I dont understand the model comparison, he compared it with bmw 5 series. Isnt s80 supposed to be Volvo flagship against 7 series and the big mercs? I know it probably doesnt in real world as the 7 series seems lightyears ahead. But what is s60 competing against then? s40 has always compete against bmw 3 series although again, not quite up there but is the car in same class with the audi 4, merc 4 and 3 series usually been in comparison tests in magazines.
Volvo S40 --> Scoda Octavia, Opel Vectra, Ford Mondeo...Volvo S60--> Audi A4, BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, Mercedes C-class...Volvo S80--> Audi A6, BMW 5 series, Lexus GS, Mercedes E-Class
you're correct. the S80 is supposed to be the best Volvo can offer, they also have the S60 and S40. if you put the s80 with the 5 series and the s60 with the 3 series, then where does the s40 end up? it's a lot bigger than the 2 series or 1 series. all reviewers do this however, specially in Sweden. they compare it based on price, not size or product lineup of the maker. it's the only way for Volvo to score some decent points. otherwise Volvos would be revealed to be the overpriced mediocre cars they truly are.
The line about the windscreen wipers being so sensitive to touch is utter rubbish. The car has the Volvo look and doesn't look the same like all the other seem to today. Really, it's hard to tell what is what amongst the Japanese and American cars these days.
great car under the skin...but is a bit outdated in terms of design both exterior & interior...I 'd love to see Volvo coming back with great design since it's the only Swedish player on the field left...
is that armrest a joke ? it is situated almost in the back of the car, so there you are, if you're a back seat passenger, you`ve got 2 armrests. good job nissan.
Complaining about to many buttons you think everyone feel the same, older people which this car is substantially made for prefer analogic over digitally. Millions of people like a console like that so just shut the fuck up and stop trying to tell people which cars to buy. Less analog and more digital doesn't make it more modern, digital is pretty outdated too actually... Feels a bit 80's if you ask me, what do you have to say about that then? And even to day when sitting in a 2-5 years old Volvo i still think the interior is pretty nice and stylish. Car interiors are not like fashion in one day and out the next. Every single car reviewer on UA-cam are douchebags! They don't appreciate simple and good old things they just want it to be as futuristic as possible. If the car reviewers dream would come through right away they would review concept/prototype cars but that is street legal and all that you can buy anywhere for regular prices. Pff!
It's funny to read this now about supposed Chinese influence. Because the current Volvos have incredibly clean interiors with good taste. People need to stop imagining change of ownership having to do with designs that happen with cars. Volvo's original s80 interior design was very understated and customer feedback was to make it fancier. So, they did so.
Volvo need to up their games. The competition in this segment is intense, with distinctively differentiated manufacturers from Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Lexus. This to me from a business perspective is a waste of company resource. Everything about this car is quite dated and it's just not competent enough to compete and make sales. And then there's the targeting: inconsistency of value offerings. Customer in this segment is not looking for bargain but to search for quality and superiority. S80 to me is only deriving on the brand equity that Volvo had overtime. And the inherent capability of a firm will not be sustainable in a long term perspective.
I work at BMW and for a 60000 dollar car and up it is the worse peace a car on the market all plastic the mechanic love and hates them depriciates like no other only good thing about them is it's handling in traffic

+tofsen12345 They facelifted the car in 2010, it's still the same car.
Tawhid Ahmed Volvo produced the V8 for the S80 and XC90 from 2007 to 2010. The S80 will be gone by the end of this year and the new generation of the S80 will be revealed in 2018/19
Yep, thats what I meant. I understand the current S80 and V70 have been around since 2007, and that the V8's were available until the 2010 facelift.
Very good car. Still safer than Germans, despite 7 years technology
Where is the drl located
All I got was that Volvo is exactly what I thought it was an that there’s no surprise if I get it
volvo 1 issue have with heavy front suspension feels not stable for that
Entertaining vid but you need to rewatch your 6 Million Dollar Man. That sound was when he was using his bionic eye to zoom in on an object! 😀
At least he's not claiming to be 5ft 11ins anymore.
beautefull car
I dont understand the model comparison, he compared it with bmw 5 series. Isnt s80 supposed to be Volvo flagship against 7 series and the big mercs? I know it probably doesnt in real world as the 7 series seems lightyears ahead. But what is s60 competing against then? s40 has always compete against bmw 3 series although again, not quite up there but is the car in same class with the audi 4, merc 4 and 3 series usually been in comparison tests in magazines.
