- Is the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid the best of both worlds? It’s interesting to consider what the book on the electrification of motorcycles will look like a decade from now. There will be chapters on the startups that led the initial charge and the bikes that changed the public’s perception of electric motorcycles.

Not surprised that Kawasaki is the first to do this. Good on them, they build well engineered stuff beyond just bikes. I'd like to try one. Will they be sold in Canada ?
Glad Kawasaki is trying new things. This is not particularly impressive but maybe 5-10 years from now we can have 1000cc hybrid that is as crazy as my ZH2 but better fuel economy.
Electric mode to drive around town with no emissions, eboost for fun, automatic gears for highway touring, all in a nice looking and classic sport tourer bike.
Seems good to me 👍
I'm glad Kawasaki didn't made a hybrid Versys. 😄
Only downside is the extra weight, but maybe it's not that bad, since it seems to be in a low position. I'll have to drive one to check it out 😁
Agree with you post except the part about not wanting a hybrid Versys. The Versys would be a great application for this platform, IMO.
@@franquellim Someone in Barcelona, at this bikes presentation, asked to Kawasaki engineers why they didnt made an hybrid Versys instead. They looked to each other, laughed and answered "because we like sport bikes". 😄
I agree that an hybrid Versys could be a good bike, but like them, i also prefer sport bikes. 🙂
And there's already so many trails in the market these days. 🙄
@@MacAlex007 - Totally fair. I'm glad to see some innovation in this area regardless. Cheers!
I'm fine with this hybrid, but auto trans? Nope..
@@cjdingz2603 You can change gears in a semi-auto way, without clutch. The downside I see in this transmission is that it works like most quickshifters. You can't change to a lower gear while accelerating, or to an higher gear while desaccelerating.
The new E-Clutch from Honda seems to be much better. 🙄
If u want a money pit bike/die young/racing racing go for the fuel gusling superbikes
If u want go point a to point b / live longer and fuel economy in style id rather buy this😊❤
Seems like a great concept for a commuter bike. But can it get me to downsize from my n1k?
You said the main purpose of this bike was MPG....and then you never mentioned what it is.
Motorcycle News has it listed as Average Fuel Consumption 76 MPG.
Not sure how Average is defined though.
@@frostpat3759that isnt very good. I had a 2015 v strom that got 72mpg. Do these people just flog the fugg out of the bike?
What conditions did you get that 72MPG in? I assume no higher than 65mph and not in city traffic. 76mpg in city traffic from a 650 to 700cc bike is quite impressive. Certainly, this included some flogging, but likely not as much as usual for press rides, as I imagine this ride was more "structured". Once plugging-in is integrated into this, that MPG goes up everytime one rides without starting the ICE.
Take this electric motor, massage it to a healthier 30hp or so, fit it onto a ZX-10R variant with slightly more relaxed ergos - call it the ZX-10RH or the ZX-H10R - and you've got an absolute winner.
# Insane horsepower up top
# Immediate low end grunt
# City center compatibility
# Lower fuel consumption
You're welcome.
Yes yes yes
Really impressed! I knew a hybrid was coming but honestly thought it was going to be a Honda, like the Goldwing for its 50th anniversary. Not that I need a hybrid sport bike, I like the technology, I thought for the past decade the C14 would have been perfect for the hybrid setup, with increased range, economy and the power boost, what’s not to like? I still would prefer manual though, not a fan of the DCT at Honda despite its refinement over the past 15 years. I just like the control a manual offers.
Future generations won't be tied mentally to ice-only power, so it won't matter. As a "Boomer" rider myself, I get the disagreement; but time, technology, and people move on...
The bike is nice and all but really whats with the telescopic right way up forks?? what with the boxy swing arm and why such a long wheelbase? looks very disproportionate otherwise the idea works but if the price doesnt make sense no one will buy it
I realize that Kawie is experimenting and it's cheaper to pull parts out of the parts bin (the engine) than to go to the drawing board and start with a blank page that that is what they going to need to do, here.
It's a good first attempt. In the spring I'll test ride one but I doubt I'd buy one as they are right now. I'm not typically a first generation of new tech sort of guy.
I can see this having lots of potential down the line; something like in lower speeds and the electric motor kicking in to dull power. Ir has potential
This is a bike i am interested in, I currently ride a 2019 Concours 14! So the Ninja 7 would be a significant step back, however, i have been reassessing my personal needs. My commute these days are less than 10 miles. My wife drives a Toyota Rav 4 hybrid, we love the fuel economy and the tech. This may well be a good option for me in the future?
Electric bicycle for 1500 bucks
Things no-one has spoken about, but are important: What is the range and top speed on electric only mode?
They said 30 mph top speed and 9 miles of range for all electric
I'm actually really excited about this bike. If the price is right I'll get one.
the Yamaha NIKEN should be a hybrid also
I would love honda to do this with the NC750 platform
Beautiful. I would make it a trike
Wish this had the option to charge from a wall, could have helped save money in the city
Make a hybrid motorcycle that has 180ish horses and 180ish ft-lbs torque.
