  • Here is a look at the Orion with Microscope. It’s made by Sunstone Engineering out of Utah. Made in the USA. Great customer service, nice people.
    This is the best and safest way to weld PJ !
    I’m not selling anything, I receive no referral money, I don’t care about views on UA-cam, these are my honest opinions. I started in 2007 learning how to wire wrap on UA-cam, so this is my way of giving back. And I love tools and gadgets.

    Just upgraded to the microscope and am setting it up now! You mentioned you use your welder for other applications besides PJ ( which Ive done a couple years now) but I also have an artisanal jewelry line that I would love to use my welder for .... just not sure how?

      You will find many uses for it ! I use it everyday for the online business, usually I just need to weld jump rings. It allows me to use very small and thin gauge wire where I normally would have to wire wrap or something. It’s so fast we can rip through orders with this setup :))

    When you look through this microscope, is it like looking through a microscope like you would to look at wild life? And how would you do necklaces?

      So it’s not like science class looking into single cell organisms etc. but with the eye pieces it comes with, it’s perfectly close enough. Compared to the 5x magnifying lamp, it’s way bigger and closer than that, yet wide enough field of view you can get context and see your plier tips etc. so necklaces are the one thing I don’t use my scope for and i freehand weld. Honestly tho, maybe it’s bc I don’t promote them, necklaces are maybe 1% of my PJ sales. So I don’t worry about it too much. It’s easy to unhook the stylus and have your customer in a position where you don’t have to move anything else (except yourself) and you can get it done.

    Glad you made this video. I’ve been looking for one. How do you do the anklets?

      Great question as this was the one hurdle I needed to tackle and it took a couple months of trial and error. So I do “leg on table.” I use 2 chair heights, one reg dining height and one bar stool height. An adjustable stool could potentially work as well. Higher chair (30”) for anklets puts the client in a more comfortable position. I use little mat as a target for where I want their heel. It’s not the most elegant solution but only bigger or less mobile clients sometimes struggle. In that case you can jump to the other side of the table and freehand weld, but I almost never have to do that. Both of my chairs are folding (target and amazon). You also need to bring a little blanket for women with skirts.

    Thank you so much for that video. I have been looking and looking for a video on this microscope. Do you have a video on the mpulse and new PJ? I’m new to permit jewelry and looking buy one of those. Yesterday all the information I can before I buy anything. All of your videos are great.

      Hi! I just received a PJ but is was dead on arrival ! So sunstone is sending another. When it comes I’ll def make a video on it or a video comparison. I would say tho, if you see a used Mpluse with a scope, grab it. The PJ does go lower, but I’ve rarely (like never) found 3 Ws on the Mpulse to be too much. And legit I’m welding very thin wire links these days. I still use jump rings (reluctantly) in many situations but the set up covered in this video rocks. I have 2 of them now, trading one for the PJ so I’ll get a video made hopefully in the next week or so. Thank for watching glad to help !

      @@Friction-Jewelry I haven’t seen any used Microscopes for sale. I am asking is the deals on the mpulse. They are asking like only like $200 less then what a new one would be. If I’m spending that much its no biggy to spend more. And get a new machine. But with 58 yr old eyes I definitely want the microscope

    Thank you! I bought this, but I am having trouble focusing it. I was trying to focus it with the dial on the actual eyepiece. Can you tell me what that dial does on the left eye piece?

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry  11 місяців тому

      Hi! Sorry I didn’t go over that on my video, I never use that dial. It’s like a fine tuning adjustment. The big dials on the main body are what I use to focus. Also you need to make sure you have the spacing between left and right eyepieces correct. They move independently. Lmk if that helps. Once you dial this in, it’s so fast and accurate.

    Can you buy the microscope as a stand alone without buying the Orion welder? And would it work with other welders?

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry  10 місяців тому +1

      It doesn’t work with other welders. it’s set up so that it auto darkens when it fires.. via a cat 5 cable connecting the welder to the microscope. I heard it works with the sunstone Zapp tho.. so that could be a lower cost kit.

      Good to know! Thanks! There’s soldering microscopes on Amazon - still not as seamless - but a step up from all the glasses and other things. Thanks for the video, really helpful

      @@rebeccatines7180 yes I’ve seen IG photos of people using the digital microscopes for freehand welding.. I like that the customer can watch the screen. If the feed is real-time and the resolution is good, it may be worth a shot ! But a huge plus with the setup I have is the articulating arm. You can be next to someone, 90 deg or across the table… and move it up and out when needed.. it’s just the best setup by far imo

      They do sell the stand (microscope one) by them self, just looked on their website it’s $1,000 in USA dollar amount.
