Done! Sorry not much but hopefully it helps. Hope she has a better experience! I've never been put under but it sounds so scary. The dentist who messed up my bite (and made it so it hurt to bite down on anything too hard) when I was 17 was actively bragging to his assistant about a patient who had an ongoing lawsuit against him while they were working on me. He was so arrogant and confident he was going to win the case because the guy was like a gang member or something, and he was also bragging a lot about his skills. 🙄 Not a big deal as another dentist later corrected it (apparently it was a combination of the filling not being done correctly and also not being filed to fit properly into the opposite teeth) but yeah scary to know how often medical professionals really dissociate from the fact that patients are people. And then you hear a story like yours. Just wow. Glad you survived, and sorry you got roped into participating in it. 😮😮
Holy moley! I also woke up during wisdom tooth surgery, but they called it "twilight sleep" and also didn't code me. However, it was at least 2 weeks before I could handle something as solid as French onion soup. The dentist said, "Yeah, we kind of had to blow up your jaw." Lots of dental PTSD from growing up as well. So glad you learned the truth and had the opportunity to report them eventually! I hope Bean gets through surgery with flying colors.
Okay to give you context of HOW insane this kind of medical practice is- I’m a dentist with a fair share of sedation training and this story gave me chills because these are supposed to be ROUTINE procedures under IV SEDATION (conscious sedation is done in a clinic where you are given drugs to put you asleep enough to be comfortable and forget everything while *still being able to breathe on your own*). For the full medical context it sounds like the oral surgeon (who is allowed to be the provider for both anesthesia and the surgery they do have the training for it) would WAY oversedate (the milky stuff is propofol, which is very short acting so when the longer lasting stuff like midazolam/small amounts of fentanyl is used it’s used as like a maintenance drug and let me tell you it takes a LOT to drop someone down like that) and then frequently required you to get *succinylcholine* (a paralytic to intubate someone to restore their airway!) and have to resuscitate patients. I cannot drive home enough how NUTS that is for how EASY and ROUTINE wisdom tooth surgery SHOULD BE. Wisdom teeth are bread and butter for an average oral surgeon- most of them could get all four out in like 30 min tops. It does not take a lot to make someone comfortably and safely sedated and once you also numb the area they shouldn’t be woken up by what you’re doing. It is, and SHOULD BE, very very rare to have a medical emergency like what you described and the fact that it was the norm for him makes me really happy you reported him to the board. I’m sorry you had to experience it as a patient and experience it in a working environment. Thanks for calling attention to that go fund me, I hope Beanie’s dental treatment goes smoothly and comfortably and I’ll be rooting for her!
This is such a crazy story. Part of me is thinking, "There's no way someone could do that," and the rest of me knows that I live in the US where the healthcare system is very broken. That sounds like a terrifying situation. I'm glad you came out of it alright
What the what? Jeeze, I can't imagine the lawsuits that facility needs to recieve. When i got my wisdom teeth yoinked, I never went fully under just a bunch of laughing gas and novocaine. Fun ish fact: my orthodontist talked about his boat.
Good for him having a boat! Yeah honestly anesthesia is terrifying and requires a lot of specialized skills and knowledge. Going without sounds like way less drama
What the actual shit? That's so messed up. I've had a LOT of dental stuff done and hearing what happened to use I'm so glad I just had sedation and wasn't actually put under. So glad you called out the guy and also good luck to your friend ❤️
when it comes to the covering up of coding specifically, my ex that i lived with him and his family for 6 yrs, his sister had cerebral palsy and they (the parents) didn't know until she was maybe 15 that when she was born and swooped off afterwards, that she had coded twice before being returned and no one even mentioned that it was it her records until they tried getting support for her 15 years later
it's scary how much more easily i could imagine it happening, a baby has no advocate in those most precious moments, the parents are both so disposed already and of course, one would hope that they have their trust in the best place at that moment, but it really is scary that sometimes that isn't the case, in fact, i feel that the way that a lot of people are trained in medical school you really have to have so much hope, because so many are trained that it saves lives to look at people through a lens of snap judgement, which is studied and know to basically lead to dehumanization of patients, it's sad that it surprises me more that anyone spent the time to notate it at all if it could come back to bite the person who made note of it
This is so distressing!! I mean, I can watch it and I'm fine, but as someone who had severe dental needs (I bashed about 5 of my front teeth and needed them reconstructed and I had a severe wisdom teeth experience too--no where near yours, thank goodness but still a bit worrying). This is all so scary to think that they hid this, and the malpractice involved!!!!
