Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- JUST ONE SLIDER to Add Background Blur & Shallow Depth of Field! Besides, you can also control where to focus! All of this, in a brand new feature called "Depth Blur" which is a part of Neural Filters in Photoshop. In this video, we will be testing this new feature against a variety of images; from simple single-subject ones to images with random objects or a group photo.
In this lesson, we will also learn and discover in what scenario this feature can be useful and how you can make the best out of it, along with some best practices and advanced techniques. We'll also learn how to use depth maps for better results.
I hope you enjoy this video. Thank you so much for watching :)

► Turbulence in audio at 1:05 due to heavy CPU usage by the new Depth Blur filter, even though it is processing in the cloud. Crazy!
I hope this feature is most stronger in future versions 💕
Hey buddy, how did the sky started fading when when you moved the vertical slider up in the curves section. Can you Please clear my doubt ?
Are you using Premiere Pro to edit the video? I occasionally get turbulence in Audio and it is really frustrating. I have to close any audio app like (spotify, nvidia broadcast)
Is your 'Neural filter function' working perfectly ?
Mind to share the 'AppData>Roaming>Adobe>UXP' file in *.zip ?
What works even better is a good lens with a wide aperture!
What if I'm using telephoto and I want more depth?
I would argue that sometimes those good lenses with wide apertures are super expensive. This is more of an accessibility feature than it is an alternative to buy a good lens. Take canons RF line for example. They're just now coming out with some cheaper options but even then they're still very limited. I think it has a lot of potential if Adobe can give it to work properly.
Why spend the extra money? What about zoom lenses? What if you were forced to stop down due to bright light and would like to recover the blur? What if it was a group shot in confined space and you again had to stop down considerably for focus, but still would like to lose the background? It's nonsensical to be against these tools, you could say the same of pretty much Photoshop in its entirety and go back to film and find a darkroom :)
@@omnirhythm people nowdays are always wanting this bokeh and just trying to fake it with they're mobiles or their computer. the bokeh is the simple effect of the light convolution to the lens when it's not AF, and comes better at wide apertures. if you want bokeh you have to learn about photography, not just pretend to kid with your phone.
Not always. Working with a photo taken at 2.8, and the background isn't blurry enough for my liking. It needs to be more so it doesn't blend with the subject.
You are the man! I've spent hours trying to get that blur neural thingy to work, then I saw the rest of the video. Thank you from the bottom of my defocussed heart!
@9:22 Hey, that's Havana, Cuba! I never thought I'd see my city here! Thanks!
me neither! Greetings from another Cuban! (yo no sé que hago contestándole en inglés a un cubano ;)
@@csar9097 No te preocupes, compatriota, eso es costumbre de quien lleva mucho tiempo afuera. ¡Un abrazo!
Genuinely brilliant content lad. I’m at this since 1992 and I feel like I still know fück all about Photoshop.
On your wavelength exactly. Except from 2003.
I agree. Photoshop is truly "a magical world" as Unmesh states
I hope this feature is most stronger in future versions 💕
Please make an in-depth video about CHANNELS.
AS always a splendid video Unmesh 🔥❤️
Oh man, finally! I've been having to paint my own depth matte's as masks for my post-production depth blurs, and this is a nice quick way to at least get a good starting point. Pretty soon, I assume it will greatly improve!
Long overdue feature. I had no idea this was released. Thanks.
Did you even watch the video?
@@petervdh24 Yep. I replied prior to watching the video in good faith that the new feature was as good as imagined. Alas, it twas not.
With a depth map, that may or may not require a bit of manual editing, plus the use of photoshops displacement filter it should be posdible to create the left and right eye views that are needed for making stereo photos, including anaglyphs. Perhaps you could go into details on that in a future episode :-)
WOW, Unmesh u r the BEST Photoshop instructor on UA-cam. Adobe must hire u as an advisor. I've learned all the Photoshop tricks just watching your channel and already I am teaching the software others. Thank u man!!!
I'd already played with the Depth Blur Beta and thought it really rubbish, but your demonstration of how to utilise the depth map was outstanding and something I'll get use from. Thanks.
Great tutorial, gonna try it out now :)
Wow, I haven't checked in on your channel in a while. Congrats on all of the growth. 👏
Hi great job Ive wasted so much time searching web/UA-cam for a video that helps well paced instruction giving the basics of features then expanding subscribed and like. Thank you
The lens blur tool is great if you're using files imported in from 3D software and have the depth map On a layer too.
