You know this really reminds me of call of duty you accidentally shot an ally and back to part with the 50 grenade throwing nazis/russians/terrorists/12 year olds you go.
Bounty hunting in elite is a double edged sword, because you're usually not alone when fighting wanted people, unless you're in a lawless system. The ship that flew infront of me was a Federal Ship, but firing at any ship that isn't wanted will instantly gain you a 200 credit bounty, and turn you into a target. You wont be able to dock at the large stations, since they will destroy you on sight, as seen in the beginning of the video. so you'll have to fly to an outpost in another sector in order to pay off your bounty. It's an insanely frustrating issue that happens insanely often.
***** I only started about 6 days ago and currently have a viper worth a rebuy of 76k. I don't want to risk having to pay that off because I derped up on aproach and slammed into a wall :P