thank you for sharing, I'm so sorry you went through this but thank you for using this for a good cause I'm not really ready to talk about my questionable surgery experience
I dealt with a lot of neglect as a kid, which meant that my parents never really brought to a dentist aside from when I was about 5 years old (dental care is free where I live 18 and under, so there was no excuse). But because of this, when I moved out at 16, I tried to get help for my teeth as soon as possible. I ended up going to a childrens dentist where they put me under laughing gas, and this was around the time that I was going through my edgy psychedelic teenage phase. I remember thinking to myself "I wonder what will happen if I stop breathing and just purely breathe into the gas?" The best way to describe what happened next was essentially ego death. All that existed of me was my eyeballs and my teeth, and I was in a completely black void. In the void there was an oval shaped opening where I could see my dentist using the drill in my mouth, humming and spinning around the oval opening. It felt like I was there for an eternity. I was zapped awake after they removed the laughing gas. Only a few seconds had passed and the dentist very sternly told me "you have to keep breathing through your mouth!!" Lol.
I died on the table, too, when I was two weeks old. I had been crying before the surgery and the nurse told my mom she could feed me to calm me down. Anesthesia + hypermobility + a full stomach means aspirating. The doctor (who my mom worked for) didn't tell her for a few years and she didn't tell me until I was in my 20s.
Idk US uses so much General anaesthesia for everything. I had 4 wisdom teeth fully developed and blocked, they where pushing under my 7 and I was in pain for a long time (im pretty sure i got some nerve damage because of this). I had 4 surgeries to extract them, the upper ones where so brutal, I cried the whole time and was shaking but overall it was pretty quick. No GA needed, just a local one, specially for the lower ones bc they took like 3 min and I barely felt anything. I get that a child is a different case but maybe just sedatives would be sufficient without literally risking someones life and/or brain damage 😥 Also are you planning on suing? and does the doctor still have a license? I hope the surgery for the kiddo goes smoothly 💚
I drove by and the sign was gone? But that's the most I've looked into it lol I filed a report to the medical board and moved on to the best of my ability 🫣
Australian here. okay so, when i was doing my medical placements (I was training to become an AIN - Assistant in Nursing), the first place I got sent to was.... Bad. It was a nursing home and the nurses i worked with sucked. They told me, day one, which residents (thats what we call people living in a nursing home) were 'problematic' or 'difficult to work with'. Guess what those people never were? Problematic or difficult to work with. Just by sitting down and actually talking to and listening to them, everything that would have become an incident if one of the staff was "dealing with" (heavy quotes on that🙄) just... worked out fine. Turns out listening to people and acting on their worries/concerns/quuestions/etc solves most fucking problems! Who woulda guessed! Now, thats just the general neglect that happened at this place. One of the things that made me write in a formal complaint was how they (the employees, nurses, workplace culture) just accepted reeeeeeally dangerous shit as normal practice. Like, they could have easily killed this woman. Some context: When people get older, they tend to get more medical conditions. One of the big ones we are taught about is Dysphagia; which is medical term to discribe difficulty in swallowing. When assisting someone with Dysphagia in eating, we feed them at a slow pace so they won't choke. On first glance it way seem like an 'eh' kinda disorder, but if they're fed wrong it can, and has, lead to death. What the staff here did was feed everyone as fast as possible (almost like they hated interacting with the residents they are paid to look after. Hmmm), incuding the residents with Dysphagia, leading to those people having coughing fits. This was treated as normal. Whenever me or the other student-in-training fed these people, though, none of them ever coughed or choked, which really fucking displays the malpractice and neglect this facility had engrained into its culture. As a 'fun' little bonus; they also never described the world to the blind woman there. Like, this lady wanted to go out and see things, but none of the nurses or assistances ever bothered to talk to her and desribe her surroundings to her. Which is fucked up. I think I was the first person to ever do that for her, which still makes me tear up even now. I hope the place closes down, and I also really hope that woman with Dysphagia who I fed hasn't been killed by the staff there. I also never got a reply to my formal complaint I sent them - if there was any doubt about their fucked this place was and still is if it's still running. Long post, but I hope this gives some insight into what happens in other medical situations/places. Extra extra bonus!!!! One of the nurses sexually harassed one of the tradesmen working on-site and laughed about it as she recounted the story to me. Was shocked that she got reprimanded for sexually harassing him at work. It's like literally everyone who worked there was fucked up in some way or another
Everyone I know who's worked in medicine has a chop shop horror story like this. It's way too common! I can't believe no one took the blind woman out for a walk and described things to her! I would love it if that were my job it sounds downright pleasant!
