I'm doing a research paper on the Morris Worm. Can you please tell me why would Morris write the piece of code that allowed 1/7 copies to infect even though the machine is already infected? It's quite urgent, so if anyone knows I'd really be grateful! Source code of that part is appreciated too since I can't seem to find it even though I've seen the full source code.
There are many overviews of the virus which already explain this -including this video. But I'll put the reason here, Morris was concerned that admins would combat the virus by having target machines return a false positive result. The problem was that he did not realise how quickly the virus would spread and that this check would lead to multiple instances of the virus running on computers

Rendoir the worm would designate itself immortal. An immortal worm would not do any checks