Super Interesting
Very!
Whats this bike average?
If they can make a Concours hybrid with a 1000 and a electric engine id be down.
My decades long dream is realized! It promises to be one-step-beyond and I’m psyched it’ll be sold in the US market. Wonder if it utilizes the KERS system of F1 cars which uses super-capacitors instead of cell battery pack? (Super-capacitors are solid state, non-combustable, light weight, inexpensive, long usable life-cycle, rapidly chargeable, etc).
Honda, the innovator of hybrid technology, is watching this release closely as they recently displayed an e-Wing trike that truly is one-step-beyond!
But why do all automatic bikes (Livewire, Zeros, Honda DCTs, etc) retain the rear brake foot lever??? Not having a lever under the LT hand feels strange if not disorientating to seasoned riders. Most people progress onto a motorbike from riding bicycles and/or scooters for many years and are trained to squeeze both levers in urgent stops. It ain’t natural.
I love my Honda DCT, but had mine’s modded with a left hand brake lever from the Silverwing scooter and I love it even more.
Can’t wait to see this Ninja 7-eleven at a dealership near me soon! But I want mine to have a LT hand brake lever, please.
With boost mode it goes 0-62mph in 4sec. flat.
I get what you’re sayin bro but I’ll wait. GEN 3 ,GEN 4 maybe Not now.
No wheelies?
No burnouts?
No way.
Only until they make a good EV motorcycle.
Carrying both gas and EV systems is redundant.
Could just use the ICE to run a generator and have the power train to be electric only, that will save weight and complexity.
Cars went thru the same phase… they will realize that you cannot design an EV like a traditional vehicle.
Ninja 250 gets the same gas mileage for !1500 bucks
You lost me at automatic and the non inverted forks.
Will this be a winner with alternate ICE fuels coming over the horizon?
cheap GI square pipe swing arms , cheap old telescopic=c front, cheap plastic and paint, looks like a Chinese start up bike on amazon
Cutting corners when cutting edge tech was expected,
Sold out traiters
Every review of this nature should start with mpg and MSRP so, we don't waste ten minutes of life on random blabbing.
Masterpiece I say.
Hopefully they can sell it here in Vietnam.
228 kg ? wtf ?
this is crazy heavy
Bikes are already inherently good on gas, I don’t see the need for a hybrid.
I admit, I hate EVs. Especially electric bikes. But this. This is actually a pretty solid idea. I'm impressed they kept the weight to 500 ish pounds. I'm certainly not going to replace my Ninja 1000sx with one of these, but I wouldn't scoff at one either.
I wanna be futureproof.......
.........no.
I do not believe fully electric is the future at all... but...... hybrid tech with the gas mileage and instant torque of electric sounds very promising indeed. I even see with time hybrid being the future of performance. The reason being is the instant acceleration of the electric power I could see new track times and top speeds being hit because of it. Less time off the line to get going.
Years ago I was on the hybrid wagon. I went to a dealership looking for one. And they said. For one mpg better it's not worth it. Extra weight more items to breakdown. Brakes wear out faster. I've never looked back.
During the Southwest Airlines debacle. We rented a hybrid van. It was not charged and only has a range of 40 miles. The weight in the curves was horrible. Was not impressed. We drove from New Mexico to California. Plenty of miles for a test drive. I'm sticking with ICE.
First! 😉👍 --QM
The notion is absurd. Drowning out the joy of riding a motorcycle by adding needless weight, not to mention complexity, for miniscule gains in fuel economy makes for yet another stillborn project from the hands of the technocratic 'elites'. These people simply do not live in the real world.
If it’s true that the e boost really does have the acceleration of a liter bike then a lot of people will get it just for the pulls
G.A.R.B.A.G.E.
Kawasaki - Look at current F1 cars.
Look at the ZX10.
You know what to do.
Yawn....
No hybrid, thanks. Let's that crap to the cars, there there's no more hope, unfortunately.
NO.
HELL NO.
Nooooo. Bad idea Kawasaki.
Next, they'll be mandated.
Cool but why??? Who asked for this?
9 miles electric range?! Enough to maybe get you to the next gas station. Add all that complexity and cost for only 9 MILES! Useless.
Nope
Jeez I hope not - what a pointless waste of resources
You would say this if you don't know that some European cities have already banned ICE in those cities. This is for that
@@brianm5753 I live in Central London in the UK, so familiar with the concept. Bad policy leads to bad legislation leading to this nonsense.
What makes this a waste of resources moreso than a super-luxury or supersport vehicle? What about this is nonsense?
as a whole if we wanted to "help the planet" we should be using existing already built motorcycles rather than building new ones. Kawasaki would have had to spend on R&D and new fabrication lines. The impact on the environment and air quality? negligible for this size of engine @@TheCdubbleyoo
America be warned: don’t let this environmental nonsense into your country.
Nah
No 👎🏾
Just say no to clickbait arrows.
No…it’s not💯👎🏽
REALLY I DONT NOW
