The amount of intolerance in the U.S. astounds me. I grew up in Central/Southern Mississippi, and I thought I saw racism growing up. It was NOTHING compared to what it is today. America is a mix of all the possible races you could think of. Nowadays, I'd say you are American if you are American citizen. Mentally American is a different thing. I live in Finland, and we have a lot of immigrants, and some descendants of immigrants or mixed-race people, and some people can't seem to understand how someone can be for example black, born in Finland and speak Finnish perfectly, no accents or anything. It's kinda new here, but still. If you have the paperwork proving that you are a citizen of Finland, then I think you are Finnish. It means you're not a tourist or just staying for couple of years (like for school), that you actually live here. Also, mentally Finnish is a different thing.

Native Americans are the only "real" Americans, if we talk about race only. All the rest of the people in America are immigrants or descendants of immigrants. America is a mix of all the possible races you could think of. Nowadays, I'd say you are American if you are American citizen. Mentally American is a different thing.
I live in Finland, and we have a lot of immigrants, and some descendants of immigrants or mixed-race people, and some people can't seem to understand how someone can be for example black, born in Finland and speak Finnish perfectly, no accents or anything. It's kinda new here, but still. If you have the paperwork proving that you are a citizen of Finland, then I think you are Finnish. It means you're not a tourist or just staying for couple of years (like for school), that you actually live here. Also, mentally Finnish is a different thing.

Now, I'm not a fan of pageants, I think that they objectify women, but if a woman wants to enter one of these, more power to them.
