As others have said, Tear came about during a very difficult time for BTS. There contract was nearly up, and they were seriously considering disbanding. They were stressed, and lost, adrift on a sea of uncertainty and forgotten self. They had grown so much - reached higher than they ever anticipated, faster than they ever thought possible. But they were exhausted - physically, mentally, and emotionally. They had lost their way, forgotten the why of what they were doing. Forgotten how to enjoy the ride. And bottled up their feelings, their confusion, uncertainty, and anxiety. Needless to say, they found their way - or ways - through. And are closer, and stronger, for it. They all had to find their own paths back to BTS, back to that place called home. To their family of the heart.💜 And all done while trying not to worry, or disappoint, ARMY.💜 BUT Tear is a song filled with Suga's emotion; his pain, fear, and love. And Namjoon, and Hobi, embued it with their feelings as well. In many ways it's an intensely personal song which, once again, they chose to share with the world.💜 On a brighter note, my first BTS song, was watching a reaction video to On Kinetic Manifesto Film Come Prima. And from Jimin's first notes (and the way he moves), through Tae's beautiful tones, to Namjoon (not a rap fan, but BTS... Oh man!) Through Jin, and Hobi, and on to Yoongi (who caught my attention). Then Jungkook.... The reactors were impressed he hit THAT note. I was impressed that he hit it - and it DIDN'T hurt me. High notes, from male or female singers, can be like sticking sharpened knitting needles in my ears. But BTS never cause me pain, or even discomfort, and that's despite some crazy high notes. That's were it started, and I'm so glad it did. I haven't looked back since.💜 I'm so glad you and John Reaves are getting on so well. I remember when John was looking for suggestions for reactors and content creators for his podcast. Several of us suggested you. We knew you two would get along. I'm glad we were right 💜👍🏻
This song is album Love yourself Tear and released in May 2018. Suga reveals backstory for this song in May 2020. The lyrics for “Tear” were written for the members. When I was writing the melody, at the time, we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together.
Im surprised John didn’t mention this song was written when the members were considering breaking up. They all cried listening to it the first time…and yes, you can hear their pain. First song I heard from BTS was 4 O’clock with RM and V…had no idea who they were or what they were singing but their deep voices and the tune drew me in immediately.
I will never get over this performance. You feel the pain and emotion they are giving off. And, the rap line looks amazing in their custom Dior outfits.
This song is in the trilogy Love Yourself, first Love Yourself Her about the joys of love, Love Yourself Tear, about the pain of love, and Love Yourself: Answer about the realization that you really can't love anyone until you accept and love yourself. Suga did write this song about the band potentially breaking up, but RM added the first verse himself, and to me, it seems more about a real couple breakup and his regrets that, in hindsight, only his partner truly loved him. My first song was Dynamite, I think, one of the live performances during the pandemic. I was blown away by their talent and performance. I had heard of them; one of my friends little teenager was a big fan and traveled to Chicago to see them, but I hadn't investigated it myself. I started watching everything on the internet about them, it was the pandemic, after all. I fell in love and have been ARMY ever since.
I was lucky enough to see them perform this live, paired with the vocal line singing the truth untold. Amazing. They def get emotional and it was really incredible.💜the performance def adds another level to this song. I found them when I brought my daughter to their concert and I honestly didn’t know much. I was so impressed the next concert was added for me. They opened with Dionysus and not today and I was immediately blown away. Plus THE ARMY! Never saw anything like it. Black swan, however, was the song that solidified my army status. I was and still am truly heartbroken that the 2020 tour was cancelled and I never got to see it live. Love Johnreeveslive! 💜
so cool that you know John Reeves and have also reviewed both BTS and Dimash.. Have enjoyed John's reactions for a while. so insightful and full of heart. Have just subscribed to yours, .... yeah. this song is so powerful. heart wrenching ...and triumphant because they survived. Love these young men -what they say, how they deal with hardship without losing their integrity. This 70+ grandma has learned to appreciate rap because of what they offer - the gift of themselves
