Mostly agree on the Nicholas Cage thing, but I actually really enjoyed his performance in Willy's Wonderland in particular. Having an entirely physical performance in an otherwise normally scripted film really brought attention to it and got me noticing just how *intentional* it all felt (by the way the lack of speech was his idea, apparently). He's a great physical actor and it really got me invested in the implied life story of this random janitor in a silly B movie. It felt surprisingly lifelike to me as an autistic person. I'm not always very directly emotive and the way I move and act is often a bit at odds with people around me. That's kind of the way the performance felt to me. Taking into account the little hints that his character had a personal connection to the place and likely an axe to grind, the whole character just filled in for me. Like a sort of literal exorcising of personal demons by this mute janitor. The movie probably wouldn't be very memorable without him, but damn if I can't get it out of my head now.
I agree with this sentiment. I get he's known for being boisterous but the badass polar opposite character he was given didn't detract from the experience. The movie might've been funnier if he was screaming AND fighting, but then it takes away from the balance I feel they were going for in this cliche'd but self aware horror film.
I strapped in to watch Willy’s Wonderland so I could make fun of it the whole time and I found myself totally enthralled with Cage’s acting. It was an insane-feeling experience. I really liked it.
Nick Cage in fact, did not say a single word in Willy's Wonderland. The script originally had very little dialogue for his character and he said to just remove the few lines he did have, he thought it would be an interesting acting challenge.
i worked a different film fest showing of hundreds of beavers in wisconsin that the lead actor, director, and a couple other crew/cast members attended and throughout the movie the lead actor ran around the stage, chugged a couple cans of beer and went nuts (all while wearing the racoon hat). it was great
I unironically love the Star Wars Holiday Special, I watch it every year with my partner for Christmas and it's delightful. Please review it if you watch it Adum!
You could already tell with RackaRacka's youtube content that they had great filmmaking talent even if their content wasn't to your liking. Talk to Me being a professional and well made film is really cool to see, but isn't all that surprising.
@@rudeboyspodcastdid you watch it, or are you just parroting Adam? Talk to Me is like 95 minutes long. It goes by in a flash. Not everything is a TikTok video.
Only knew the Racka twins via the Cold Ones episode where they go to Coober Pedy and William Creek, the idea that those two rowdy dudes were actually horror director talents is absolutely doing my head in. The juxtaposition alone... What a small world. Also, if you haven't seen that video, you should, it's awesome Edit* Watched Talk to me for the first time and, as a super picky horror person, its amazing. I think certain cutural elements of characters might have slipped by Adam, as the character are far from boring. I'm australia and know people and parents exactly like in the movie, I get the "Oi, what the fuck are you all doing?!' vibe when someone at a party is in a bad way immediately. I laughed like it was Tarantino's death proof during characters scenes because it felt so comfy and 'Home'. I've met these people, lived these scenes, so seeing these characters for whom I see so many of my own friends suffer is gut wrenching. Legit, I lauged, cried and had a pit in my stomach so many times. The threat and danger is legitimate, it's also a great analogy to Australia's piss poor culture and treatment of addiction and mental illness. It wasn't a magic hand but I saw quite a few people get fucked up beyond recovery due to drugs and alcohol. *Spoiler* The scene when the younger brother tries it and gets fucked up is upsettingly common in Australia, everyone knows someone like that. They took bad pills at a festival, got the wrong tabs, over did the nangs, drunk drove or fucked out on straight up angel's tears mixed with battery acid. It had me hyperventilating because I've been there, screaming for someone to call an ambulance while trying to keep a, seemingly possessed, friend from Christoper Reeveing themselves after taking something fucked. The characters also aren't dumb, legit, they exhaust every option and act how 16-18 year olds australians would, the entire movie takes place in under a week. Australia does and doesn't have a lot of authority. There are normal systems but also and air of 'eh'. A lot of 'the community will handle it' type mentality, many rural town ppolice stations are actually entirely unmanned. Domestic violence and addiction is VERY bad here So You have a magic ghost hand that makes you crazy..... welcome to australia. There's thousands of people going through an equal level crisis WITHOUT supernatural shit going on and they aren't getting help. If a homeless schitzophrenic cant do anythiong, what hope do a bunch of teens, a week's time and a magic hand have? The hand is just a stand in for a giant fucking hole of despair in australia that is VERY real for way too many people
As someone who watched the Holiday Special in college under decent (not ideal) circumstances, it was a mind fuck. I was laughing my ass off for a half hour straight, before it just wore off. It never got less weird, and parts certainly pick up, but it starts to feel like a bad trip. Like, it’s crazy and wacky and horrific and amazing but to what end? Definitely still watch it and do an Adum and Pals video, you’d definitely get more mileage than me.
