Only now do I feel I can say why this video is shown. When it was made in January 2020 my wife Meryl was at a low with the big C, and I secretly put together some of our relatives and closest friends as a surprise, with the F & H boys who she loved dearly. You will have seen her at the end showing her joy. She passed away three weeks later at end of May. I get solace now from it, and it really is a very splendid piece of inspired playing. Norman Gibson
I've popped back and, my goodness, so many more lovely people have made such nice comments. Thank you all so much. I came across this lengthy rendition of Si Tu Vois Ma Mere today, 11:56 minutes, which should be nice to relax to. I hope many will enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/iwOQL6j25xI/v-deo.html Norman
This was the perfect song to open "Midnight in Paris" by Woody Allen. A haunting melody that plays in my head when I walk through the back streets of Paris.
This performance is in that special group of songs that touches one's very SOUL and HEART right to the core and one feels so darn lucky and blessed to have enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
Bechet lives. That has made my day. Beautiful rendition. Make sure you have a HAPPY happy birthday with Mrs Gibson's steak pie and two or three shandies All the very best to you both.
I turned 60 the other day and if this is the kind of music you get played to you in a home I can't fn wait to be in one! This is wonderful stuff. Loved it.
Wonderful! And so lovely to see how happy your wife was to enjoy the music ❤ This piece also reminds me always of one of my favourite films - Midnight in Paris - with this piece as the intro played (presumably) by Sidney Bechet himself
Oh! I am so sad to read Mr. Norman Gibson very touching comment..... Got all teared up...... With the wonderful playing of these guys. (Totally in love with Ewan Bleach). Thank you so much for sharing this. xx
What a wonderful gesture, you could not have chosen a better piece of music nor musicians for your late wife. My sincerest condolences for your loss. Your wife is now up there listening to so many music greats, she is in good company. From a fellow musician in Tasmania Australia. 🎼🇦🇺🦘
Thankyou I regret I am not a musician, just an aged jazz evening promoter, who very much enjoys booking and encouraging the young who are now keeping 'our' music alive
@@normangibson5657 - I should have said a long retired musician, turned 84 on the 1st this month. My wife is a singer and over the years she has done similar requests for friends on their final journey-as she sings with a small group who also visit aged care homes etc. Music is such a panacea and to many of us, it expresses a depth of feeling not everyone benefits from. The Frog & Henry style has always been mine too in the old traditional styles. Even used to have a 'skiffle' group during my RAF days in the mid 1950's. Also a promotor of Trad Jazz across Tasmania when I was active in the promotion aspect.
Keep it going. I'll hit 87 next May and it's only a number. I'm going a half hour drive to See Ewan Bleach Quintet tomorrow evening if weather stays good. Check out Fest Jazz Brittany 2022 to see line up in preparation for end of July, Trevor helps and promotes the younger bands. See French band 'Mama Shakers' for example. Best Norman
This tune is very very nice played. Congratulations for this; I hope as Norman life is now "clean" (sorry : I understand not english. BjOEST WISHES TO YOU ALL; Jo Luttringer, Chris Barber and Pat Halcox Close friend since january 1961
Deeply touching background Norman and thank you for sharing both this and the wonderful duet. One can fully understand Meryl's love for this performance and the F & H 'boys.
I return to this quite often myself, for an obvious reason, and I am so very pleased so many of you are finding, enjoying and getting comfort from it. As jazz fans you will be familiar with the very old tune 'San', so here are the F & H boys rendering of it to liven up your day.
Whats wrong with you guys ? there are so many videos void of any talent that get FAR MORE comments , and this video. where I am struggling to find a superlative high enough to do it justice has 84 comments. even one my videos have over 1000 comments made by some great people
Fantastic playing, shame about the folks chatting away, why are they there if not listening to these superb musicians, they really pee me off, it is an insult but they are too insensitive to realise it.
When I was promoting jazz evenings in our local village hall some years back I had a similar problem. But, as I was limited to a max audience of 63, and the bands, and all attending, loved the amazing acoustics of the room, I was able to to hand deliver invites. Yappers and moaners, I could do without , simply didnt get an invite. Sorted ! Jazz promoters put on jazz events for their enjoyment, and share it by charging audience jazzers a nominal fee to cover costs, They try to break even, but, invariably it ends up costing them a little money now and then. Is Ewan playing a Buescher True Tone Soprano here? Lovely sound.
Please, what is the name of this guitar? (from Italy) - Per favore quale è la marca di questa chitarra ? Grazie!
A wonderful tribute to your late wife. Thank you.
Lovely lip glissando , especially on the soprano sax , but the duo with clarinet really suits Bechet’s composition
