A bit of news out that Super Rugby Australia has been proposed by Rugby Australia. The plan includes the Western Force and potentially the Sunwolves as well, alongside the Reds, Waratahs, Rebels and Brumbies.

the NRL has 16 teams, by the look of it for sports in the Australia and New Zealand the NRL (Rugby League) is the 28th of May, Super Rugby NZ on June 13th, AFL (Australian Rules) around June-July, Super Rugby Australia around July and the A-League (Association Football/Soccer) on the 1st of August
i have 2 Questions Two Cents, in the Event that Super Rugby is no longer Viable in it's current format what do you think should happen to Super Rugby? and Should Australia and New Zealand form a Trans-Tasman league or should both try and go it alone in that scenario?
Go it alone would be tough in terms of revenue mate, I think we'd become like Brazil with their football... all the top guys would play abroad.... I'm not sure there's the money in NZ or Australia to maintain what they have at the moment...
I know you didn't ask but I think super rugby should be like the champions cup in Europe, currie cup becoming the top league in SA but it's more difficult for Australia
@@TwoCentsRugby I 100% agree, I think in Australia Rugby is far to Niche and Elitist to Stand on it's own two feet and Support a Professional Club Competition and as a Working Class Aussie who is both a Chiefs and All Blacks fans I would not Watch a Domestic Aussie only Comp, in NZ while the All Blacks are and will always be Super Popular I think the General Public are Pretty indifferent to non All Black Related Rugby and most only care about the All Black along with NZ being a very small market to cater to, Thanks for answering my Question Two Cents
@@ed4pints i agree, i think that makes the most sense going forward, have pro teams from SA regardless if the Currie Cup Becomes Top Flight or if the SA Super Rugby Franchises go to Pro14, Clubs from whatever Australia and New Zealand decide to do, Clubs from the Japanese top flight and Perhaps even MLR and the Argentinian Top Flight
@@TOTN17 all good mate. I'm not sure when rugby below All Blacks level lost popularity over here.... I would imagine it was pretty gradual and a combination of factors... But yeah it definitely used to be a bigger draw
Thanks a lot for keeping us informed mate. U r a champ. Much appreciated. Go thr Force
Always!
Great vid two cents!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
I'd definitely like to see a trans tasman comp. There would be more interest in the game. I really don't watch any SA games unless they're in NZ or Australia. The time zone difference makes it difficult to watch.
Good Video
Thanks!
Are we doing a live stream tomorrow
Hi #nottificationgang
Will the champions of both super rugby tournament versus?
They haven't mentioned it
As much as I like the Force, I'd prefer a comp that is all within manageable time zones and short haul flights of each other. There a big enough market (almost 25 million people) in the 4 eastern Aus teams and the 5 NZ teams to make a comp, all within a 2 hour timezone and 3-3.5 hour flight window. Condensing the comp will get more crowd buy-in too since everyone is familiar with all of the teams (eg. I've been watching Super rugby since it started and still couldn't tell you where all the SA teams come from. I'm sure I'm not the only one)
you may be one of the few
what if the force play earlier, 5 instead of 7
@@williamboyce9671 That's still 10pm NZ time (for the first half of the season), which doesn't make for great viewer numbers, and it's a 10 hour flight. Not ideal.
Great video as usual Mark. Thanks for the update. Great to see rugby back in Australia. The Western Force back where they belong. However....if your interpretation is right.....omg what’s this obsession we have in Australia about having to have a finals series ? Finish 2nd last on the ladder to book your place in the semi’s ? Farcical . Top of the ladder at the end of home and away should win this one.
Well said, it's only speculation but it does seem a bit daft.....
Honestly would love if New Zealand and Australian rugby goes solo and they could get more teams then maybe in the future they can do like a champions cup format for the Southern Hemisphere
My understanding is that without South Africa,'s financial contribution, mainly from TV rights, NZ will struggle to retain players financially. Ironically, I would also suggest it will be better for South Africa to join the NH competitions, both financially and from a travel perspective.
I'm not sure a competition sans SA will work out too well for NZ and Aus, so maybe be careful what you wish for. Of course if RA could draw spectators and players from the NRL, a trans Tasman comp might be viable, but I'm not sure how likely that is to happen.
Rothnie Oosthuizen I feel SA should join the NH competitions tbh. maybe the NZ and RA could link up with Americas or Asia teams to form their champions cup. NZ might get that investment from silverlake that could boost them financially to better retain players. It’s still miles away but who knows what could happen 5-10years down
Love the constant uploads man!
More to come!
Some western force nostalgia..
Real shame they can't just combine this with the New Zealand teams
i reckon that will be the format next season does not look like SA is doing to well with COVID-19
NZ already has it's competition, Australia seems to be having it, and SA even if they are facing some complications will probably end up having it, the UAR better act fast or else the Jaguares might be the only ones who will have to sit this year out....
No hopes of anything in South America you think?
I've read that Sunwolves will continue next year playing in an Australian competition. Olympics will be pushed back to 2021 and Japan's professional rugby league won't be inaugurated until 2022. Sunwolves are not being allowed to die.
I'm looking forward to watching at least two of my favourite overseas Southern Hemisphere teams Force and the sunwolves couldn't less about the other Australian franchises in the Longrun I think New Zealand and South Africa shouldn't have the The Australian franchise in super rugby.
There are 16 teams in the NRL
Great news.
I'm glad there is some live rugby on the way, hope the Force can cause a few upsets, also just read that Nehe Milner-Skudder is back in SS and will play for the Highlanders, your thoughts?
I hope he stays fit man!
Looking forward to some live rugby!
Can't wait!
The Rebels, could can so win "Super Rugby" by only playing the Aussie teams. I also would love to see the winner of SR Aus (Rebels) against winner of SR Aotearoa (Blues). Do it as a curtain drawer to the Bledisoe Game (if it happens).
Yeah that'd be awesome mate!