You KNOW that there's a clause in the deal that Lucas did with Disney that says that they can't release the original cuts of SW and the Holiday Special. There 100% has to be.
With films like Aporia, it really just goes to show how amazing Steins;Gate is when it comes to time travel. I dont think there will be another story that uses it so effectively then that one
@@rgw7345 I am more talking about what they do with time travel and how it works with the story. I dont really care too much with the how they do it, more so what they do with it xD
@@rgw7345 "They microwaved a banana" is the equivalent of people who have never watched Goodfellas saying "They liquefied onions". Those scenes are famous but they have very little to do with the overall plot. The banana was in a few episodes and then they moved the plot past it once they figured it out.
So for Sympathy for the devil, it was shot at VU virtual production studio here in Vegas and VU is supposed to shoot A and B frames where the A frames would be the background and the B frames would be greenscreen. That way they can adjust the the background footage while maintaining the lighting from the LED's. idk how the desync could have happened because as you mentioned they could've adjusted the street footage with the B frame greenscreen. but what was neat was that they booked the studio for 7 days and finished in 5 they used the 6 day for extra coverage and whatnot and they only used half of the day for the 6th day. this technology is very cool but it's still new. VU wanted our school to have a Volume screen installed which is where I learned all this info.
Yes! Was waiting for this review whole year! Am glad Adam reviews films that are not mainstream. I am introduced to many other great films from you. Thank you YMS!
A lot of the "dumb" (bad) decisions the main character in Talk to Me makes can be attributed to addiction, since the film is definitely a metaphor for such. I therefore think her actions are pretty understandable. Perhaps Adam didn't get this?
The holiday special is brutal. It will drive you mad unless you watch it with others and can enjoy their suffering. Please invite friends who haven't seen it.
So I just finished watching Lake Michigan Monter based on your recommendation and had an absolute blast. Seriously, give this movie a watch! Thanks for tuning me into this. 👍
Nice video. Thank you. You're commentary put a number of films on my radar. I especially look forward to being able to watch Hundreds of Beavers with a group. Raging Grace and Aporia. Holy cow. Should I ever make a film, you're on the list of people I'll attempt to consult with prior to beginning production. Content is king. I'll never understand how someone begins to work on a project without it being planned - or without having (talented) others review various aspects of the project... let alone backing films that have budgets of tens of millions of dollars or more. I mean, c'mon. There's NO excuse.
As someone who struggled with drug addiction in high school, I felt like I could relate to the teens in “Talk to Me”. I was constantly doing things I knew weren’t good for me, and I hurt my friends and family by doing so. Although I was maybe not as stupid as the characters in this movie, it sorta felt appropriate to me.
They showed something I almost never seen in a movie . Nic Cage cuffs the man . The man undoes one of his cuffs and then instead of letting it hang . HE CLIPS IT BACK ON HIS OWN ARM I don't think I've ever seen this in a movie . They always let it hang
When you said "bird hostage", my brain immediately conjured up a documentary about Eric Bischoff still stuck in his old office selling for Sting's guard bird
The hundreds of beavers shot of the horde of beavers chasing a guy reminds me of that Dom Joly show Trigger Happy TV where they'd prank people by doing the same thing
The graphic for "Raging Grace" has that kind of feeling attached to it that you aren't supposed to respect the people behind the movie whatsoever. It's the kind of trite shite that SCREAMS "I HAVE A RIDICULOUS EGO THAT YOU SHOULD TAKE SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!"
I really enjoyed late night with the devil. It is kind of stupid fun but I think it justifies it's runtime with some great setups and payoffs even if they are a little formulaic.