@@MiahGrace ikr!! and because she didn't want to go out (understandable, because no one would describe the scenery for her) they just labeled her as someone doesn't go out, and to not really bother asking her anymore. It was an outing to a botanical garden too.
I work in a disability residence. Most of the staff are lack empathy and basic listening/respect skills to actually take care of our residents' needs. It's really fucked up there, but that's why I only work per diem on breaks from college. All disability service homes are like this. They staff bad people who like the power trip they have over the residents, and no matter what you report, nothing happens.
I had something like that happened to me wakeing up while I was getting my wisdom teeth removed. same doctor told me that allergies can't run in the family and tried to prescribed me medications i am allergic to. Tbh wanna know if it was the same guy
Mostly they were nice? Very dark senses of humor, and most of them had only ever worked there, or had been there for a long time. The weirdest thing about the staff is that he only hired attractive women.
- How come they didn’t tape your eyes shut tho-WTF, I’m so sorry you went through this. They do not cuff you down when you’re having surgery.. He’s irresponsible. - I would have took “ the fun ones “ so that I could report his ass also! I’m so happy that you reported him! This Dr keeping ppl “ just barely there” is such a crime! They should have enough medication to keep them asleep! People shouldn’t be waking up during surgery regularly! You also shouldn’t be in a surgical room without education, especially CPR! You’re also not going to be able to resuscitate everyone he’s playing with fire. They didn’t give you a reason for firing you ? Thats wild. I’m happy you’re alive and well to tell your story!
You should sue them. You survived, but they could have killed you or permanently damaged your heart / other organs (which you might not realize for decades). Even if you don’t want to for you, large numbers of malpractice suits can help put places like that put of business by making the state take these claims seriously through documentation.
