestimate this show. It didn't get its reputation from just being a kids show. Your point about metal is incorrect and will be covered later on. Just assume everything has been thought of already and only judge it after you have seen that it has not been considered properly. Going in assuming the show is dumb is the wrong mindset.
@@mitsukitai2713 not really. i didnt say how or when. Spoilers Below If two ppl in the show just randomly talk about why earth benders cannot bend metal that is not spoiling much. Two things that can break a human's spirit are years spent in war, and years spent in prison. One of the things that you have to keep in mind is that the war has been going on for 100 years. These people are fighting the same battle that their grandparents were in. And it is the people of the Earth Kingdom who have been taking the most damage. They are tired, both physically and spiritually, and just want this whole thing to be over.

it seems everything is high tech but if you notice they are all fire nation ships. Avatar the last airbender universe is set in place in the middle of industrialization for fire nation, who throughout the 100 years of war against other nations built some impressive infrastructure and steam engines which is the hallmark of early industrializaition in western nations. Also, earthbending different forms of earth (metal, copper, etc) is considered to be diffiuclt and something only powerful earthbenders can achieve. Hope this helps clear up some confusion
In half of these you use to lament not having enough to talk about so I was going to suggest 2 episode back to back since there's a lot of avatar content in the works, not to mention Korra but you're already 10 episodes ahead😅