Way better than tilt shift for anyone that didn't know about it
Finally I was waiting for it 😍😍. Thanks for you amazing tutorials 🔥
Awesome, am getting better weekly via your tutorial, all thanks to you...
You are the consistently the most talented Photoshopper on youtube.. .I wish I could squeeze all your knowledge into my head!
3:12
"Now let's turn on the dog over there" really got me xD
The way you explain is really amazing and easy to follow. Hats Off :) doing great . Happy future ahead :)
I was expecting an explanation at the end of how to do it with curves ;-) Great video!
I Love ALL your videos my Friend. You are INCREDIBLE
Adobe headquarters at the start of the video: "This is it guys, the whole world will discover our new amazing creation"
Adobe headquarters at the end of the video: Never mind guys, back to the drawing board. We need to fix this crap"
😂
Yep, can't believe they released it.
just make the machine learn from him.
because if it learn from me... well... that explains a lot.
PS is is getting worser after every update if you ask me. I'm saving my work after about every brusstroke to prevent losing work because of the crashes I get in PS.
LOL, re-Focus on FOCUS for a good BLUR
Cheers again Unmesh, your video's are awesome and we all appreciate your hard work!
Brilliant 😍
Photoshop is river of knowledge
Superb tutorials aside, Unmesh's T-shirt collection is top notch!
This depth map + alpha channel tip will help me SO MUCH! Thank you!
Wow that alpha channel thing was so impressive
Thank you for your insightful review, Unmesh. I'll stick with your more traditional technique for now (or actually using a fast prime lens) but this feature does look like it has a lot of promise. And, I'm excited to see it reach its full potential in a future release.
who's Amish? Unmesh* lol
It takes 2 seconds to search and get the name right smh
Just FYI I've been working as a photographer for 20+ years and IMHO that depth blur is working very well. When you use very fast lenses (wide aperture / shallow depth of field) the cut-off point really is that sudden.
This is an interesting new feature. ps your teaching is so good
Thank you sir !
Nice. Will definitely go with the Depth Map till Sinsei is ready for prime time.
Umesh can you do some color grading tutorials? I have seen many awsm wedding photos with beutiful color grading. I coundnt imitate such tone. hope you can help us. Thank you.
I'd suggest to only output the depth map, make a smart object and refine it with tools like bilateral blur. also adjusting contrast and maybe repainting some areas on a seperate layer inside the smart object. then whenever you feel like the map is finished copy it to an alpha channel and apply your own lens blur as shown in the video.
the ability to extract at least some sort of depth map from an image is a great start (and honestly the only valuable outcome of the cloud processing neural filter stuff)
The only teacher that i trust.
Professor Unmesh 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Can we use the depth map on the field blur filter?
Thanks boss, pragmatically reviewed. Is there a way to generate depth map outside this neural filter option? Any third party sw? Thanks in advance
I tried this with a portrait against a very simple canvas background. it had decent results, however like in this video the blur creeped up on the subject. so what i did was select subject and put that selection above the depth blur and then played with the fill/opacity of the depth blur layer to make it more realistic. excited to see if this feature improves! but the best way to create great depth blur is while you are shooting!!! lol
I enjoy ur video as it's a photoshop show.
Great edit💜
Photoshop -: we are going to add new features in photoshop
Le Unmesh -: let me explain it 😎😎
No, No, your cloud is tooo slow.
Thank u love ur tutorials
This is just a little bit better than the existing tilt shift filter.
Bro is pumped. Looks good!
Congratulations for 3 Million family🤩🔥
Great tutorial as usual :) Thank you!
It's interesting to have a depth map. Do you know a "standard" way to create such a map?
This video is very 😍😍greatful
Amazing as Always ❤🔥💯
Your editing skills are so good and video are so clear to understand! Please edit a picture of me 😍✨
Hope for your 3 million
Great as always
Thank you.
I used this filter in a photo of a cemetery, and it looked more like a death map.
Depthmaps, the 3rd dimension for bitmaps. ^^
You look ravishing bro ✨
Hi Unmesh. I love your tutorials. Would it be possible for you to do a tutorial on the warp tool? In case you have already done a tutorial on that, please let me have link. Thanks
How on earth didn't they realise the "transition" looks bad? I'll just use your method to blur backgrounds and call it a day.
Like always, thank you for teaching us!
That's why its BETA !! and BETA versions are meant to be published for further reviews. only then the technology gets mature with the help of user reviews.
@@straydwag I think it's completely okay for it to have some flaws, but do they really need opinions can't they see by themselves you cannot use this currently?
