83 when the 80's started to become it's own, and break away from the trends of the 70's.
Exactly. Heavy Metal and New Wave style went mainstream
Bingo! It's fun to see the transition :)
Man what are the 20s waiting for!
@Jeremy Moyer 1990 seemed like a new start from the 80s. Though by 1993 it was DEFINITELY Not the 80s anymore
@@DavesArchives is there anyway way possible you can do you video with the car commercial’s from the 80’s
Last time i was this early, these commercials were brand new! Love this channel so much. I never thought i could find watching ads so fascinating. Seeing how advertising has evolved as a tool of social control is so interesting to me. These videos have been a gold mine for exploring my thoughts. Thanks to you and the patreon founder
2:25 Church's Chicken 1983 commercial. I like watching the early 80's Church's Chicken commercials and My mom and I love eating Church's Chicken. their chicken is really good.
ColecoVision and Godfather's Pizza. That right there is a great combo.
IMO Godfather's Pizza still has the best pizza for a chain.
@@JoshuaMuse Sadly they left my neck of the woods in the late 80's. I haven't had once since. I remember them being absolutely badass, though.
@@Dorelaxen Well, I am fortunate enough to have one here... I am in the Midwest and as far as I know that's the only place where they are now.
Indeed.
I was born in 97 and yet I like to come here and look at how things were before I existed, also is it normal these give me a nostalgia feeling even if I didn't live any of this?
Nothing wrong with that, sometimes folks just form a natural connection with a certain era before their time if it appeals to them just right. :-)
Yes.
1:54 I was once roped into attending an "experimental dance" performance in a Manhattan loft, and this commercial captures exactly what it was like. LOL!
Love it! I was 13 in 1983. Small town Canada....so I watched a lot of television. Thanks for the nostalgia....all except the one for Black Tower white wine, which I got violently sick off as a stupid teen. Haha....even seeing it makes me queasy till this very day!
You bet, Trish!
@@DavesArchives okay.
First commercial is where it all started! We all went around saying "sorry Atari"
Hello! Very nice intro! Thank you so much for making these compilations! I remember buying the dvd compilations of classic commercials so thank you so much for your efforts 🥰🥰🥰🥰
You're very welcome and thx so much for being a long time friend, Gladys!!
@@DavesArchives you too dave.
Nice to meet you Mr.Dave
You too, Bobby!
@@DavesArchives you are dave.
whats good dave always a blessing seeing these commericals
It must be a rule that fragrance commercials can't make sense. "Use it before you stalk?" Even for the 80s that sounds creepy.
Lmao!!! The Budweiser commercial was weirder to me even for the 80’s 😆
Yea its definitely in bad taste. That and the "kick the bucket" slogan for a FRIED CHICKEN place. Just too much
Yes.
Pretty sure the "singing damsel" in the Bud commercial was Karla Devito, who sang Paradise by the Dashboard Light with Meatloaf. She is also married to 80's heartthrob Robbie Benson.
Great catch!
Nice.
Hey Dave! Thanks for uploading these bro. Brings back good memories. Glad to finally see your face. Have a great day brother!
Dave, really liked seeing you talk to us at the beginning of the video. Maybe next time you can give us more 'fun facts' about the year/years these commercials came out. Like maybe who was president. What was the number one movie or song out at the time. Stuff like that. You can be our Mtv VJ! 😀
Thanks! You too, more to come !
Ha! Good idea :D
@@DavesArchives go on dave.
Great selection of ads. The early 80's were indeed a great time. I would know, I was born in 83😉
It's cool to see what was popular the year I was born.
I remember that Budweiser Of The Caribbean commercial from when I was a kid! Thought it would make a great Theme Restaurant! Would have loved owning one of those Light Cutlasses at the end... What could be cooler than Jedi-Pirates! Thanks Dave!
Most definitely, Thrashpondo!
@@DavesArchives you too dave.
You have a great voice for radio 📻👏🏽
Wow, thank you!!!
@@DavesArchives you are dave.
Thank you soo much for this!
You're so welcome!
@@DavesArchives you too dave.
Awesome memories.
I forgot about the VHS tapes skipping and flickering. I was looking for the tracking button on my phone!😂
Yeah but this was Sony BETA, which IMHO has worse tracking problems as they age vs. VHS.
Yes.
I loved my Coleco. Smurf and LadyBug ALL DAY.
That cologne and perfume commercial was unsettling.
Different, right? hehe
@@DavesArchives nice dave.
Dave Your channel is the best! Your awesome!
As always your the best Dave!
You're the best!
@@DavesArchives you are dave.
Now you're doing 60 frame video! Welcome!
Oh yeah!!!
@@DavesArchives fine dave.
I wish it stayed the 1980’s forever.
Such a great collection of commercials! Also, the new introduction with the overview is excellent, great to get more insight on the tape and the programming they came from! Especially with local ads included.
Any plans for more Upstate NY sourced stuff in the near future? Love seeing that stuff, being from up here and such.
Makes me want to search yard sales and flea markets for old tapes. :D
Many thanks, carcrash! Good luck with the treasure hunting. Never gets old for me 😀
@@DavesArchives wow.
Shampoo commercials haven’t changed much, they could air that again in 2021 and no one would think anything of it
Agreed, even some of the hair styles which where then considered trending, and hip would be looked at as conservative, and for older ladies.
Oh.
Good afternoon Dave the Chevy Cavalier commercial was a 1984 commercial which aired in 1983 probably sometime in November
I’m for the commercial for the 1983 Pontiac 6000 STE but I only can find 1984,1985,1986 and 1987
I Had an 87 Cavalier in my senior year of high School 97 & it was a Cool little car
Hmmmm.