I know this isn't a vid about Willy's Wonderland but I reject the notion that Nic Cage wasn't used well in that movie. If you placed any other actor in that role would've been absurd but with Nic it just works. lol It was a great hungover watch with my friends but other than Nic being a quiet weirdo in it I don't remember anything else.
it kind of drives me more crazy than Nicolas Cage, that at 25:06 - 25:08 the background skips to repeat itself in Sympathy for the Devil Also thanks for the festival report Adam ;]
Lovely, Dark, and Deep was the only movie from this last that I managed to catch and yeah, couldn't agree more. There were some fun ideas buried inside an absolute slog of a first and second act.
@YMS what did you think of the whole anti drug messaging in Talk to Me? I liked the movie but that seemed a bit heavy handed to me but overall it was a really fun movie. Ending was great too.

Why do you have a TNO Yagoda picture in the background?
Please review it if you watch it Adum!
why is there a TNO reference in this video lmfao
i like the TNO yagoda portrait btw
You could already tell with RackaRacka's youtube content that they had great filmmaking talent even if their content wasn't to your liking. Talk to Me being a professional and well made film is really cool to see, but isn't all that surprising.
Now all they gotta do is cut out the boring stuff and they'll make an even better movie
@@rudeboyspodcastdid you watch it, or are you just parroting Adam? Talk to Me is like 95 minutes long. It goes by in a flash. Not everything is a TikTok video.
@@rudeboyspodcastWhat boring stuff?
@@rudeboyspodcast agreed the character development draggggged
IS THAT A MOTHERFUCKING TNO REFERENCE!!!!1!?
Why is TNO's Genrikh Yagoda staring at me from Adam's set
Can we talk about that Yagoda behind?
Only knew the Racka twins via the Cold Ones episode where they go to Coober Pedy and William Creek, the idea that those two rowdy dudes were actually horror director talents is absolutely doing my head in. The juxtaposition alone...
What a small world.
Also, if you haven't seen that video, you should, it's awesome
Edit* Watched Talk to me for the first time and, as a super picky horror person, its amazing.
Domestic violence and addiction is VERY bad here
So You have a magic ghost hand that makes you crazy..... welcome to australia.
There's thousands of people going through an equal level crisis WITHOUT supernatural shit going on and they aren't getting help. If a homeless schitzophrenic cant do anythiong, what hope do a bunch of teens, a week's time and a magic hand have?
The hand is just a stand in for a giant fucking hole of despair in australia that is VERY real for way too many people
4:09 why is TNO genrikh yagoda portrait there!?!?!?!
Why is Genrikh Yagoda of all people in the background??
Someone's enamoured with TNO brainrot
Is that a fucking TNO reference?
dengist economy
You KNOW that there's a clause in the deal that Lucas did with Disney that says that they can't release the original cuts of SW and the Holiday Special. There 100% has to be.
Why is there a TNO Yagoda portrait behind Adum?
Hundreds of Beavers looks amazing, very excited to check it out based on this video
0:08 OMGGGHH IS THAT YAGODACHAD???????
Yagodachads keeps winning
WHY IS YAGODA THERE XD
With films like Aporia, it really just goes to show how amazing Steins;Gate is when it comes to time travel. I dont think there will be another story that uses it so effectively then that one
Bro, they microwaved a banana, and they acted like it was a normal thing.
The banana was in a few episodes and then they moved the plot past it once they figured it out.
wtf is that hoi4 portrait back there, is that from kaiserreich or tno?
TNO.
what's Yagoda doing there 0:08
So for Sympathy for the devil, it was shot at VU virtual production studio here in Vegas and VU is supposed to shoot A and B frames where the A frames would be the background and the B frames would be greenscreen.
“Hundreds of Beavers” is a Classic. It just is.
Adum finally embracing decimals for his ratings is true charracter progression .
nah the real problem with shorts is that once they're shown theres no way to watch them again after the festival
It's been years for me, but he sounds just the same. Goodness, I'm so glad some things never change 😊
He does sound noticeably younger if you compare this to his Precious videos for example.
Adum is one of the only one’s with truly original opinions who doesn’t get caught up in the hyperbole. Perfect rating for Talk 2 me
You can't understand why J.J. Abrams would be attracted to a project with crummy writing??? It would certainly fit in with most of his work.
Yes! Was waiting for this review whole year!
Am glad Adam reviews films that are not mainstream. I am introduced to many other great films from you.
Thank you YMS!
4:09 WHY THE FUCK IS YAGODA IN THE BACKGROUND
TNO reference.
