    The straight ankle is a must have for every grappler. It is a fundamental technique that can set the stage for other more advanced leg locks later on.
    In this video I show a super basic straight ankle lock and then I show a counter that can be use against a common escape.
    I personally teach leg locks every week as part of our training regime. It's made a huge difference. I have more students using the leg locks in class and in competition. I also have fewer injuries related to leg locks.
    As my students have become comfortable with leg locks they've found the right way to control the position and also when to tap.
    If you're not working on your lower body game, you're an incomplete grappler. Period. Even if you don't want to be "The Leg Lock Guy" you can still reap the benefits of having a developed leg lock game. Either for defense or for offense.
    I don't really want to be a leg locker primarily. But I love knowing that I can defend them properly. Also I've found that nipping at the legs causes the guard player to become more gun shy and makes passing easier.
    Hope the technique helps!

    I am 2 stripe white belt in BJJ. I am 135 pounds.
    This is my absolute favorite move. Also the most successful. It is the only move I have ever used to tap a purple belt !! I learned early on that trying to attack larger opponents arms was not the right approach for me. Lots of wrestlers at my gym, they are so strong.
    Attacking the leg catches them by surprise, and they don't have the same strength or mobility in this joint!!
    Thanks for the video Chewy!!

      Belt isn't relevant. A belt is just a belt.

    Thank you for sharing the “bodybuilder bicep pose” tip and ankle positioning. Question: what would happen if he swiped your posting left foot off to your right and crunched up against you? Legit escape or would that make the damage worse? Thanks!

  • @joshgates81

    If you take your middle leg, the 'spacer' out, you're giving him a chance to toe hold you.
    In my experience it's better to keep the 'spacer' hook inside and tight, then actually back up and sit on it.
    Finishing your 'belly down ankle lock' on your knees looking up to the ceiling.
    If you stretch out to finish the ankle lock you're just giving him a chance to dig at your feet.

      +joshgates81 As is always the case in grappling. There is not a move that is unstoppable or without a counter. That said, this leg lock has worked well for me. Typically once I go belly down, pressing off the body with my foot. There is a ton of pressure on the foot and the person is forced to tap. Just sharing something that works for me.
      Thanks for the comment. :)

      It takes a lot less time to break an ankle in a secured position than to reach for the foot and find a toe hold an ally pressure

    I have to wonder, as you doing a straight ankle lock is it possible for your opponent to kick you with their other leg?

    • @hyperpretender9414
      @hyperpretender9414 2 роки тому +1

      yes but only in MMA, strikes and kicks are illegal in jiu jitsu. also, if your ankle is about to be broken, your main concern is not gonna be kicking them because they'll keep cranking on it. adrenaline makes a motherfucker crazy

    No expert here I'm new gotta question can the opponent in the lock just continue to roll when he turns with the lock like roll one way continuously or roll back and forth possibly kicking with the free leg

    • @guilhermemrdeath
      @guilhermemrdeath 7 років тому +5

      Late reply, but for anyone seeing this is not a good idea roll in a straight foot look your feet is stuck there so you surely will hurt your knee .