Volvo S40 --> Scoda Octavia, Opel Vectra, Ford Mondeo...Volvo S60--> Audi A4, BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, Mercedes C-class...Volvo S80--> Audi A6, BMW 5 series, Lexus GS, Mercedes E-Class
you're correct.
the S80 is supposed to be the best Volvo can offer,
they also have the S60 and S40.
if you put the s80 with the 5 series and the s60 with the 3 series, then where does the s40 end up? it's a lot bigger than the 2 series or 1 series.
all reviewers do this however, specially in Sweden. they compare it based on price, not size or product lineup of the maker.
it's the only way for Volvo to score some decent points.
otherwise Volvos would be revealed to be the overpriced mediocre cars they truly are.
***** s40 for the size of the jetta, Octavia and mazda3.
I have a 2011 Volvo S40 T5.
I want the Volvo s60 and xc60
Swedes prefer the D5 over D4.
More power, more reliable, and still get 40mpg
It looks like it HAS to be redesign soon.
They have a new design language now.
I bet Carbuyer gonna test the new XC90 sometime next year.
I love Volvo!
I too remember Steve Austin!😁
wow the last shot of the car starting after 5:00...it looks like something from 1999/2000 thats been used for a while ..lol
This is when May Watson did real car reviews rather than knobbing about in Lamborghinis.
Its not for the phone its for radio shortcuts....
Oversized bottle*
So nothing about how comfy you’re sitting in this car?
is that armrest a joke ? it is situated almost in the back of the car, so there you are, if you're a back seat passenger, you`ve got 2 armrests. good job nissan.
Laks the glam a car of thise price should have...
You will never pay list price on a Volvo. Minimum 6-8k discount on these at the moment.
i would never buy audi/merc/bmw instead of volvo
Then, and now, better than the Germans.
That moment when you realize where Matt is coming from
Steve Austin the six million dollar man lol...
too much bull s..ting , D2 engine is fare quick, centre console buttons also for radio channels, wiper controls are very nice and soft.
I don't want a car to really drive excitng, and the phone that sounds like a you thing? hahaha.
And the interior doesn't look dated at all xD
it looks like a mini cab
It looks like an updated Ford Crown Victoria
Honestly, no. It looks like a slightly elongated and updated previous generation s60.
Open the engine room!!!
Pff!
Sounds like he keeps saying SAT and not S-Eighty
Got ya! haha thanks.
Volvo 👍💜✌✌
It looks so old and boring.
Compare this to an Audi a6 or E-class merg. Whou would possibly buy this over those two?
볼보 s80급이면 대한민국
자동차 기아자동차 K7타는듯한
기분이다.
Kias are trash compared to volvos, though
This video feels like 2004...
it looks old, the S80 need's to come into the modern Volvo's look like the C 30 and S60 ..
The S60 was designed years after the S80, and the C30 has stopped production
I like the look of the S80, it's my favourite car.
Lol, it will hold better than a fucking A6 or 5 series with all their unreliability. It is more expensive than those cars now
hahaa 6 million dollar man...El hombre nuclear
i like volvo but this S80 looks dated inside out
looks like an old mondeo
A nanny car sold in a nanny state.
Mat 😅😅😅
Oh wow, horrible. They just made the front boring and tacked on a heap of chrome trim on the outside. Chinese influence coming through.
+ssisakl Chevck out the new cars they've just rolled out, the S90, V90, V40, and XC90. They're quickly replacing the whole lineup.
I work at BMW and for a 60000 dollar car and up it is the worse peace a car on the market all plastic the mechanic love and hates them depriciates like no other only good thing about them is it's handling in traffic
This is a great car, but outdated :)