Hey Adum, why are you watching movies in a gulag?
He criticised Yagoda and now he's in a cell
A lot of the "dumb" (bad) decisions the main character in Talk to Me makes can be attributed to addiction, since the film is definitely a metaphor for such. I therefore think her actions are pretty understandable. Perhaps Adam didn't get this?
This film sucked
I feel like Adam has seen a lot of movies on addiction - I think there was one he put in a top of the year list.
"Talk to Me" will become a cult horror classic.
It’s making a killing at the Box office, so nothing “cult” about it :) and it should - it was fantastic.
Calling lucas "anti media preservation" is one of the most ignorant statements I can think of.
The holiday special is brutal. It will drive you mad unless you watch it with others and can enjoy their suffering. Please invite friends who haven't seen it.
The Nostalgia Critic's review of that one is friggin' HILARIOUS!
i’ll go to fantasia when hundreds of horsies and cats comes out
As a big fan of Lake Michigan Monster, Hundreds of Beavers is one of my most hyped movies of the year.
16:42 that shot is just straight out of Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi/Spirited Away
That close-up at 19:26 is a astroke of genius.
If you loved Hundreds of Beavers, I highly reccommend Lake Michigan Monster! Stars the actor/director of Hundreds of Beavers and an absolute blast!
So I just finished watching Lake Michigan Monter based on your recommendation and had an absolute blast. Seriously, give this movie a watch! Thanks for tuning me into this. 👍
@@vomitfountain You're most welcome!
How am i just now learning of the Watch-a-longs channel! awesome! thank you!
Nice video.
Damn, wish I saw Hundreds of Beavers. I thought The Concierge was super cute and nice to watch in a crowd.
I was super interested to hear his take on Talk to Me so I'm pleased 🙂
In talk to me, the knife scene had sword sound effects and I rolled my eyes so hard. You ruined me, Adam.
Surprised to see Talk to Me with only a 6... I thought maybe it'd be a high 7 low 8.
When you watch the SW Holiday Special, you know you also have to do a watch-along!
Cant wait to see the beaver movie. Wouldn’t have heard of it w/out this recommendation. Thanks!
The styling of that raccoon hat is amazing.
If Adam hasn't, he needs to see RackaRacka's Wendy vs Ronald McDonald. It's classic kino.
Entertaining watch, thank you for all the recommendations! :)
They showed something I almost never seen in a movie . Nic Cage cuffs the man . The man undoes one of his cuffs and then instead of letting it hang . HE CLIPS IT BACK ON HIS OWN ARM
I don't think I've ever seen this in a movie . They always let it hang
willy wonderlands is literally the best cage in ages
"and this was my favorite movie"... 4:57 I wonder why...
I really hope Adum watches Lake Michigan Monster soon cause I think he’ll like that if he liked Hundreds of Beavers
Manhole might be a metaphor about depression
I really enjoyed late night with the devil. It is kind of stupid fun but I think it justifies it's runtime with some great setups and payoffs even if they are a little formulaic.
RLM covered the holiday special the best !
Tno refernc!!!!!!!!!????
I know this isn't a vid about Willy's Wonderland but I reject the notion that Nic Cage wasn't used well in that movie. If you placed any other actor in that role would've been absurd but with Nic it just works. lol It was a great hungover watch with my friends but other than Nic being a quiet weirdo in it I don't remember anything else.
Does anyone know where/when Hundreds of Beavers will be streaming?
The second I saw 100s of Beavers I knew it was made by the same people behind Lake Michigan Monster
it kind of drives me more crazy than Nicolas Cage, that at 25:06 - 25:08 the background skips to repeat itself in Sympathy for the Devil
Also thanks for the festival report Adam ;]
So much movies with the devil's theme. Is there a fashion-thing here?
Lovely, Dark, and Deep was the only movie from this last that I managed to catch and yeah, couldn't agree more. There were some fun ideas buried inside an absolute slog of a first and second act.
@YMS what did you think of the whole anti drug messaging in Talk to Me? I liked the movie but that seemed a bit heavy handed to me but overall it was a really fun movie. Ending was great too.
Lovely, dark, and deep wanted that Firewatch crowd
Did you get a chance to watch Red Rooms? I’m curious what you would think about that one.
