Thank you so much for showing how to compress the plate and pins with a nut. I spent about an hour following 3 other videos that just say to use needle nose pliers to compress the plate. Finally saw your vid and had the damn chain connected in a minute. Thank you!
Do road bikes also use master clips or 8s just mainly a offroad thing? And what about oiling or lub8ng a chain .are there different requirements for o and x ring
Yea road bikes can also use the same clip, most bikes from the factory don’t actually have the clip, usually that is after you replace the chain. You can get the clip style or the brad style. Lubricant for x-ring and o-ring chains is the same
@@Woodzman I ride my bike on a daily basis , do you think this can be the case ? I clean my chain only once a month ... I hope I didn't get a counterfeit product
@@Woodzman Oh I usually send it to clean at a wash shop , they will use the powered jet hose to remove the grease from the chains ...maybe that's why ..hmm .. thanks for your response and uploads, really appreciate it!
Front sporcket is usually the first to wear out so that one should be inspected frequently and especially when swapping the chain 😊 Thanks! It was cool to see a snapping link lock on one of these rivet style chains. Think it works as good as the ones you need to press in with the tool?
Some say they would never use the clip style but I have used hundreds of them and never had one fail. Racing motocross, atvs, woods riding and street riding
Hi, great video. I have 1200 km on my almost new motorcycle and apparently my chain is pulled out, it is irregularly tensioned. The small sprocket and rosette should be OK, so it would probably be wise to have the chain replaced with a good quality one like yours? I don't know if I damaged the chain with bad riding technique or if it's just defective. Greetings from the Czech Republic and I wish you many happy kilometers.
I don't know, it's a pity I didn't look at the chain tension when I bought the bike and started riding it. It was new, so I didn't care about it, but after about 600 kilometers I felt that it was looser and louder when riding. When I came back from the service inspection, it seemed to me that the chain was stretched quite a lot, so I loosened it, but it wasn't the same. The chain could be heard, and the sounds were not pleasant. On the second motorcycle, the chain clearance is also not constant throughout its length, and that's Japanese-made.@@Woodzman
I would never use the clip on link on my chain when installing new chain always Rivet link and keep the extra link with clip as a spare in emergency but I use same chain they are good
I have used them for 40 years on hundreds of bikes. street bikes, dirt bikes, motocross and ATVs and never had one fail. Have you had any of them fail?
@@Woodzman I was told by few professional mechanics that these could fail personally no experience with them as never used them always just keeping it as spare but good to know
... I have used master links from 1969 -1985 when I stopped riding. Motocross, Hare Scrambles, Enduros, GNCC, trail riding, etc. NEVER had an issue. Now I am getting back on the dirt with a 2021 CRF 300 Rally and I am surprised that my bike does not have one and that many are not using master links. I would take the chains off my race bikes, clean and soak them in lube between weekend races. All my race friends did the same and again, none of us EVER had an issue. . Jeff .

Your welcome, thanks for watchin
Thanks for being there for some of us.
Thanks for watchin
I referenced this video in one of my upcoming videos, and put a link to it. Hope that's OK. Great video, saved my sanity!
No problem! Thanks for watchin
This is a great video Frank , I use the same chain and I've always followed the same procedures that you just demonstrated !!
Thanks for watchin John!
I have that chain on my 250l and I’ve definitely been impressed at how little I’ve had to adjust it.
Yea a lot less stretching than the stock chain
Great information that will help those not familiar or new to motorcycling.
Thanks for watchin Gregg
You made that look easy! I learned something new
Thanks for watchin Steve
Good video. I'd recommend that people adjust their wheel forward before cutting the chain
Some good tips there, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watchin Peter!
I used an RT x-ring chain when I changed the rear sprocket, which lasted about 5000 miles, maybe less
The chain only lasted 5000 miles ?
Very good video as usual! I liked the way you used an angle grinder to grind down the pins on the factory chain with no master link! Thank you.
Thanks Don. I have tried other ways but the angle grinder works best
We’re you reading my mind? Just today I went riding and thought that I might need a new chain. So Lookiehere 😮 Thanks A lot 🙂
Yea these are so much better than the stock chain
Excellent fitting stuff vids you make !
Thanks and thanks for watchin!
Great video woodzman keep them comming.
Thanks for watchin Chris
D.I.D. makes some great stuff
Definitely I have had good experiences with them
Excellent Tutorial - Thanks !
Thanks for watchin
Nice chain! Thanks for the tutorial. I might have to upgrade from my stock chaim
Big difference over stock for sure. I have had them on all my bikes
Can you put the clip-on link to the inside of the bike instead of the outside in order to hide the color of it a bit better?
Yea you can, it would work fine
Solid video! Great work!
Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks for the video! Do you first get the packing grease off the x ring chain somehow, or just leave it on?
I leave it on
Nice job

Is this the New updated and replaced the "DID Gold 520ERVT Series Racing Chain - 520ERVT-120" ?
I'm not sure about the ERVT. I have always used the VX3
Great vid mate! Thanks
Thanks for watching
What is the difference between the DID VX and the DID VX2 an 3?
I believe they are the same chain but the VX3 has more tensile strength
@@Woodzman thanks. I just put the DID vx on my s1000xr I hope it will be okay for this summer ☀️ if we ever get one.
Why grind when you can just use a chain breaker? Just curious...
I have one. Just have always used a grinder and it does a fine job
Does the gold colour come off / fade after some use ? Mine has now practically turned to silver chain
I have not noticed it on any that I have had
@@Woodzman I ride my bike on a daily basis , do you think this can be the case ? I clean my chain only once a month ... I hope I didn't get a counterfeit product
It could be what you use to clean it with or could jus be a bad coating
@@Woodzman Oh I usually send it to clean at a wash shop , they will use the powered jet hose to remove the grease from the chains ...maybe that's why ..hmm .. thanks for your response and uploads, really appreciate it!
You shouldn’t power wash a chain at all. The water will go through the o-rings or x-rings and the chain won’t last long

The chain should have lasted longer. Most likely it was adjusted to tight.

I always replace the chain on my new bikes with a D.I.D Gold X-Ring chain and I never have had any issues.

Oh I totally agree that they could. But I think the chances a extremely slim. There is no doubt that the Rivet would be best

Frank, my chain needs replaced but my sprockets have 9,100 miles on them and don’t look too bad at all, should I replace them anyways?
If your chain is stretched out a lot then it’s would be a good idea replace the sprockets also.
You don’t want to put a new chain on the old sprockets
@@Woodzman thanks Frank!
