  • A Blue Heron arrives and lands on the lookout post. The beautiful long legged visitor stays about ten minutes then flies out of view.

    About the Nest
    The NCTC nest is 21 years old, situated in a sycamore tree, approximately 90 feet up. The nest is estimated to be +8 feet in diameter, and approximately 5 feet deep with an estimated weight of over 1000 lbs. The eagle nest is located approximately 75 miles from Washington, D.C. on the campus of USFWS National Conservation Training Center. The campus is near Shepherdstown, West Virginia, approximately 1/4 mile from the Potomac River.