This has happened to me three times! I’ve never found anyone else with a similar story. The internet always just says that it’s very rare for people to wake up during anesthesia. The first time, it was emergency surgery and when I opened my eyes on the table the doctor said “we almost lost you!” But later she denied everything. The second time, I woke up alone in the room with my chest incision still open, and like ten scissors clips hanging from my flesh. And I sat up… and the tumor was in a cup of formaldehyde on a table beside me, so I picked it up with my fingers and started playing with it, stroking the tendrils. Then someone came in and freaked out. She had to wrestle the tumor outta my hands because I was yelling “it’s MINE!” And then she screamed for help. She explained to me that I was still cut open so I needed to lay down or else some of my organs might fall out… and then more people came in and they debated whether to give me more anesthesia. And I calmed down and told them it’s ok, I’m sorry, don’t worry, I’ll go back to sleep. So then I did. Long comment, sorry. Nobody ever believes me! My family doctor afterward insisted that it didn’t happen because there was “no note in the records” about it. Next time I needed surgery, I warned the anesthesiologist “I will wake up” and he rolled his eyes and told me “no you won’t” and nothing I said would convince him. He checked my records, but obviously both previous times when I woke up the doctors falsified the records and failed to mention my wakefulness. So when I woke up AGAIN the anesthesiologist wasn’t there to help my doctors and nurses. They were all panicked, but I was calm cuz I was used to it by then. I reassured them and we waited calmly. They kept asking if I was ok and I said “I’m high as a kite but I’m not in pain!” The nurse had to go to the cafeteria to get the anesthesiologist because he was on his lunch break. And when he came back, he said he was afraid to give me more of the anesthesia because he had already given me more than usual. So then he just gave me a sedative to keep me calm and he sat beside me while they finished the surgery, and I was awake for the rest of it. But guess what?!! Later, my regular doctor AGAIN told me that’s impossible. “I don’t see any notes about that in your records. It didn’t happen. You must have been dreaming.” So for years, I often look this topic up online but I have never before found anyone else who’s been through this. Until you. So thank you very much sharing your story in this video! ❤️
I forgot - there was a fourth time too, but like I said, I was used to it by then. So that time was less eventful. But apparently I always wake up during anesthesia but it’s so rare that nobody ever believes me. And I think it’s pretty messed up they never put any notes in my surgery record about it. They’re always clearly upset by what’s happening, so it’s interesting that they keep it off the record. Obviously it’s not their fault, cuz it happens to me every time. But all of the surgeries were in the same small town, and the same medical group. So maybe that’s just their SOP, to keep all controversial stuff off the record
Yeah this didn't happen. Lol they don't leave you alone when you're in surgery. No one can just leave you open without monitoring. You'd be dead because you are vented during general anesthesia. You're also tied down.
When people who actually wake up from anesthesia wake up they scream and are incoherent and unable to do any of the things you just mentioned. They can die from shock so will be put back under immediately. Teeth are a little different since they don't use general anesthesia for it. You are in twilight and it's much easier to wake up.
@@Fizzypopization they never tied me up for surgery that’s ridiculous. There were a couple belts to keep me on the bed and that’s all. I probably wasn’t alone in the room, the nurse came from behind my head so maybe she was doing something there. Almost every time that I share any factual information about myself online, somebody comments “that didn’t happen” or “you’re lying” or “that’s fake” and at this point, all I can do is feel sorry for them. Their lives must be so boring, because they can’t even believe anything interesting ever happens to anyone else. If you think I’m lying about this little insignificant thing then you should probably block me because my life has been maddeningly interesting and far more incredible things than this have happened to me.
wow. that practice needs to be shut down and you may need to have a talk with a lawyer, but not as a victim... just cover your ass. This is a great story and you are a fantastic storyteller, but this is the kind of video that on the wrong hands can get you into hot water.
Thanks for putting eyes on this!

Even if you don’t want to for you, large numbers of malpractice suits can help put places like that put of business by making the state take these claims seriously through documentation.
Glad I watched this a few days after getting my wisdom teeth removed and not before... xD
I hope you're healing up well!
@@MiahGrace Thank you! So far so good :)
Please tell me this place isn't in business anymore? Also did you tell your parents what you found out? I need to know
Last time I drove by the sign wad gone, and my dad was appalled when I told him XD understandably so
This has happened to me three times!
They kept asking if I was ok and I said “I’m high as a kite but I’m not in pain!”
The nurse had to go to the cafeteria to get the anesthesiologist because he was on his lunch break.
You must have been dreaming.”
So for years, I often look this topic up online but I have never before found anyone else who’s been through this.
Damn, I’d take some of the fun ones
XD
Aw man! I wanted to watch this but the audio is SO quiet, I turned up the TV and still can't hear you.
It worked fine one my phone!
That's good to know, I'll do some sleuthing and see what I can do 🫡
I agree. I had to turn volume to the max (watching on a laptop)

I'M SORRY BUT THIS STORY WAS BONECHILLING
wow. that practice needs to be shut down and you may need to have a talk with a lawyer, but not as a victim... just cover your ass. This is a great story and you are a fantastic storyteller, but this is the kind of video that on the wrong hands can get you into hot water.