My first time listen BTS name was around the end of 2016 some of my classmates in highschool were singing Fire ..so i go search and save me suggested by them , and i liked it (i was more like a casual listener) , but when i knew they released a new album around September of 2017 (Love Yourself: HER ) i search on here and it was GO GO performance that pop up first at MCountdown , a b-side from the album and i loved it so so much , it's just happy melody with deep meaning so i started searching about them , watching interviews and that's how i became an ARMY
In 2017 as they were achieving huge global success, they were suffering from physical and mental exhaustion. They talked about disbanding … but after taking time away together but away from their dorm apt and the studio they were able to pull through… this song is about that tough tough time… I think that it’s a masterpiece…💜💜💜
I first saw BTS on Saturday night live in April 2019 They performed Boy With Luv first then Mic Drop🫶🏻💜 I was intrigued to say the least. I even asked my son the next day I said who is this band BTS and I thought that they were so pretty and look like anime characters. So I started to look them up online and can pull a lot of really good stuff really quickly and I looked them up on Wikipedia and as they say once you start looking up what their names are down the rabbit hole, you go!
I have never liked rap before i heard BTS rap. And this is my absolut favorit live performance and song. All 3 of them are delivering , but J-hope just is something extra in this preformance. He gives me goosebumps💜
I first heard The Truth Untold. Tae's voice captured me first, then the emotion in their voices. I asked my daughter who they were and so started my dive into the rabbit hole. 3 years later I am still going. I recommended you to John Reaves too 💜
The song that brought me in was the first UA-cam proposed me: "Dope". I liked it so much to the point I happily jumped into the Rabbit Hole. I came to YT immediately after watching "Hwarang" and falling for V of BTS and Minho of SHINee (not my biases, but I have a soft spot for them ❤). Immediately after YT proposed "Lucifer" of SHINee. And there I fell in love istantly with Jonghyun, the group and the song. And fell down their rabbit hole too 😂. Have been fan of both groups since that day ❤
good guy John sending this song your way 🥰 this song is an army favorite and i wont reiterate everyone elses comments but i'm glad youve listened to it now 😊💜
My fav rap line song, and in my top five BTS songs, ever!! The lyrics, especially during the live performance, just rip my heart out and burn it!! All three perform from their hearts, and Hobi is iconic here, at his intense best - when he ends the song, I’m usually in tears… My first ever BTS song was I Need U, back in 2015, then Dope - and they hooked me for sure - I became Yoongi-biased immediately…But Jimin has been chasing me for years, and he regularly catches me - then Jungkook grew up and is suddenly giving me some trouble too 😂😂😂🤷♂️ I seriously love them all, each is a uniquely talented artist, and a really good man who is doing his best in this crazy world. I’m so glad I found them. I’m also really glad to have found you, Mike, I so enjoy your reaction videos. You are on 11.7k - that’s amazing, congratulations, it’s so well deserved, may you grow exponentially 🙏💜💜
Favorite performance of one of my favorite songs. JHOPE really delivers his heart and i want to cry for him every time. I also find Suga's feral prowling around the stage really sexy. Those black custom Dior outfits are fire also. My memory of which BTS song video I watched first is fuzzy--there were several i saw all at once. But the one i was surprised to find myself replaying over and over again was Not Today. I had never liked any rap before (US content was, shall we say, not to my taste), so i was eager to pass over those bits, but the rest of it was the most amazing anthem ever.
THIS! i had finally found BTS a few months before this tour. My daughter had been after me for years. Anyway, she took her brother and sister to Chicago to see this stage. When I tell you that my biggest regret is that i didn't get to see this song and MIKROKOSMOS live. I could cry. This one killed me, knowing what it was about, but its Hobi's part thats the killing part. Amazing song, a d performance.
The first song that I heard of theirs was "Dope". I think I first saw it in a reaction video in 2015 and checked it out myself and was hooked on the song and their dancing. It felt unique and fresh. But the song that like.. /convinced/ me to be an ARMY was "Tomorrow". The lyrics had me hook, line, and sinker.
i love this reaction..i am glad john told you about this song...not for sure how u miss this song lol. my first song was MIC Drop on their love yourself her album 5 years ago....been army for 5 years...damn time has fly by.
Outro Tear is one of my absolute favorites, the live Proformance's are the best. The first time I ever saw them was Butter. It was love at first sight/listen.