@@aocchan Let's say if they tested 100 million pics in their engine. Out of which 10 million pics are correct and 90 million aren't (which looks like a complete failure). Now imagine that those developers just saw this video and changed the algorithms again and those 6 pics Unmesh used and now the new system is able to edit these 6 pics but messes up those other 10 million? that will be a more destructive way.
At this point they need a lot of statistics from the same users who will use this tool in fuutre.
See, Developers don't make just one algorithm for such kinds of systems. they make multiple. But the final algo is chosed acc. to the response of users.
You will notice a "are you happy or not" button on that panel. that way they will know which algo got more reports and which worked well for most of the users. Once they will finalise the Algo. they will add it in the final alpha version and will proceed to make it even better.
Can you use the depth map in After Effects? Guessing yes.
I'm pappu shaha from Dinajpur Bangladesh,,,, I am watching you video.... Very nice and helpful brother ❤️
Buy good glass and avoid having to retouch over and over. Imagine if we had to do that in 40-50 images of a couple at the beach, refine the hell of hair and details and check if the sofware didn't do anything stupid we did not see when applying the effect before we deliver the pictures? I´ll never stop using my F/1.2 lenses for this tool.
Your videos are really amazing sir ....
Just got an update on PS this AM wonder if they fixed some of the short coming in this new filter?
Thanks!
photoshop killin the original photography idea
Probably he is the best among all photoshop Artist
I'd love to use it but PS doesn't support my CPU anymore, so I have to use an old version even though I'm paying for creative cloud.
Imagine if Unmesh became an Adobe developer. He's so briliant that he is teaching a team of 10+ engineers how to redo the feature the right way hahaha
There's nothing holding him back from implementing his own photo manipulation software.
Awesome 👍
GENIUS!! Adoub should pay u big money for this movies. :D
So basically Adobe said "Portrait Mode for Photoshop"...LMHO!
The depth map would be very useful for creating 3D photos on Facebook 😆
People still use Facebook?
Well I think you gave Adobe something to think about. As with most things, this is a process that will hopefully evolve and improve.
Hi Unmesh, More, more difficult selection/refinement videos, such as light/dark hair against various backgrounds please....
This is helpful 👍
I LOVE your channel! Suggestion... I want to recreate a NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC design. I once saw a tutorial on this a few years ago but cannot find it. It's a great idea because this iconic design includes so many effects in one design. You could do an awesome tutorial on this....!?
Luv U Umesh. ❤ Thank you..
This is so nice.... Am saved
Can we simply use select subject function then inverse selection then apply this new filter? I wonder
I watch all your videos not because you are so good at Photoshop but i watch them because you speak English so well.
Unmesh, I'm pretty sure you could read out the legal terms and conditions of a life assurance policy and still make it sound interesting and fun.
Right thats it I am selling my Hasselblad HTS1.5 Tilt and shift adaptor - my dark art has been replaced with an app - thanks!!! Seriously thanks as this is a lot easier and I can mess with more in post too - all power to the machine
Update. Sold it - this is better, much more controllable both in post and in camera now.
Amazing video I really like it
Just awesome
this is an awesome instructional exercise we took in a ton from this and we figured we could improve and better than this, in the wake of seeing this felt us and we will actually want to dominate.
Much obliged.
boss you are great...!
Sir you are great 🔥🔥🔥
If Adobe are making their programs reliant on their own servers for use, it's time to cancel my subscription and start using Dark Table full time. It's one thing to be subscribed, it's another thing to have to rely on an active internet connection to use a bloody filter. That said, THANK YOU very much for this tutorial. You've explained a couple things that have eluded me for a while now.
Make this man the product head of Adobe Photoshop...
I will stick with using the appropriate focal length and aperture to blur the background..
nice presentation. If i understand, even the "output depth map" is not advised today and better to continue with select subject and tilt shift ?
The eample with girl in front of landscape seems to have a halo with depth map.
isn't it a better plugin for depth map ? legacy topaz lens effect ?
I have heard that new iphones have depth map. is it useful ? my iphone 8 dosn't have it. also not sure a raw/dng can have a depth map so useless for lightroom/ACR ?
My teacher!
Photoshops depth blur feature is in the beta version so you can't expect it to work perfectly.
You're the best.
Hello 👋 Sirji
One request is their
Is it possible your all lesson is to be in Hindi
If yes then so many people can be happy and utilised your awesome knowledge
Please please please sirji
Heartlly request
Thanks a lot sirji 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
U r the boss😍😍
Well, it's not time yet to save on getting fast glass.
Very neat though.
