    Why is everyone in here hating on Ben? I understand that he’s had reoccurring injuries and that sometimes it might come off as him trying to “avoid playing”, but it was a great interview and he’s still a person at the end of the day

    • @joefaulkner8437

      And he never put any of these expectations on himself, it has been the media and the fans that expect so much from him. Same thing that happened to Greg oden and he struggled with “failing in the NBA” for a long time

      @@joefaulkner8437Whaaaa?.... Simmons took all that money- $40 mil per year - and he never expected to live up to the team's expectations of him to earn it through his play!? Are you saying that he was always a phony? You and I are on the same page because I always thought Simmons was a phony and he fell apart when he was exposed as such. Funny how he doesn't talk about his "mental illness" anymore.

    • @KillerJoe-p6r
      @KillerJoe-p6r 10 днів тому +10

      I remember that he first started avoiding playing by claiming mental illness. That was after he sat out to get traded away from Philly after Coach Rivers hurt his feelings. When the team didn't buy that and still docked his pay he came up with a "back injury". He has had two elective back surgeries in which the doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him. Simmons has used those back surgeries as a way to get out of the NBA with his dignity intact and now he's conducting those interviews to complete the narrative because he knows that the NBA is done with him after this season.

      The back injury isn’t the issue, at every point of his career he’s taken the easy way out.
      The guy is blessed with all the physical gifts but lacks work ethic and doesn’t want to step outside his comfort zone.
      He was the number recruit out of high school and could’ve gone to any powerhouse college program but took the easy option and chose LSU which was a mid tier program with no expectations and where his god father was an assistant coach. At LSU he barely turned up to class and missed a game through academic suspension and then just spent the year going through the motions as his team didn’t even make the end of season tournament.
      He gets to the NBA and his physical gifts afford him a good level of success out of the gate but he has an obvious deficiency with his shooting, the Sixers organised for him to spend the offseason with Johnny Townsend who’s a renowned shooting coach with over 30 years experience but Simmons instead decides his own brother who’s has zero experience besides being a mediocre ex college player would be a better option to coach him.
      Over the years he’s missed more games than he’s played, snubbed the boomers where he could’ve had some actual game time to instead travel around Europe with his girlfriend.
      Pretty much every single player improves as a shooter from high school to pros, Simmons was a 70% free throw shooter in high school, he’s managed to almost half that percentage to 40%. He simply doesn’t care

      @@joshf-w9602I completely disagree. You call it stepping outside of his comfort zone. I call it trying to change him. He was dominant just the way he was. A 6’10 Slashing 2-way Playmaker. The Sixers did not utilize him properly at all. Bret Brown was a terrible coach. And Doc is Doc😂
      Ben with the right personnel around him could have easily been at least a top 10 player in the league. All he needed was a team that had a couple good shot creators and a stretch 5 or 4.

      After high school he could’ve gone to any powerhouse program but chose LSU, a mid tier program with no real expectations because his god father was the assistant coach, he then proceeded to not turn up to any classes and copped an academic suspension during the season, the rest of the season he pretty much just went through the motions as LSU missed the tournament. After his first full season in Philly, they sought out a shooting coach named Johnny Townsend to work with him over the summer, Townsend is highly regarded with 30 years experience and worked with many NBA players but Ben declined and instead chose to have his brother who has zero experience and qualifications in the role to be his shooting coach. @msmitty709 he passed a layup and the all of philly hated him to the point of taking out news paper ads and burning his jersey, While he had 2 points and 13 assist, the main star in philly threw him under the bus dispite having 21 points (he averaged over 30 that season) and 8 turnovers, the coach threw him under the bus as well. You expect someone to have a whole off season of hate being thrown at them for an accident and come back ready to please master? He wanted out and since then he has had back issues to the point that he has had 2 surgeries in 3 years. Nobody is denying it's an ugly situation but to act like he is solely in the wrong is also comically unjustified. I'm not saying anybody owes him something, but I hope you kept that same energy with Derrick rose's post injury career.