This is a bunch of fun Dave, your vids are getting better by the show:) So many of these vids (when new) made a person want to go get (it) The Godfathers add made me hungry, loved that pizza! So many great memories, thank you Dave!! I've said it before, you rock man!!
Remote control bonus,🤣. I was the remote back in the day lol. Where's the channel locks?
Fantastic!
My brother and I wanted an Atari even tho our friends up the street had one-I wanted it bc everyone was getting them, he wanted some fighting game. Somehow our older sister got involved-she was working in the school office so obvs thinks she’s a child expert😂-we wind up with an Odyssey😱😂 It looked sleeker but it wasn’t as kool, and we at first, could only get “educational games”😡 Our first game was a centipede that makes you spell words on the keyboard -if u get it right, he comes wiggling down and u can shoot his segments off as “fun”. When we opened the box and saw it, my brother barely age 6, literally said, “What the hell is this thing?!🤬”😂 Ahhhh the memories....💗
U always have the best retro stories!
@@DavesArchives 😂thanks...sadly, they’re true too😂😂😂 Still mad about that Atari 😂
@@DavesArchives good dave.
I believe that was Joanna Kerns (Growing Pains) in the Long John Silver's commercial.
You are doing the lords work and we love you for it. 🙏🏻
😀🙌
@@DavesArchives love 💘❤💕♥💖💗 dave.
Heck yeah, opening on ColecoVision, that was my first game console!
🎶Just for the taste of iiiiiiittttt, Diet Coke! 🎶
Ahhhhhh, the 80s 😁
Yup!!!
@@DavesArchives indeed dave.
You never disappoint; great new intro. Perfume ads from that era were quite unique- and anyone know the female singer's name doing a Patti Smythe of scandal imitation in the bud ad?
OMG! Church's chicken! 🥳
oh man all those addons for colecovision! heard they got in trouble for the atari one, not for nothing but definitely a novel idea for the time!!
I'm surprised Deal of the Century was only rated PG. It seems at least PG 13. I was a kindergartner when these came on and my family did have a Colecovision
PG 13 did not come out until 1984, I remember because I turned 13 in May 1984, and now... I will be 50 in May 2021!
@@cdldriver2348 I'll be 40 in July 2021, but even after the PG-13 rating came out a lot of movies where still rated PG, and R when they should have been PG-13 rated even going by mid 80's standards.
Wow.
5:27 man the Goonies music video was a lot weirder than I remember
Oh man! Godfather's Pizza was my favorite pizza!
I don't know "Deal of the Century," but that line "The enemy isn't Moscow, it's Northrup, Lockheed etc." makes more sense all the time.
You just have to replace Moscow (part of the time) with someone else the government and the arms dealers are trying to scare you with.
I was around 2 months old. ☺️
Chevrolet cavalier.... Hot garbage 🤣🤣🤣 man.... how we have progressed as a society is amazing.... Seeing all these commercials for real as a child of the 80's and then seeing them again 38 years later.... Good lord how cheese ball we were.... 😂😂😂😂😂
I remember a wino came into my grandfathers hospital room and drank half of his bottle of Cody Wild Musk before my grandfather woke up and about killed him!
I remember you could smell Church’s chicken from a good 2 blocks away & Godfathers 🍕 was, is, & always will be the best!!!
We used to have a Godfather's Pizza. Now I have to go to Myrtle Beach or Birmingham for Godfather's Pizza!
I just wanted to see what my parents were watching the year I was born.
Even commercial back then were very entertaining. I was trying to figure out what is it that was lost about commercials comparing those commercial then and now. Then commercials always had a jingle that stuck in head, or a happy crowd, they were funny and witty. Business of those years really advertised their products, whether they talk about a bank, a supermarket a department store etc. Today commercial are all about prescription drugs to treat heart problems, diabetes, obesity male Impotence; lawyers to get money, Medicare and Medicaid, Insurance. Every commercial block these days contain at least 2 or three of the items mentioned before, pay close attention and you will see what I am talking about. How long is it that you haven seen a commercial for example of Burger King or Wendy's; a department store Macy's or J.C Penney, clothing, toys??? The magic of those commercials was lost sadly and we are not getting it back.
Coty Wild Musk 😂 Was that Jill Schoelen from The Step-Father???
I like you doing the intro Dave! So, was the new Mortal Kombat movie any good?
Thanks, Oddreign! Hehe, let's just say the best thing about the movie was it's trailers. :D
@@DavesArchives Damn, I had higher hopes for it. 😅
@@DavesArchives thanks for the heads up, looks like I'll wait till it's on Hulu, Peacock, or PlutoTV.
@@DavesArchives yes.
What is the name of the song in the outro? I really like it!
Ads from 1983 (iconic commercials from 1983).
Wow.
I miss Church's Chicken.
Wow Church's was dirt cheap ....what a 2PC for 1.09 ? Lol
colecovision- so another device can play another companies games (that is read the competition????0 that is wild and certainly something that would never happen now.
What's the song in the intro that's what really matters
What's the name of your *Intro* song?
YAAAAH
all the right moves w Tom Cruise? i must of missed that one and how tf is it rated R?
Because there was no PG-13 rating at the time which did not come around till 84, and even then a lot of movies still got rated either PG, or R that really should have been PG-13, even by mid 80's standards.
True.
So die and go to Church? 02:30 👀
👍💚
Back when people minded there own business!!
ANAND GURUJI'S 1ST BIRTHDAY IN 1983
ANAND GURUJI'S 1ST BIRTHDAY IN 1983
Wow.
Lymon
Deal of a Century, must have been one terrible movie... Not only do I not remember it, I've to this day never heard of it!
Hahah, I found out about it a few years ago, and I'm a big Chevy fan too. It's pretty good, if you go in with low expectations lol
@@DavesArchives okay dave.
Is church's still around or kicked the bucket???