March 2020. I saw On Kinetic Manifesto on UA-cam. Thought they were pretty cool loved the dancing. The next one got me Danger dance practice. Blew me away!! I have never fangirled before. I am 64…
Did John tell you when and why they wrote it? 2018, when they thought about disbanding 😢 I was almost writing that after crying for three years every single time I heard it, now I didn't ... but no... Seeing J-Hope face at the end, made me burst in tears again 😢
Oh one of my favorite songs and performances!! Thanks for your reaction:) there are so many songs jesus i think they have around 300 songs or sonething and a lot of hidden gems mostly b side tracks like this one. Do you wanna start from the beginning so ealry years of bts or just random?
This song was to each other in the team, they were having difficulty getting along... wanting to quit, then like most songs BTS does they wrote about it to heal. you're my tear, my fear.
For me I got into Kpop around 2017/2018 because of an Anime (there was a song at the end of Blue Exorcist from 2PM that I just loved). So I watched multiple Kpop 100 lists to get an idea of what kind of songs there were. From there (when I liked a song) I would check out the group and more of their music. From those my list was made up of SHinee, Beast, Red Velvet, 4 Minute, Vixx, Infinite. These were the ones that dominated my playlist with a few random others thrown in. There was NO BTS. When I checked out BTS (they were popular) I didn't like that every song had rap in it (2000's really turned me off of rap and hip/hop because there was just too much negativity and violence with no substance not to mention the way women were portrayed and talked about) and you had to go deep to understand the song or the MV. I didn't want to have to work to listen to music I just wanted to vibe to the music. Then between 2017/2018 there were a lot of Kpop artists that were tragically lost and that made me question the Kpop industry itself and look deeper into everything. There are so many things that lead to these circumstances - parasocial fan relationships, the agencies, Korean culture, not to mention the life of a celebrity itself (if you can call that a life). This isn't exclusive to Kpop but it was exponential in their industry. I didn't give up on Kpop I just kept it at arms length. I wouldn't dive into the groups or bother getting to know any details about anyone - but in 57 years of listening to music I was never interested in artists personal lives even before Kpop. I listen to music and either I like it or I don't. 2020 enter Map Of The Soul 7. Up until this point I was paying attention whenever BTS was on a western talk show or award show but never looked further than that. When ON:Kenetic Manifesto Film came out - the MV blew me away but the lyrics were what got me. These guys were talking about their life as celebrities and not in a bragging way but a real way. Don't know where I'm waking up, Gotta go insane to stay sane and so on. After that I fell hard down the rabbit hole and haven't even tried to crawl out. I even subscribed to twitter but quickly deleted it. I have no one to show me how to use it properly and it was very confusing just opening the app to see so many posts that had nothing to do with what I wanted to know about. Either way, it is now 2023 and I am still consuming BTS content watching new stuff and rewatching old stuff because I have to watch things multiple times for it to sink in. I still keep up with some things in Kpop but I don't consume their content the way I do BTS.

My fave rap line song! Borahae!
One of my favourite songs and live performances of BTS, it's a classic how did you missed this masterpiece???😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 Best Jhope performance ever

I'm only able to listen to this song because they didn't break up. Otherwise it would be too heartbreaking.
I also wanted to laugh at you for saying it was a slow song when I knew was to come. I even struggle keeping up reading the lyrics
I have never liked rap before i heard BTS rap. And this is my absolut favorit live performance and song. All 3 of them are delivering , but J-hope just is something extra in this preformance. He gives me goosebumps💜
For me this is the best song ever made. The pain gets to me every time. They are the strongest people I ever known 💜
I first heard The Truth Untold. Tae's voice captured me first, then the emotion in their voices. I asked my daughter who they were and so started my dive into the rabbit hole. 3 years later I am still going.

Tear jhope is my favorite!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Butterfly for me is the song that got me to BTS. It still is my favorite song.
One of the most powerful rapline performances.
The first BTS song I heard was DNA back in 2017 and that’s still one of my favorites.

My first exposure to BTS was the Blood Sweat and Tears dance practice...I WAS TOAST. Have never looked back.

No.1 Kdrama is Mr. Sunshine and just one OST clip will make you cry. Gobilin is good but Mr. Sunshine is great.
